Apart from this being BS, I must add that cavalry formations, when properly used, were highly effective even in WW2. Soviet Cavalry corps, when well supported, were awesome fighting forces. But they acted as MOBILE infantry, and when well supported, the German lines could rarely hold such an attack on a tactical scale. Whether the offensive was successful depended on the overall operational outcome, but these formations were powerful and very cost effective.
How many horse's needed to be killed after being injured making this film ? Many must have broken legs tripping in holes dug then covered over to hide the fact they were there. During the battle, as the polish are in retreat the horse's are falling from cannon fire but watching that part one can see the ground for no reason disappear as it is being run over.

this is a never ending debate. both sides share some truth. the poles did not attack the tanks, there was an infantry division from the germans crossing a forest and the polish cavalry saw an opportunity to attack there. german communications were good and requested support from the tanks.
the tanks arrived and so the cavalry had to gallop between the tanks in evasive maneuvres, this gave the impression that they were attacking. the tanks ran them over, that doesnt mean horses charged thetanks

Guderian was not a disinterested observer. Germany wanted to discourage the use of cavalry vs. their infantry. Cavalry have 3 to 1 mobility advantage over infantry. Germans and Soviets both used Cossack cavalry units with some success.

Germans didn`t have this kind of heavy tanks in september `39. They only had Panther 1 with two machinguns and other version with very small canon. First Tiger tank appeared in `40-`41.

German tanks were not this advanced in 1939, one of these t-34's would have been a nightmare in 1939. They were a very unpleasant surprize in late 1940. The Polish 7TP was better armed than the Pkw1's, 2's, and 3's. at that time. If it had thicker armour it would have ruled.

Then the Germans brought up some heavy armored cars for back up and those armored cars attacked the engaged polish cavalry and killed their commander. This forced the cavalry to retreat.

The Polish cavalry flanked the tanks and demobilized a number of them with explosives, but of course at the end they lost.

Apart from this being BS, I must add that cavalry formations, when properly used, were highly effective even in WW2. Soviet Cavalry corps, when well supported, were awesome fighting forces. But they acted as MOBILE infantry, and when well supported, the German lines could rarely hold such an attack on a tactical scale. Whether the offensive was successful depended on the overall operational outcome, but these formations were powerful and very cost effective.

How many horse's needed to be killed after being injured making this film ? Many must have broken legs tripping in holes dug then covered over to hide the fact they were there. Quite the contrary, although their homeland was overwhelmed by two invading forces, the Poles who weren't taken prisoner proved themselves to be rather skilled fighters, especially the airmen stationed out of Britain.

this is a never ending debate. both sides share some truth. the poles did not attack the tanks, there was an infantry division from the germans crossing a forest and the polish cavalry saw an opportunity to attack there. german communications were good and requested support from the tanks.
the tanks arrived and so the cavalry had to gallop between the tanks in evasive maneuvres, this gave the impression that they were attacking. the tanks ran them over, that doesnt mean horses charged thetanks

Guderian was not a disinterested observer. Germany wanted to discourage the use of cavalry vs. their infantry. Cavalry have 3 to 1 mobility advantage over infantry. Germans and Soviets both used Cossack cavalry units with some success.

Germans didn`t have this kind of heavy tanks in september `39. They only had Panther 1 with two machinguns and other version with very small canon. First Tiger tank appeared in `40-`41.
Cavalry charge is only Geobbels propaganda and later after war communist did the same in crappy movies.

There were no heavy tanks in 39` as it is in this movie and it wasn`t cavalry charge on this heavy tanks. Simply it wern`t this heavy tanks. PzKpfw VI Tiger tanks were produced and used between 1942`-45`

German tanks were not this advanced in 1939, one of these t-34's would have been a nightmare in 1939. They were a very unpleasant surprize in late 1940. The Polish 7TP was better armed than the Pkw1's, 2's, and 3's. at that time. If it had thicker armour it would have ruled.

It's a fact that the Polish Horsemen charged infantry and artillery where they could, But it was inevitable that they'd run into panzers from time to time. Sure, The Polish cavalry turned tail and fled, what else could they do? But to say Polish cavalry never fought panzers is inaccurate.

This never actually happened, of course, poles were brave but not stupid. The cavalry never actually fought on horses, or used sabers and spears. They fought as mounted infantry and fought on foot, and used AT weapons against the panzers. Still, this film is great, and superbly shot!

@cadoc07 It`s never hapenned. 1.In 1939, 10% of the Polish army was made up of cavalry units. 2. Polish cavalary used anti tank rifles "UR" but also light artillery such as the highly effective Bofors 37 mm anti-tank gun. 3. Poles has also 7TP, Renault R35 and Vickers E tanks ... and TKS tankettes. 4. On 1 September 1939 in Battle of Mokra - Polish Volhynian Cavalry Brigade beat the German 1st Panzer Division and 4th Panzer Division.

A very famous Andrzej Wajda film-libel made in the 70-ties according to a novel of Wojciech Zukrowski,a communist writer.After 1980 Wajda changed his front and became an"democratic oppositioner".Wajda showed Polish cavalry charging tanks with sabres and lances.In fact he is a nazi and soviet propagandist because he showed facthat never exist but was bilboarded by Nazi and Soviets to show Poles as a mad nation.

@sliwatwojszef It's a polish movie, what can you expect? But! Surprisingly, The Germans did manufacture and convert T-34's themselves. This however was after the invasion of the soviet union.

The point is, that in 1939 (it is the time that this film shows) there were NO T-34.
Other thing is that pitiful and hillarious hiting tanks with sabres.
Poland that time had best in the world anti-tank rifles. And cavalry used them.
This film is comunist propaganda and nonsens.
