Surely, this does not refer to bands like Rainbow?
Also, I was pretty sure I would only ever like punk and metal and that I hated pop music, until I discovered Pet Shop Boys (recommended by a punk singer) and realized it wasn't that I hated pop, simply that I had never heard any popular music that I actually liked.
It's not always about the genre, but also about the quality. Long live PSB.
Yeah, there is nothing wrong with being a bit open minded with music. Some people do not understand this. They are like: HOW THE HELL can you listen to Techno, Pop (PSB e.g.) and a bit of Rock/Hip-Hop at the same time? They even try to tell you that you're a trend victim. How can this be true when you go by taste and not by trends? And the tip of the iceberg: They don't even know the music you listen to because they never tried anything else except 1 genre.These are morons.
@Davaris122 I have never tried that. I just accept their taste in music and they usually ignore mine as long as I don't force them to listen to AFI :).
So many people tell me that I'm close minded by not listening to all genres of music. However, I think that makes them the close minded ones by not acknowledging that some people aren't into certain genres. I really admire Pet Shop Boys for not feeling obligated to support all genres. Also, much of this song's lyrics apply to the rap music of today as well, in my opinion. Especially "someone preaches ugly manners." Rap from the US anyways. Not sure about rap in the UK.
Someone states the obvious Someone sneers at all you love Someone preaches ugly manners excluding some, including me This is how I learned to hate rock 'n' roll This is how I learned to hate rock 'n' roll All feelings blunted, all passion spent Everybody does what everybody does All the broken promises to recreate a status quo This is how I learned to hate rock 'n' roll This is how I learned to hate rock 'n' roll
Awesome - I haven't heard this in ages - I used to love it as it really kicks in after a slowish start. Great song.......Bilingual (the album) was a true treasure chest of b-sides.
Something worse than rock n'roll today is heavy metal. The lyrics can very well be applied to that as well, which makes this one of my favourite songs!
Great song. Pet Shop Boys come up with some funny but cool songs.

I wish there was an extended version... the fade out sounds just too good to be the end :)
Can anybody tell me what's the repeated line between 2:57 and 3:28?

@Tomster0001 Good question, wish I could understand it too. There is an extended version now and it's pretty good, I think. It's on youtube.

@Zeneeka0405 Metal had a time and a place. That time is long gone... Metal is now just white people yelling a lot. Why are they "angry"?

@Zeneeka0405
I totally agree. Tried it and didn't like it.
