@MsMickeyness Many thanks. I`ve got the old (1880s) George Washburn banjo strung with gut and tuned down to open D (5th D, 4th A, 3rd D, 2nd F# 1st A). The relationship between the strings is the same as when tuned to open G.
I`m not a fan of P.E.T.A. either but don`t care much for your vulgar language; too bad people find it difficult to express themselves these days without resorting to potty-mouth talk.
Je veux me mettre au banjo, et je cherche un prof sur Paris (je galère un peu, je vous l'avoue ), mais quand je vois ça, je me dis que les génies existent. Chapeau.
He says that he wants to take up the banjo, and is looking for a teacher in Paris, but is procrastinating a bit. And when he sees your playing, he thinks geniuses really do exist.
Gut strings are made from animal matter, probably sheep. Nylon is a man made substance. It`s a lot cheaper than gut but I don`t think it sounds as good.
Wishuey. I just wanted to tell you I get my first musical instrument tomorrow. My first banjo! I have to say you inspired me to finally make the leap and get one. Thank you sir.
blueeyednirvana: I agree those 2 songs are my favorites of only "Doc" when It comes to bluegrass or old mountain music. Mr Ralph Stanley. I also really like "Stone Walls and Steel bars"
There you go again, apologizing. If it isn't for your playing, it's for your singing! I really like the way you sing this, so stop insulting my taste. LOL
Thank you sir for posting this video. I love this song its my all time favorite song of "Doc" Ralph Stanley.. I want to tell you a story.. There was this little latin kid that grew up wanting to play the banjo and really love bluegrass & country music. His father hated country music and would not let him play it or have a banjo.. That kid was me...make you feel the way they do....
Thanks. We had similar fathers. Mine couldn`t figure out how I developed an interest in "hillbilly" music, my parents being partial to the classical variety. I like Mozart too, ALL music in fact, but the old-time stuff, especially Ralph and Carter Stanley, really grabbed me and never let go.
It wasnt so much that it was country or the blue grass he just was a very evil man.. He didnt like that I like something different than what I was... Latin.. He saw it as a way to take something away from me. But like you said it stuck with me.. I feel the same way when I here a Irish fiddle... Maybe I was a irish immigrant in my past life..LoL.. Thank you sir and keep playing for us that were not allowed to play... :)
I once heard a different version of this song where Billy travels down the river into the next county and gets away, so it's a kind of gristly cautionary tale for young girls: don't trust strange boys, they might be psychos.
The old gal sings a whole lot better than I do. I wish there`d been better light as she`s got some really pretty inlay and carving. Maybe next time, as soon as I build up my nerve...
THATS SOO COOL :D LOVE IT !!

Aside from that, thanks for the kind words.

I apologize for that and removed the comment. Not an excuse but I was not in a great frame of mind for other reasons. Still, keep up the good work!
