  • Bronze liners are used in way of the bearings with a shaft coating to cover any exposed steel between the liners. The Thordon Bearings website explains the system, seems there are already lots of companies using this system with no trouble.

  • wouldnt the sea water cause corrosion and growth on the shaft?

  • @kidthing1119 they use corrosion resistant material stainless steel for example. or coat the shaft is something to protect it

  • @kidthing1119 read the text: it is conditioned seawater so the shaft will not rust.

  • @wj4710 Conditioned seawater means only that suspended solids (>80 microns or 0.003") are removed. This has no impact on preventing rust. The shaft must be protected from corroison effects of salt water. Thordon has Thor-Coat 2 part epoxy shaft coating to protect shaft between liners and typically bearings run against bronze shaft liners.
