    ~Janie

  • So very beautiful. Love this song.

  • nicee!

  • Bravo . Sull accordo al minuto 1.22 forse è meglio il re/mib invece che re/fa. Comunque bello lo stesso.

  • Nice. Very Nice! That Taylor looks great. Also looks older. It sounds good. Very Good.

    Kudos 7 *****

  • how about some chord diagrams the 5th chord sounds super ..... does it have a name?

  • not sure which one you mean, but i think it's the minor7 add9 (play a regular aminor minor in first position but with the note b on the 3rd string instead of the note a, and you'll get the idea)

  • actually that would just be a minor add 9 (no 7)

  • i knew it playing on sax by charlie parker, it's so beautifull thank you "Monsieur" as we use to say in france

    ludo

  • Thank you......

  • and thank you for all the comments

  • Thanks for this heartwarming "Laura"! Do you know there is another "Laura" bei famous Catalan singer and songwriter Lluis Llach, which is - for me - at least as wonderful as this Laura from the movie.

  • Thank you very much for sharing this beauty with us.

  • Miss more of your luscious style.

  • You gained 8 more suscribers in the last 24 hours. That makes 8,984 waiting for the next song. But, don't take this as a hint or anything.

  • haha, yeah, gotta get off my ass. soon

  • To paraphrase the lyrics, "That was troubleclef, but he's only a dream." Nice arrangement of this harmonically haunting song.

  • Excellent work, as usual! i sure wish you'd consider putting some tabs down for us, especially for "Caroline, No" and God Only Knows". btw, i have posted n my channel a video of my interview with Chuck Britz (Beach Boys engineer) in case your interested.

  • superbe

  • Excellent arrangement and performance.

    Ron

  • Wonderful. Congratulations

  • Love the song. Was I the only one to go answer the door at 1:15. (twice - I'm kinda slow.)

  • J'aime Gene Tierney et ton interprétation est superbe,merci...!

  • Hey Troubleclef..Lost a little more hair..Not one of my favorites,but you still Rock..JRingo

  • i subscribed!

  • The beauty of your arrangements is in the tasteful choice of elements that pay homage to the original piece. You go right to the heart of the composition and pull the most important textures, melodies, riffs, runs licks and tricks then put them together so that it hurts to hear what the originals meant - but the reminder is lovely.

  • I appreciate the comment. thanks.

  • If playing guitar is not your day-job, it should be. If playing guitar is your day-job... Where do you play?

  • you are so cool to play that so we all can see. cool jazz chords in that :)

    Lynn From Scotland

    PS Still raining over here

  • Hi Lynn, thanks for checking in. Your hard work will surely pay off soon.

  • Beautiful Tony,a magnificent composition and you played some mighty fine Jazz-chords there accompanying this fine melody, nice altered sounds man, as if a Jazzman was doing this Job,is this your own arrangement? Greets Victor.

  • thanks, but nah, i lifted the chords pretty much straight from the Barney Kessel version with Julie London singing.

  • gracis por avisar

  • Wow....Beautiful.

So when are you going to put out a CD ?

  • Nice job Tony

    Cheers,

    Anders

  • thanks, Anders. I've just been checking out some of your latest stuff too. Nice.

  • Wow, that was nice :)- I was thinking you must be on vacation! Thanks for this mate, sound is great on my end. TRB

  • laura is quite a captivating movie

  • Outstanding job.

  • Why is all the sound on my left ear?

  • because your headphones are broken

  • Hehe no, the other videos work fine, but I think its because I press on High Quality, when I press "watch in standard quality" I get on both ears.

  • thanks for that bit of information. I recorded on just one mic because youtube monofies everyhting. But now what you're telling me is the high quality must be in stereo. I did not know that. thanks.

  • Raksin was a great composer; shame his name was never quite as well-remembered as contemporaries like Steiner, Waxman, Korngold, Rosza etc. Do a search for Brian Stokes Mitchell singing this one, with John Williams conducting. Beautiful.

  • thanks. Lots of people still spell it "Raskin", too! :D

I'm not sure I know much more of his music than that which he wrote for 'Laura', but that alone is enough to remember him by.

  • very nice! one of my all time favorite movies...thx!

  • Very nice. Why did you choose to play it in Eb, rather than D?

  • thanks. that key just matches the version i learned from. didn't know the sheet was different.

  • Beautiful. Good to hear you again.

  • I have missed your music. Thank you for such a soft, beautiful rendition.

  • Beautiful.

  • That Taylor is lucky to have you as its Master! Simply superlative, as beautiful as Gene Tierney herself... well, almost. I fell in love with her from "The Ghost & Mrs. Muir" when I was but a lad. Thank you for posting. ~Jon

  • Yeah, that's another great movie..with an AMAZING soundtrack too. Gene's such a babe.

  • Wasn't that Bernard Hermann's score? He is a genius, none-the-less (like you!).

  • me no genius.

Yes i think you're right about Bernard and the score to "Mrs." I think he won the oscar for that score, didn't he? The music and the montage during the scene where time and tide washes over the post with the name of her daughter on it just kills me.

  • I'm glad you mentioned that scene. To this day I choked up watching it. It is perhaps one of the finest synergies of image and music I know of, with tightly controlled crescendos and tearfully poignant strings. It is an iconic representation of time passing. Anyone reading this who has not seen "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" should purchase the DVD. It is one of those rare films you can visit over and over again. Happy to know we share this gem! ~Jon

  • I've missed your video's for, what a month? Well worth the wait.

  • Beautiful...

  • very nice,sounds great

  • loved it

  • if only i had your talent i would be a very happy man.

  • Thanks again. Made my day.

  • Great 5 stars

  • Ah, Dana Andrews. That wonderful man who always told me to Always Buy Chesterfields.

    Nice vid.

  • great - like everything else you post.

    that pretty much says it.

    thanks for the great work

  • Yeah! Man...That was nice...Thank you for posting...

  • I've always liked that piece, but never knew what the title was. Is this your own arrangement?

For some reason that song has always reminded me of "Summertime" a piece that I keep trying to play, but keep falling short of. I'd love to hear you give "Summertime" a turn.

  • Fun fact: During the production of "Laura," director Otto Preminger was originally going to use Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady" as Laura's theme music. David Raskin, who had already been commissioned to compose the rest of the film's music, had to talk Preminger into letting him have a crack at the theme, which eventually became the song "Laura." Good thing Preminger changed his mind, eh?

  • thanks for the story. yeah, it would have been a bad idea to go with anything else, especially a standard (well...'Sophisticated Lady' was probably a pretty new song at the time...not exactly a standard yet, but still.)

  • Great Stuff

  • Absolutely beautiful. Nice big sound!

  • thanks. still a little distorty here and there, though.

  • Gorgeous! I just watched this movie recently!

    Great job!

  • I like this very much. Also, for whatever it's worth,to me the guitar sounds brighter than in the last two videos. I think you've got it.

  • Sweeeet and classy!

  • lovely song, you made my day ;( thanks man! 5 to you

  • 5 Stars :)

  • Yup. Tres Bon!

  • Great playing as ever. Always a pleasure. Phil

  • Excellent.
