Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was a smart , quiet, behind the scenes, classy, elegant woman that once graced our White House from Jan 61 to Nov 63. She was quite stunning and in such a very short time there she made such a significant impact on the world.  She was unique and brought style, appreciation of the arts and culture as well as a subtle class to the forefront during her lifetime. Gone now but she will never be forgotten.

She restored the historic Whitehouse and encouraged Americans to take pride in their artistic, as well as their political, heritage. Lost a son and then a husband inside a couple of months. @ra86226 - Well, I am enamored of JFK politically. It is very possible that JFK saved the whole world when he refused to let the Joint Chiefs bully him into invading Cuba. I voted for HIM...not for his wife. Why the press and bored housewives try to elevate the wife of a president to these lofty heights is beyond me. You can argue that it wasn't Jackie's fault but in fact...she played right into it. Apparently, that bizarre, high-pitched breathy voice of hers was Jackie doing Marylyn Monroe!

At least in Jackie's defense, she was something different than what came before, so she was something of a sensation. I wont delve into recent first ladies, but I think if you had to pick one to fawn over, Jackie Kennedy would have to be the only one from 1961 to the present.

What might have been a small, harmless diversion in the beginning has turned into a 24/7 media sensation. A first-lady's dress can make or break the presidency. I do not care about First Ladies, White House furniture or hairstyles. Frankly, I think grace and charm come from something completely different. Something quiet. Something different than Marilyn Monroe impersonations.

She was interviewed by the Warren Commission and author William Manchester for his book "The Death of a President.".
