What does Walmart or Hanes have to do with poverty in the 3rd world? They are providing jobs, no more, no less..in some cases more, through philanthropy, but they are certainly not required to do that...You think people are giving up their homes, education, or other jobs to be exploited in a sweatshop? There are long lines of applicants whenever a new factory opens. Anyone appalled at these pics or words should come to the DR or another 3rd world country and volunteer *their* time or money..

Those pics are very real pictures of people's homes in the Dominican, i have seen it. Walmart is the WORST thing that has EVER happened. People are more concerned with saving a buck than doing the right thing.

I have to say, I know Wal-Mart doesn't have great ethics, but... this slideshow is crap. Half of the pictures are too distorted to see, and others are just stock footage of classrooms. Nothing is actual video of anyone's home or work.

Sending jobs overseas => less expense for Walmart => cheaper prices at their store => people abandoning their local retail stores to shop at Walmart => U.S. manufacturing & small retail stores go away... effectively only Walmart remains at the end of the day. This company pays employees poorly & provides few benefits. Long term this is a downward spiral which is bad for everyone in the U.S. except maybe Walmart shareholders. Please do your shopping somewhere else!
