IIRC there is a little peg that goes into the top of the base which will plug into a hole in the bottom of the ship.
There is also a 2 clawed type piece that goes underneath the ship in this area, I didnt glue that onto the ship as it makes putting it on and off the base difficult. I mearly just press this piece onto it when it's attached to the base.
Study the pictures in the manual carefully, it was quite easy to miss. I picked up on it when I had trouble attaching it too.
Oh, Forgot to mention! If you liked this kit, you might like the R-Gray 1 kit of RayStorm for the psx/ sega saturn as well! Awesome ship and great game as well :)
Incredible build, and great review. Thank you very much for posting this! I'm interested in building it myself but I think I'll have to practice on some other kits before I take this badboy on :)
When you say "Dirty Water" you mean like a "magic wash" of thinner/paint/extender, yeah? Is that the only detailing method you used? A few other shots just say "and detailing", and I'm curious to try this thing myself using some of the methods you mentioned. Your results are great.
I used various detailing methods, most notable was of course the "dirty water" the other one was rubbing pencil lead on certain areas to tarnish them or even to highlight edges. Another was rust which was supplied by Tamiya in their weatherine masters cases, concentrated amounts of this rubbed into the right areas can give them alot more depth of colour. The rest is just standard use of light/dark colours in the right areas, often resorting to mixing them on a plate.
Is colouring the main body with white primer what you prefer? Or what you had around? Also, sorry if this is a noob question, but when you say "dirty water" is that water with paint diluted in it?
I decided on the white primer as I was after a satin white finish, however as there is alot of fine details on the kit such as panel lines and such I felt that the use of Tamiya's fine white primer would suit the job just fine on its own. as its a fine primer it wouldnt cover up the details and it also gave me the exact satin like finish I was after, I really didnt want a matt or gloss finish.
And yes "dirty water" is basicly just a mix of water/thinners and black/grey paints :]
@AlvarezAzel I know what you mean. it's tough finding a white paint that doesn't look like correction fluid. I've been thinking about getting this kit, so thanks for answering my question
I 100% agree on the Ginkei, it would be fantastic to have both ships posed side by side. I note that the Black version of Ikaruga is scheduled for release in October.
Kotobukiya's armored core range of mech kits are incredible, if you enjoyed Ikaruga I think you'd like these kits.
I really enjoyed watching your build of the Ikaruga and its inspired me to try my best with my own paint scheme. Hopefully I'll have some images to share over the next week or two.
Oh they are doing the dark ship too, thats very good news i'll wait till that comes and get that one as I was considering just buying another of these and redoing it in the dark scheme, fortunately I wont have too.
I'll certainly look at Koto's range of kits, after building this it's really given me a taste for some more similar kits. Building cars all the time can become rather dull.
I generally build 1/24th cars so it'll no doubt be one of them.
This Ikaruga kit was a first for me so I learnt alot building it, I really hope Kotobukiya produce the Ginkei ship from Ikaruga or even the Silverguns from Radiant silvergun.
As it is though this kit has to be one of the finest I have ever made and im certainly going to look into more of what they produce :]
Many thanks for sharing your experiences during the completion of this ikaruga model. It is great to see the stages and some of the decisions that you made. It looks great.
DAMMIT! yo make me wanna buy diz sh!t.

Great review for a great model!
It is a snap-fit kit or does it needs glue?
nycteris78 5 months ago
@nycteris78
You will certainly need glue to keep everything tight and in place, However alot of movable parts dont need gluing on it.
IIRC I didnt use a great deal of it building this.

Ohhh I remember that game from the Saturn!
Who made the kit btw? Im having trouble getting info on it, all I managed so far is a rather basic prepainted clip together toy.
AlvarezAzel 6 months ago
@AlvarezAzel I think it's the same guy who modelled this one!

You can check on hlj or one of the sites where they sell them, you can sort by sculptor / designer

I got one of these kits last week and I'm currently in the painting phase of the build, I'm really enjoying the model.
