Go to mraksscannersDOTcom and go through the "Easier To Read Pro 97 Manual". It has lots of "how to" and the pro 97 and Pro 164 do channels banks and tags the same way. Most of the programming that scanner comes with is useless, so try radioreferenceDOTcom for freq tables for your area.

I need someone's help, please... I have figured out how to program trunked frequencies into my scanner, but when I have it scanning all of my other programmed frequencies in the same bank with the trunked LTR id frequencies, the scanner seems to never pick up any of my trunked frequencies. It skips over them when I have my other scanner right near it picking up the LTR signal just fine. Only that scanner is stopped on that channel, not scanning. Do I have to open/close the bank or something? T.Y

Hello, I have the same thing, could you help me program a trunked frequency. I am trying to program an LTR ID of 05-05-61. It's Windsor CT Police. I know it isn't digital and I live close to the station, so I don't think reception is a problem. The directions are pretty hard to follow and radio shack employees know less about the thing than I do. I have learned so far that you press, PROG, T, then select the mode which is LTR. I type in the code and press enter. Am I doing it right? Thanks :)

The operator is making a mistake by having the Global Attenuation and channel attenuation on. This is indicated by the Lettrs G and A on the top line of the LCD display. The G can be turn off by hitting FUNC then ATT and for each channel attenuation can be turned on and off by simply hitting the ATT key when the scanners is paused on that channel.

if you do manage to lock out something accidently and dont know how to get it back.. try pressing manual then punch in the 3 digit # that the channel is under then press manual, program and then trunk.. it should show all the talk group ids and if the letters "lo" are upper case then just hit the "Lout" butten this is basically the same set up as my grecom psr 300c

Quick question, i just got the pro-162, it says 9 volt a/c adapter required with 300Ma required, the psp is 5-6 volts, but it powers you up ok i see, will it charge batterys too if you had rechargeables? Thanks for the good video.

No digital on this scanner. The range will depend on where you are at and the weather conditions. High overcast is best for listening.

yeah you can fine tune into a specific frequency, or you can have the freq set as a channel, like lets say 20. you press man > 20 > man and your locked onto channel 20 which is what you set it as

@shorttman1968 Yes. If you hold the NOAA weather button down (and assuming you have the freq programmed) you can hear your local SKYWARN team. Any and all sever weather alarms go off on this thing no matter what you're doing; scanning, signal stalk, etc. The alarm is loud! I use the Handheld CB radio for the weather stuff mostly.

I got mine today I programed all our Sheriff's,Police,EMS and Fire and Georgia State Patrol and it came with the city that I bought it froms frequencies but I locked those that way I can just listen to our towns but I really like this thing and the battery life is amazing.

Hey I have had mine for about a week now but I borrowed my cousins PSP charger but it's a 5 volt and it won't charge my Pro 164 and I guess its dyeing now because it shuts off and the speaker kinda makes a noise and shuts off so I guess I'll have to get a 9 volt charger.

Press the 0 and 1 keys while in scan mode. That should unlock the banks.

I don't use a telescoping antenna anymore. I have a magnetic mobile mounted antenna (fancy for external antenna). I rarely take it out of my car.

I live in Kzoo now. I need the PRO-106 for the digital encrypted signals the police use. This one though, I use for the airport, railroads and FD. Still working some bugs with it but I'll get the hang of it.

I read a few stories of people having problems with this scanner not receiving and hard to program without the need of a computer. But other then that, its a pretty good scanner, I want to get the 163 which is the same thing but a base scanner.

I have wrote about this same scanner under another youtubes name I'm not having the great luck that others are having I HATE my pro 164 its static sounding alot of times .I should have taken it back when i got it maybe its just a bad one from the box. I used software to program mine ARC300 the software will download what you want then you upload the feqs and code to the scanner.

Trunktracking allows for several different agencies to use a single pool of frequencies. They use talkgroups so one can determine who is transmiting. This is an efficient way for agencies such as police, fire/ems, etc to talk together.

i have this scanner and i am trying to pick up NYC i live about 30 miles north of the NYC. i have a deluxe antenna a telescoping antenna which you have and i even tried the base antenna that sticks out your window. Its very odd sometimes i get it sometimes i dont. Any ideas??? thanks alot and nice video

well good luck trying...lol. i live in brooklyn NY, and can't pick up some nypd frequencies like the 100-101 pct, or the 26-30 pct. i have a pro-97 with a moblie magnet antenna and the center whip antenna and can pick up transmission but theirs too much static.

Anyway i've heard people say they have picked up NYPD in PA & NJ. i believe you can pick it up if you live in westchester.

but when i went to NJ i only picked up SOD,HWY,CW1 & CW2.

if you live in the UK, it is able for you to listen to police but you have to be a ham radio operator and be able to program tetra into a Radio not a scanner.

The G is a global anttenature. The A is an attenature meaning it filters out weak signals

the rechargable batteries are only known to blow up if you charge them in the BLACK battery pack. Always use the yellow battery pack to charge rechargables.

I've heard/seen it the other way. The black battery pack doesn't have the third connection point for incoming current so nothing can be charged in it.

I actually have this scanner and it's a pretty good scanner. It's been pretty useful for both conventional and trunking use. No matter if it is to track railroads or to track weather, it's very dependable. I have a leather casing for the scanner and it looks good. Hope you like that scanner.

Push the number buttons.  Button 1=bank 1, button 0=bank 0. By default, it will scan banks zero and one. Give that a try and see what happends.
