I think that has to be one of the most moving speeches i've ever heard. And not much to my surprise, was it delivered by the lovely Meryl Streep herself. She, truly, is the best role model the world could ask for. Thank you Meryl, I now feel completely compelled to do something about this horrible mistreating. Even though my voice may not fully be heard at 15, i'm sure my voice can be added to the many others to make a difference.......and a louder voice..... :)
This is beautiful. The rights of women -everywhere- are important, and I'm very, very glad that these women's have understanding husbands who let them have a little off time from house chores to pursue their hobbies.
@scraz51 Yep they sure do, and guess what - your not one of the people whom matter. And I brought this computer - it is mine, the internet I use I pay for and is mine. I don't need a man.
Your not a man though - and no I don't, your not that stupid that you can't recall where you put your own milk and cereal and bowls... oh no wait you are... starve then.
@scraz51 it's so small there is nothing to suck, like your brain is so small it can only come out with these comebacks. I don't care what you prefer, and your dick will end up in the only place it'll do any good - some stray cats chew toy.
While I give her kudos, and I myself despise the Taliban's treatment of women, I think she doesn't understand the cultural disconnect. With life so difficult over there, there's little more to barter with than human chattel. It's a sad truth
@QuartuvLarry I think she is well educated to understand different cultures...you have to start somewhere to make sustainable and equitable change. You can't just turn your back and say "well that's the way it is, what can we do?" and leave.
@EmmaLoveJen The only practical reason I see for us to be over there is to prevent the Taliban from taking over. Because if Afghanistan falls to them, Pakistan will follow suit within 4 short years. NUCLEAR Pakistan.
The bigoted domestic misogyny isn't reason enough for us to be there.
Women need to take responsibilty for our actions as well. When we raise our sons and daughters we need to be conscious of the society that trains us to be inside the patriarch box.
Few people understand what empathy is ... a few Tibetan Buddhists, maybe? The desire for Empathy is mocked as wanting Sympathy in the world today. Three decades of conservativism and exodous of third world migration West has sent hard won progress of Western women reeling back to the pre-Wollstonecraft era. Women are regarded as nothing more than fashion/sex objects today. Its no surprise no more Empathy for women in Afganistan exists than there was for Tibetans during the rape of Tibet.
I get more that my fair share of reality in everyday life thank you, and mock shamelessly, those coming from the most sexist parts of the world HERE to impose their unempathetic SELFISHNESS on ours. We try, at least, in spite of billions of women with utterly no self esteem who come boasting about how much more impoverished they are and therefore how much more "grateful" and "worthy," "hardworking," and willing they are to sell themselves, to sell ALL women short of liberty. THAT is sad.
I agree 100% we women must work together in freeing these women of Afghanistan they are suffering every day all day. they don't have a way out. We must use our resources, money, our voices and our strength, and ban together for our sisters in Afghanistan. They are silently screaming for freedom we must listen to them. And do something.
The Black man had the vote nearly a half century before women. It would have been longer but for a hunger strike ... Women remain Chattle. The defeat of Hillary, who was clearly the better qualified candiate, relives the bitter struggle of women in this country. AT this point I belive that the best way to inhibit men is to not birth thier children. It is the only power left to us. BUT they will employ asian women who are so worthle3ss and empty of self esteem they will screw anybody.
this woman is so freakin wonderful. That speech left me speechless. I wish i could just give her a hug and tell her how much she helps the world. I love her so much.
most amazing person/actress/whatever she would like to be in this world....in the world. i love her with all my heart, my soul, she's gorgeous, talented, real, educated beyond belief, intelligent, oh god i can't say enough. i have so many emotions for this woman, i don't believe anyone would understand. i've had the most amazing dreams that she's been in and they were vivid and beautiful and fulfill my dreams in real life. i have no words. no words. Meryl, to say the least, I LOVE YOU.
the words you found are so beautiful and true. i thought that I was the only one who feels like that about meryl streep. but after reading your comment about this video i´m happy that there are more people who feel so much for this angel who was sent to earth to bless us with her art.
well that's good that someone else feels the same way. i didn't mean to sound stalkerish or freaky or anything, it's just an admiration and nothing more lol just to clear that up.
if she wasnt an aactress then she should run for president or can she even though she is an actress i dont know im british can any americans help answer that? :S great speech amazing women and great actress love you mary louise streep xx
Anyone in the US can run for president if they were over the age of 35, and born in this country. Of course, you have to have some political background to do so! I'd love Meryl to be the president! She wouldn't be the first actor, Ronald Regan was a president in the 1980's, and he was a fairly famous actor.
This speech is brilliant. It's so good that Meryl stands up for things like women's rights because she obviously has a quite an influence on people like us. Meryl really does make the world a better place, I can't say it enough.
PS - I love it when she says the word "apartheid" at 4:17 because it's a Dutch word and I'm from Holland. Insanely cute.
She is such a strong women The speach was absolutely touching i was just sitting her thinking Why? Meryl Streep is an AMAZING women! She does use her fame for the best corses Hats off to her. i think that she is the queen of Hollywood! she is absolutely talented. and she is so bloody beutiful she is 59 and hav u seen the way she moves in Mamma Mia Damn!
