Jeremy Brett's Holmes will always be the best to me, and Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock is indeed a very special and interesting one (Robert Downey Jr's is such a rubbish one :P)
@wincipoet I agree about the Robert Downey Jr. movie! It was so confusing, I couldn't follow it at all. This modern Sherlock Holmes is certainly very interesting. (:
Wow, it's interesting to hear Benny talk about Jeremy - I'm making my way through JB's series at the moment and I always wondered what Benny thought of it. Shouldn't have been surprised he was a family friend!
To be honest, I didn't like Basil Rathbone's version very much... He seemed a little more like a machine with little to no flaws, in my opinion. Jeremy Brett's, Robert Downey Jr's and Benedict Cumberbatch's (and let's not forget the little known Ronald Howard and the satiric role of Peter Cook!) are some of my favorites!
@KitsuneTheFoxgirl I completely agree, and though I do very much admire Rathbone's performances of the role I enjoy all of those you mentioned much much more.
Jeremy Brett was a family friend? Wow.

Russians consider Livanov to be the best Holmes ever, but I'll stand by Benedict )))
