aaahhhhhhh damn i could remember all of the scenes in each part of this music. from escorting of pirnce sancho to the rescue of prince alfonso. ^_^ sorry if i spelled the names wrong but yeah thats the pasrt ai remembered and not to mension ben yusefs entry to valencia and im barely through the whole music.

@NapoleonCalland: I know but the opening speech is just a good line is all ,some good acting on ben Yusuf's part as he was a very convincing villain in this film. There should however only be peace between Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus.

On the 2 disc special edition of El Cid there is cool feature of Miklos Rozsa. An example Rozsa was not completely happy over the way the studio edited his music in El Cid or how he had to share billing with another composer when it was released only in Italy. Just an aside the disc reprises that Heston and Loren disliked each other immensely. Great epic moviemaking and great music.

one of my favourites movies ever!

But El Cid didn't used to be that hero shown in this film.

Nevertheless: i'm missing that kind of movies nowadays.

And the music is fantastic!!!

@UncleOlly no? You know a lot about Spanish medieval history, I guess... But El Cid is a great hero of the Reconquista, respected by christians and muslims, not a mythical ones like king arthur and his knights...

You're right, Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar is the greatest spanish hero but he fought also for money and fame. Have u ever been to the Alhambra / Granada? Fantastic building that will give u a very good and intensiv feeling of how life used to be in the middelage.

Sophia Laren was misscast in this film and was horrible. The rest of the excellent cast kept the movie together and prevented it from bombing. I always hoped I would meet Heston some day to ask him about this theory.

@happytrailstoyou999 Sophia Loren will always be beautiful as Chimene. Her portrayal as Dona Chimene is convincing both when she opposed Roderigo after he dueled with, and killed, her father, and when her Love for Roderigo finally overcame all hatreds and emnities.

Tremendous score typical of Mr. Rozsa. Who can forget Ben Hur; King of Kings; and of course, El Mio Cid
