I have a Dodge Avenger SXT my only major complaint is it has rear drum brakes. That is bad for a 2008 model car. Dodge should be ashamed of that! This car is not a sports car its a family car. I have had no problems with the car. It does get really good gas mileage about 33 mpg. If you drive it normally. Dodge doesnt offer any upgrades for the car and that is sad. Dodge made a car that cant avenge anything because they want to sell chargers and the new challengers.
Honestly yes, I have a 2008 Avenger. I wish Dodge never made the 4 Geared Transmission but I got it because of the Motor. the 2.4L VVT DOHC. Ii should put out more than 173 HP but the Transmission restricts everything. Gas is good, in my opinion.
I just rented this same car today, and I actually don't mind it. My daily driver is a 2004 Honda Accord coupe. Also have a 1964 Chevy Impala SS It can't compare to my Honda or my Impala, I love my Honda, but this little avenger is fun! :)

Got this car as a rental and I must say, "WHAT A COMPLETE PEICE OF GARBAGE" this car is. Sorry to say for the Avenger lovers out there, if you think this is a nice car you obviously dont know much about cars and you surely dont know what your missing. A 2010 with a 4 speed auto transmission is absurd - no manufacture in this segment uses 4-speeds anymore - that's so ten years ago (hence the suck ass gas mileage)...slow, frankenstien looks, poor handling, poor quality inside and out =1 sad car.
I have a Dodge Avenger SXT just like yours. I wouldn't call it a "poor man's charger." I prefer the Avenger over the charger because I want front wheel drive plus I think it looks better.
