I'm not a huge fan of this version - I'm not saying it's terrible and supposed to sound exactly like the original, - but just thought I'd throw my opinion out there. Wolf Parade has so much more passion and pain in their voices, I just find it so much more relateable. But if I wasn't comparing this version to anything, I'd have to say it's a pretty good sounding song. :)
This is a fun cover, but even if spencer krug's version was a cover of this, I'd like his more. Yes, krug does sound like he's always in pain, but that's his thing and it works. I would argue the guy form her space holiday just thought this would be an ironic song to cover, given how cutesy his interpretation is, and how it showcases the lyrics, as opposed to wolf parade and sunrub, where the lyrics are there more to augment the music, or at least break even with it.
They both are very good songs, but i believe this one is so much better, the other one you can hardly hear the words, this music compliments the lyrics.
I'm glad he tried to something different from the original... And I'm being gentle because I *love* Her Space Holiday... But Wolf Parade is so much better.
I wanted to like this. But this is way weak compared to Wolf Parade. Instrumentally, delivery-wise. It loses a lot of the meaning, grittiness, and urgency of the original I guess it's geared more toward kids?
@evolvedance Grittiness? This thing is grittier then a half paved road in Paterson. Not really, but id say more gritty then the orignal. The quotes in the beginning and the end might have more meaning to you if you watched the documentary "streetwise" i think it was. Its in my favorites list. But yeah anyway... this song definitely gives me a different feeling in my stomach then the original, i like them both. The original seems a big production while this seems so simple. my2cents
I think my reading of this song's lyrics is a pretty reasonable one. My interpretation is, however, irrelevant because I also don't feel that this cover contributes a lot to the original Wolf Parade song.
I think this version doesn't really capture the spirit or meaning of the original song.
The original song is, as per my reading of it, a plea to an alcoholic lover to quit his or her self-destructive habits. Their upbeat and happy rendition, I think, misses the point.
you have to know what the original song means that what makes the original great, because the guys voice sounds like he's in pain from what happening to him.
I love Wolf Parade but their rendition of this song doesn't do it nearly the justice it deserves. Their lyrics are slurred and their tune meanders. Just listen to the way the music punctuates the words in this version, as opposed to the original. It's much nicer.
I don't think something from 2005 can qualify as a "classic"
I like a lot of car commercial music. Did you know The Unicorns' "I was Born A Unicorn" was once featured in a Fisher Price commercial? Doesn't make the song any less good.

Wolf Parade's version is a cover. The original was done by Spencer Krug's other band Sunset Rubdown.

I still like the Wolf Parade version miles better. This lacks the desperation, passion, and sheer epic nature of it.

You might hear the lyrics better but Wolf Parade manages to emote much more with their version. The original is incredibly powerful.

@Indieexploration no, it's the twee-ification of a powerful, meaningful rock classic. this sounds like it could be in a car commercial.

It's good, but it lost the quirky-ness that wolf parade is known for... Wolf Parade wins in my mind.
