I like Morgan, and i am playing a game with the Morganites as i am typing this but i feel i need to stress out that Morgan is underpowered.Anything Morgan can do the other factions can do better and it pisses me off.

AND yes the other factions can use free market also for the exact same energy bonus(+1 energy each base +1energy each square)+3 Econ just gives +1 commerce. All the other factions have their bonuses, but Morgan has NOTHING. Even worse he has -1 SUPPORT and NO PLANNED ECONOMICS.

@NlmDth Morgan is the builder, he accumulates wealth faster than the others. I have a game as him now and I am dominating in every field. I am making close to 400 a turn. Clean reactors are the key to a Morgan game and so are support units.

@mrhnm You know Morgan is not as bad as i though but most certainly not because he is supposed to use units with clean reactors.I played using Police State, green and knowledge.I did not waste my tech to research the clean reactor(and even if i had clean reactor, the units would cost extra minerals).I changed my opinion about morgan, he's faction is very powerful but only if he's using police state.Using clean reactors sounds good in theory but in practice its very hard to produce enough units

He's extremely powerful in peacetime, though. Lots of money means lots of tech. Even if not, he can use the money to purchase techs. When me and my bro play SMAC, he takes Zakharov and I take Morgan. He fuels my tech tree, I finance his armies and such.

There are other notable social engeneering choices Morgan can do. Police state+Free market, and what do you get ? +3 econ (identical to 2 econ) 1 support and -3 police -2 effic.Its bad, realy bad.

Most importantly you can't do the Police state+children's creche+planned econ,because you can't use planned.

He would have been a force to be reckoned with if he could get to +4 economy without the -2 morale, but he can't so that sucks .

Morgan does not have any tangible edge in this game.His -1 support is horrible,you can barely support your formers.His Economy is nice but again there are no realistic social engeneering options.Option 1 Politics:frontier Economics:free market =>3 economy.3 economy=2 economy, you need +4 econ to get +2 energy each base, so to get to +4 you need Values: Wealth .So aside from not having support you get -2 morale also.And any other faction can go Free market and get +2 econ.+2=+3 with no -1support

The University are crap compared to Morgan.

With Morgan's Economy and Commerce boost, you earn far far more income than the University can, and because science is based on your energy income, Morgan when played correctly can easily out tech the university.

Network Nodes are also very easy to rush buy with the amount of cash that Morgan makes.

@flyinggeng Personally, I prefer Roze. Super-probe teams plus free techs is just win. If you can snag the Telepathic Matrix, it functionally duplicates the Planetary Datalinks, earlier than that is available, letting you focus your research on specifics much earlier than usual.

I almost always play Peackeepers. Morgan and Zakharov were always cool with me whenever I played. Yang hated my guts (as to be expected), and Deirdre, Santiago were either or.

There was a constant. If I was playing as Morgan, the green hippies would always jump on me first chance they got. Normally they even did it before Miriam had a chance to do it. Lal was always at my side.

Playing as the Peacekeepers, Yang would be at my throat with Miriam. Morgan would be at my side.

Man, I don't remember the last time Morgan actually declared war on me (then again, I rarely play as Yang or Deirdre). He was pretty cool.

Morgan is awesome. I Build up around 12 cities, surround them with forests and boreholes, put Merchant Exchange + Longevity Vaccine in the same city, and corner the energy market like halfway or less through the tech tree :p

In most of my playthoughs it is rare for the Mogans to go to war with the Peacekeepers since both sides support a democratic society. It makes more sense if he is fighting the Gaians.

@tcmitton Civ's AI gives most modern games a run for their money. And the way it handles diplomacy is exemplary.. Too bad they didnt make another one after the original (the expansion was slightly disappointing). Possibly one of the 3 greatest turn based strategy games of all time.

@StormAngel13 Most AI is actually very good, but just can't compete when it comes to human intelligence.

Usually designers let the computer cheat a bit, as was the case in Civ, to make up for it.

However, modern gaming AIs do a respectable job. For example, in Half Life 2, enemy soldiers practice numerous squad level tactics that make them very effective soldiers (though no match for the player's superior firepower and health).
