This is the guy who was convicted of leaving the scene of an accident in which you struck a cyclist and then ran two red lights while pursued by the police and was subsequently ordered to serve 70 hours of community service back in May of 2003 disqualifies him from posing as a "Man of the People" on a major cable news network.
Sonny Bono, Jesse Ventura, Ronald Reagan and AHnold... opinions vary but some people would argue they turned out okay regardless of their former professions.
Franken should never have been the nominee. He was a low-polling carpetbagger who had no reach beyond the base. Unfortunately, his celebrity scared anyone else who was considering running out of the race. His numbers with independents were abysmal and his re-election prospects are bleak. I would have much preferred a Matt Entenza, Steve Kelley, or Tim Walz in the race; any of them would have beat Coleman much more soundly than Franken.
That may be true, Nick, but anyone who thinks Franken is unqualified because he's a former comedian isn't being honest. The guy is far more intelligent and informed than the vast majority of congress.
Don't lecture me on what it means to be a Minnesotan, I've lived here all my life. Franken lived out of state for decades, and the one and only reason he moved back was to run for the office. As much as I hate Coleman, this was the one thing he had on Franken: Coleman has lived in Minnesota since 1976.
And he won't be re-elected because of the 6-year curse: the second midterm elections of a 2-term president are cruel to Senators who were elected on coattails (2006, 1986, 1974, 1956, etc.)
Franken a Carpetbagger? He was born in Minnesota and lived in other parts of the country due to education (Harvard U) and work(Writing, TV, Movies, Stand up etc.)
Coleman? He was born in Brooklyn, (NY not MN) just like me. He should have tried to become a NY Senator (never!) by your logic
Nonsense. Coleman had lived in Minnesota for 32 years before the 2008 election, whereas Franken had just moved back after 30+ years away. Coleman, as much as I hate him, was, by residence standards, much more qualified than Franken. Franken's long absence from the state should have disqualified him from running, and in his place we could have had a much more capable candidate who could have beaten Coleman handily and saved us from this recount nonsense. .
Also, check your facts. Franken was not born in Minnesota, he was born in New York. The only real time he spent in Minnesota was up to the point he left for college. After that, it was virtually all east coast until he miraculously decided he was a Minnesotan again to run in 08.

I enjoy watching him too. But I have been curious as to how he would do if he had his own talk-show on radio? Someone should make him an offer.

We had a pair of clowns in office for eight years, so I don't think a comedian in the Senate would be a big deal.

They're all comedians much of the time. At least Al Franken is funny.
esauofrensfal 2 years ago 13
Yes. There is a big difference between comedians (Franken, Colbert, etc..) and clowns (Limbaugh, Hannity, etc...)
