Tillman is no more a hero than any other person who serves in our Armed Forces. The Gov wanted to make him a poster-boy. My nephew put in 8 years in teh Marines: three tours in Iraq, including the first with Col. B.P McCoy taking Baghdad and moving on to JTAC with MARSOC. The fact that Tillman died does not make him, nor my nephew, any more or less a "hero".

This is the biggest problem with the prospect of going into the military and possibly the main reason why I never did. First of all, our soldiers are brave, selfless HEROES. I have nothing but respect for them. Tillman is no more a hero than any other person who serves in our Armed Forces. The Gov wanted to make him a poster-boy. My nephew put in 8 years in teh Marines: three tours in Iraq, including the first with Col. B.P McCoy taking Baghdad and moving on to JTAC with MARSOC. The fact that Tillman died does not make him, nor my nephew, any more or less a "hero".

This is the biggest problem with the prospect of going into the military and possibly the main reason why I never did. First of all, our soldiers are brave, selfless HEROES. I have nothing but respect for them. The problem is, the people pulling the strings (e.g. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld) are sick, egotistical, stubborn LIARS who are willing to put our troops in harm's way when THEY KNOW it isn't truly, absolutely necessary. Why people like that do not go to prison is beyond me.

At the very least, he jeopardized his pro football career and millions of dollars by doing this. An injury preventing him from ever playing football again could've happened easily. The most sickening factor to this is more based around the fact of Tillman's beliefs, or more to the point lack there of. Tillman wasn't a religious man, possibly even an atheist; however, since the military is predominantly evangelical christian, more than likely he was killed because of some religious nutcase believing he would be better off dead. Religion can be a reason for great good nad for great evil... this case was probably the latter.

However, I was not there and will never know the truth. Perhaps it was just a mistake. But why the cover up? Fragging has happened throughout history especially during Vietnam. I saw a episode of the First 48 where these 2 guys were shot at and robbed and 1 of the two guys while running away in the darkness pulled out his gun and accidently shot his partner.
