@legoofeggos sorry to tell you this but these type of cars are old, so theyre going to retire soon. Then the R143/R160 trains are going to replace it, and some of the new trains which is R179/R211. These would only be in service for at least a few more years. The R38 is going to be in service until 2017, according to MTA.
@Dhurdle2 No the r38s retired in March 18 of 2009 on the C line its the remaining R32s and R42s that wont get retired by the r179 until 2017 get ur facts straight before posting it on the internet
@MustangFan424 I mean this in a funny way, but you uploaded your tribute video to the R42's on the (L) in June 2007, yet this was filmed in July 2007. Lol. Good catch though.
@mysteryman557 Yes because this was around the time where the R42s were pulled from the L line. This was the last time I ever saw an R42 on the L line, and I got to film it too which is even more special.
i agree with tine214. whenever i go to visit my family in NY, i always go use the subway but most of the trains have no real good rf views. i like seeing the tracks and tunnels on the trains. although i do like the sounds of the propulsions and stopping of the newer trains so at least thats an up for me
with all these new subways coming out, riding them will not be as fun anymore, although i must admit, i do like the R62s and R68s. the only 1 thing im grateful is what u said. we still have the old skool subway stations around. u should see the one around 181st street on the A line. it still looks the same for as long as i can remember. brings back childhood memories. redbirds were good cars. i have no idea why they took them off. the ppl from the MTA suck
tine214 i couldnt agree with u more. the new trains are boring and too plain. its bad enough they got rid of the graffiti trains and the other good old trains. now there putting these pieces of shit R160s.
I disagree. I think the r160s are fast. I haven't seen an R42 take on a sharp curve (like near Graham Ave) faster than R160. But you know, both trains have their ups and downs. However, if they build future trains, they should have two half-width cabs so as to let passengers go through the middle and get RFWs. Who agrees?
Thats right! They are Japanese and French Pieces of Shit. Their not even american built, and the MTA is already having trouble with the trucks cracking on the Siemens R160s.
@thesubwaynut--Sure is! Who knows when those great train cars with those so cool seat will ever run on the BMT in that part of the borough on the L line again. Should be tomorrow (November 16th, 2011), dammit!
There are no more r 42s on the L. That ended in like 2007.

The 62s are junk to operate.
