  • for that matter...

  • Does this procedure break any seals/stickers that will void warranty? Basically, will Apple know if I opened my Macbook up if something goes wrong? (I will place my old HDD back in there)

  • SSD. Not SSD Drive.

  • did you forget to tell them to clone the HDD? ooops? clone would be a lot easier then re-installing the entire OS... Nice try tho... And SSD for a 256GB your looking at 300 dollars on ebay. I saw some for 275 dollars no cheaper... But one can get a smaller for less but still a bit expensive.. ESP... to put one in a mac that's worth over 2 grand new and not to have a ssd... Well thats just right out robbery... :)

  • Made it easily understandable thanks

  • does this void warranty?

  • Hi, want to ask if I can I just buy any 2.5" SSD and just begin or must I back up the data I have in the stock HDD before beginning due to system softwares and whatnots?

  • Does this work with a Macbook 2010 unibody ?????? PLS answer

  • Hi how can you change the SSD drive in the iMac 27 from the 256 to a 512 as I have the twin hard drive iMac but the 256 is too small

  • WHAT THE FUCK?!! You pay like $2,500 for a Mac book and theres a fucking seagate HDD?

  • @BigDirtyBasterd this is why apple sells is too down compared to windows, imagine all companies like HP, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and etc work for windows PC and from other side is only apple to sell macs.. its a huge different.

btw am not hater because i like both of them and i do have iMac 2011, but this is the truth.

  • @BigDirtyBasterd its apple.

  • @BigDirtyBasterd buy a macbook air and you will have one :)

  • How to Install an SSD / Upgrade Your Hard Drive on a 2010 Unibody MacBook Pro:

Throw it away and buy a new one with SSD

    Perfect Apple style

  • what is the difference between an SSD and the original drive that was put in by apple?

  • @theawesomeness9911 the original in mechanical so it has like a laser that writes coding onto this weord film stuff, adn ssd is basically super fast and large flash memory... for example the loading times on the new mac will be about 10X faster in some cases.

  • @NoobTubeMeXD thanks man I was so confused.

  • i already do all that but after every think my screen is not starting is all black ! but may hard disk and caps lock all working what i shod to do ????

  • i have willy

  • @harborskoolmaniac solid state drive

  • we can go ahead and say "go ahead" 152 times

  • why would anybody in their right mind waste a good hard drive on such a crappy platform?

  • How much was that SSD? I have had a look and it's £440/$700 US.

  • Very informative video , but how I'd know which SSD is the best for my mid 2009 Macbook Pro 15". Thanks a lot

  • @nowaas Most SSDs are great but for you i would suggest an OCZ Vertex 3 they are among the fastest SSDs Cost Effective Extremely Reliable and are great for every day use you can pick up a 120gb vertex 3 from newegg for under $200 trust me they are great search youtube for reviews, plus they work great with MBPs and are twice as fast as the manufacturers SSDs and half the price.

  • @nowaas From what ive heard OCZ Vertex is the best. Fastest but don't know if it's the cheapest...

  • @christoffer501 I have a OCZ Agility 3 myself. I can not complain.

  • I just ordered a v-series 128gb. How is it holding up for you?

  • Thanks for this video! :0)

  • What can you upgrade on a Mac ? HDD and Memory... Good... What can you upgrade on a PC ? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING EVERYTHING THAT YOU SO DESIRE !

  • @bigsteamfan people want different computers, get over it

  • @bigsteamfan too true, big... but you missed out something critical... PC usually equals WINDOWS. and WINDOWS usually equals SHIT haha

  • @readyfire Why would you say that ? It's all down to the operating system you are most used to... I've used Windows for the past 12 years now and I could say the same about Mac OS X, that it's a piece of shit... But I wouldn't be saying that, probably if my first and only computer had OS X on it and I would have become used to it.. One final argument for me is the number of programs.. For each Mac OS X program out there, there are around 5000 more Windows programs.. and that's a WIN !

  • @bigsteamfan >Video about Macbook

    >Compare it to a Desktop

    Sounds legit.

  • @mario11168 Damn right it does...

  • can you give me the link for the ssd?

  • @Raizo1301 This is called Kingston SSDNow V100 SATA II 2.5" 256GB SSD

  • Will any ssd work/be compatible if i replace my laptops hdd?

  • How much was that SSD?

  • @mrcalloway1992

    About 600$

  • What's alooooooomium?

  • can i install a 30gb ssd on that place, and with an expansion kit replace the sperdrive unit and put my actual 500gb hdd?

    i'm using an aluminum macbook

    Thanks!

  • what is a SSD?

  • @harborskoolmaniac ask google

  • @harborskoolmaniac solid state drive. its a hard drive but with no moving parts is faster dosnt have to spin up to start reading or whatever. cost way more then a HDD but is worth every penny. boots up faster opens things up faster..

  • @harborskoolmaniac solid state drive

  • @harborskoolmaniac SIMPLE SHIT DEVICE

  • @harborskoolmaniac Solid State Drive. Unlike a normal HDD (Hard Disk Drive), it has no mving parts, which makes it significantly faster. :)

  • @harborskoolmaniac Solid State Drive

  • @harborskoolmaniac Solid state drive, a harddrive, based on flash memory...

  • how do you know which hdd is compatible with the macbook pro?

  • @timofosho basically they are all compatible...

  • NEVER DEFRAGMENT YOUR SSD

  • Comment removed

  • my macbook pro doesn't have a SSD, i believe its just a regular 320 GB drive, is SSD faster? or can i just upgrade to a regular drive with faster RPM?

  • Upgrading to SSD cost more, the advantage is performance and battery life improvement, cause there is no moving parts, upgrading to 7200rpm is not worth it for the speed, and it will shorten the battery life cause it uses more juice.

  • i hate apple and always will i showd my friend that bought the new imac this year how good a pc is and let him use mine and showed himm how good they are and now he hates his imac and usung it too and is going to sell it to buy a new pc.

  • @manslayerdbzgt i personally know 10 friends whosw nxt laptop are gonna be a macbook pro

  • now your warranty is screwed

  • @turtlecat77 Can't imagine it does. No warranty void stickers or anything, so no way for them to see if you did anything to it if you stick the old drive in before sending it in.

  • Macbook got screw?

  • What is the advantage of upgrading this.

  • @ccj1496 lol yes sorry... but an sad is totally compatible with the late 2008 model?

  • @ccj1496 Upgrading your harddrive may yeild More capacity to store files, faster throughput and slightly better access/seek time swhen upgrading the disk from 5400 to 7200 RPM or way afster throughput and access/seek times when upgradin to SSD.

  • is it possible to install a ssd hdd into a macbook pro late 2008?

  • @3rbal its either an SSD or HDD can't be both lol

  • Thank you very much!!!!!

  • Do I have to watch out for the thickness of the hard drive when I want to upgrade? Thanks

  • I am planning to upgrade my hard-drive and I was wondering if putting in an 2TB hard-drive is going to lower the performance of my Macbook Pro 15"??

Thanks for any suggestions or advice.

  • @ciawondertrio Only if you take a lower speed in rpm, the size of how much files it can hold doesn't slow it down. For example your old drive is a 7200 rpm on and your new one is 5400 rpm, that would slow it down (amount of mb's per second).

When your upgrading make sure you clone your old drive onto the new one using a sata to usb adaptor, or reinstall osx on the new drive. You can use tools such as Carbon Copy cloner to clone it.

  • heres an idia buy a pc

  • Excellent stuff. I replaced my harddrive in 20 minutes with complete confidence. Thanks!

  • thank you!

  • Will this void a warranty

  • do you have any idea how to do this with an iMac?

  • Jonathan do you like the unibody macbook pro's better than the older models?

  • What about the rebooting and installing Mac OS ? Is it easy ? And does it need extra drivers or software ? Sorry, I'm a noob.

  • @rioolput123 you dont need anything else, just turn it on, boot from your install dvd and install it.

  • I love a concise how-to video.

So often you see some dullard posting one where he's like "um, let's see. it worked a minute ago" or whatever. Taking ten minutes where 1 would work.

  • hi, will a macbook pro late 2009 take a hard drive thats 12.5 mm high ?

  • what about windows files? that was originally installed on HDD? O_o.

  • Can you move the old file image (filesystem) to the new SSD?

  • How much was the 256GB ssd? $2000?

  • @evolutionpr Right now the 256GB SSD is about 500 USD and 500GB are over 1000 USD. Just to compare, a 750GB HDD is 150 USD.

  • @gabriel3374

I knew I was exaggerating but I didn't know how much of an extent that I was, are you happy with the upgrade? Is it nice to have everything load up in less than 20 seconds now? I was very happy when I upgraded to my SSD.

Are you having any issues in regards to performance or firmware issues though? I've heard there were very bad issues with the firmware or performance offered by the Kingston SSDnow series. It was what persuaded me to go with another option.

  • Macbooks OS doesn't support TRIM get windows 7

  • hvad nu hvis jeg har en på 1 tb og får en ssd på 250 gb har min pc så kun 250gb eller har den 1 tb

  • oh man, to think this is what the inside of my computer could look like.

  • Thumbs up for the 7D in the back!

  • Is this the same procedure for a 2011 model?

  • Congrat for the video! :)

I have a macbook pro 13 inch and I want to replace the HDD to an SSD. Does the SSD increas a lot the battery life?

  • @naikabass Yes it does. Dunno how much but it defenitly does

  • I have a hard drive . . twice a day, to and from work.

  • @ThePrivateJoker hahahahaha

    Damn. Like it.

Me too have a damn hard drive twice a day.

  • @ThePrivateJoker I've screwed it up, so many times, in and out...

  • @ThePrivateJoker guess you're from Northampton like me then xD terrilbe town for drivers.

  • @ThePrivateJoker Oh you.

  • Hi do we have to install the software after we done install the ssd

  • I can see my spelling and grammar suck today!! What I meant to say was becuase of your greats videos I have placed an order today with OWC to do my RAM and HDDS for when my mac gets in. The new Sandybridge 15". BTW great nice vids you have. Most the youtubes vids are lame or just goofy, yours are very informative and I dont mind watching them at all.

  • Well because you you I have now placed an order to upgrade my drives and RAM on my yet to arrive sandbridge macbook pro. :) Cant wait.

  • Have you made any videos that compare HDD vs SSD ? Would have been nice to see an example on this laptop performance before and after

  • just goes to show how simple minded/technically retarded apple users are that they need such an in depth instruction video to take out a hard drive.

unscrew screws, remove bracket, remove hard drive

any PC user/upgrader with the slightest amount of technical competence could do this on any laptop

    stupid fuckin apple drones.

  • @ktonlai your a dork you fuckin faggot. who calls someone a drone? go clear up your acne pussy boy

  • Uhm.. did you use a Kingston (not apple made SSD(Cheaper then mac made SSD)) or is it something you bought a a mac store? please mail at tbc@youseeme.dk

  • @tomcrafter Apple doesn't make SSDs. He most likely bought the SSD from a local computer shop or online. You can use any SSD for a Macbook Pro, I would suggest buying one online from a reputable retailer as you would save a lot of money buying compared to buying it from the Apple store.

  • This wont void my warranty will it? Also any chances of it blowing up my computer???

  • Great video. So after you installed it, you put the installation disc in and did it automatically boot to it, and you installed from disc to the SSD. Did you get a folder with a question when you first booted it up? Thanks in advance!

  • awesome video man can u please tell me is it a 2.5 inch hardrive or 3.5

  • how do you install an ssd in a 2008 macbook air?

  • @ludtke337 cant

  • is this Jimmy Fallon?

  • At any point did you have to remove the battery from the motherboard

  • Nice video, I DJ with my Mac Book Pro in a club , have you had any problems with crashing with this upgrade!

  • just wondering when do you need to do this? and where can i get that from?

  • Thumbs up if you hate mac staff!

  • @hd5770soc Why on earth do you watch this vid than?

  • does this void your warranty?

  • was the original one you took out a regular 5400rpm hd? like could i take my 13in macbook pro unibody (with a 250gb hard drive, not ssd) and put in an ssd drive? in other words, is it the same connection or do you need to buy the ssd macbook?

  • cool vid....bt can u recommend a good cloning kit as i dont wanna do a clean intsall....

  • How many times can files be written/erased etc. to this SSD?

  • You get a cloning kit to swap the data from your old hard drive to your new one via USB otherwise you lose all data and have to do a fresh install

  • Did you have to reinstall ios on your Mac again?

  • @jamesmaloneofficial SSD's have no moving parts, its literally a larger thumbdrive. its quiet (due to nomoving parts) and less heat is produced ,also its more rugged in the way if you drop it it wont get damaged if a HD was installed. A HD has a disk spinning normally at 5,400 or 7,200 RPM

  • so there is no other type ssd... Only 1 type?

  • What model were you using for this video. The 15 or the 17?

  • Great vid! :)

    * things:

    1. Will this valid my care plan?

    2. will even a mediocre tech guy like me be able to do this?

    3. and finally whats the "best" SSD on the market today for a mbp '10, with around 250 gb?

    Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • hello when u open it , it doesnt get electric shock or damage parts rite? is it safe

  • can you change the processor on this model

  • why do you NOT talk about transferring data, we can do the screwing bit !

  • does any of this void apple's warranty?

  • @jsarver You are allowed to change the hard drive, it has to be installed correctly though.

  • @jsarver No as apple see's the hardrive and RAM as upgradable products, however changing the processor or disk drive will void the warranty. Ive upgraded my RAM from 4gb to 8gb and apple still took it in under warranty when I dropped my mbp and it got a dent :) Thumbs up so people can see this doesn't void the warranty!

  • @MrAppleUpdates Really ? :o

That's nice to know, thanks ;)

  • @jsarver ram and hdd upgrades dont but other stuff like the battery do.

  • @jsarver For my knowledge not really, you only void the warrenty when you open a dvd drive, or a hdd for example (theres a sticker on it most of the time that says warenty void if broken).

  • @jsarver No, you just lose it for the harddrive, but you can install the old one to get this back

  • @jsarver No. It doesn't void the warranty, just any damage sustained whilst doing the upgrade will not be covered under AppleCare.

  • @jsarver apple warrenty is pretty useless, you have to pay for spare parts even though it is warranty. for other companies like dell, lenovo, they change the spare parts for you for free when your computer is in warranty status.

  • @jsarver Yes so it's probably good to keep the original drive just in case

  • Why does no one discuss how to transfer the data on the old hard drive to the new SSD?

  • Just bought me a Macbook Pro 15" i7 Hi-res, with stock 500gb HDD and expect it to arrive next week. I also bought a Corsair Force F120 SSD hard drive, which I had delivered yesterday. The only reason why I didn't buy Macbook Pro with SSD from apple was because the delivery time. My school starts within 2 weeks so I had to get it fast.

So, when my Macbook arrives the first thing is to open it up and remove the HDD and replace it with the 120gb Corsair Force SSD, using you'r "How to video".

  • @AndreasXPS

My first computer ever, and I'm new to Mac. Im excited about this :)

  • 'Go ahead and..'

  • Really nice video. I dont even have a Macbook Pro yet, never used OS X for longer than 5 minutes and I already want to upgrade the HDD to a SSD. Thanks for making this helpfull guide. How is it actually with the (which people say) decreasing speed of the SSD?

  • what kind of ssd do you need for a macbook pro? is it a micro sata, a reg 2.5 ?

  • Shouldn't you remove the battery before doing anything inside the laptop?

  • how much did the ssd cost you?

  • oh and also where did you get it from? im thinking of ordering offof amazon? could you possibly give me a link straight to a 7200rpm SSD 256 GB please? much appreciated if possible :)

  • uno the hard drive u took out, it was 500 gb, isn't that better than the one u put in, in terms of storage? ssd is quicker but can it hold as much as the 500 gb? might be a stupid question but im just wondering :) and i wana throw a 7200rpm in my macbook pro i7 also, how do i do that?

  • @3aaadddzzz0 to put a 7200rpm HDD you'd follow the exact instructions of this video :) and yea 500GB is more but in this case it's quality over quantity. No moving parts more than double the read and write times, longer battery, cooler temps :)

  • @3aaadddzzz0 it doesnt hold as much as the 500 GB but it is much faster and he may not need 500 GB of space anyway. and installing a 7200rpm is the same way as he showed

  • nice

  • cool video. I might upgrade my laptop in the future, but not right now, because I just installed Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack on it

  • @TheImpossibleQuiz999 oh cool how you likin it?

  • @TheImpossibleQuiz999 show off

  • Another excellent video and tutorial. How's the speed improvement with the SSD drive?

  • @FiftyTwoPickup Ridiculous haha this SSD has read write of nearly 200 MB/s!

  • @tldtoday

200Mb/s ? wtf is that shit

  • @tldtoday And yet the Kingston SSDs are the slow ones :P

    Can't wait for my 240GB Vertex 2 [3.5"]

  • Cool :) Just wondering once you installed the SSD did you have to do any firmware updates? If so, how did you do it? Then you just popped in your OS X install disc and reformatted and that was it? I ask because I've never done this before and will be doing this once I get my SSD.
