JOE WAS MY DRUM INSTRUCTER IN 1965/66, OUT OF THE DRUM SHOP IN LAS VEGAS, HE TOLD ME IF YOU CAN SAY IT YOU CAN PLAY IT ,.I WAS MEZMERIZED BY HIS MASTERY OF STICK CONTROL, JUST WATCHING HIM PICK A FEW STICKS OUT OF A BOX OF 100, WAS AN ART........HE WASN'T AS MELLOW,THEN AS HE IS IN THE VIDEO HERE. BUT HE WAS ALOT YOUNGER IN "65" I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU JOE...................YOUR THE MASTER OF OFF TIME SYNCOPATION...................... &STICKS &STYLE....
One of the Greatest Drummers and one heck of a Nice Man. He ALWAYS made time to engage others interested in the ART of DRUMMING . His TASTE on the set was truly a musical approach. The man had ears that would LISTEN .and contribute to the piece being played. Not just a " Timer Keeper " A musicians musician....... We will meet again .....................
R.I.P. Joe, Thank You for giving us ur teachings....See Tony Royster Jr, Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckle and many many many more mention your name when playing, u influenced so many....I hope u and Buddy, Gene, Max are shedding somewhere..
@boyritmo1 intellectual property doesn't really exist from a legal standpoint. So if you have something to say, say it instead of trying to play lawyer ball cause I shot down a mother f****er just like you this year for trying to claim a song was his.
@jinzodude Double bass can be simple or difficult depends on the genre and the drummer. Every kind of music has its own technique. And Barker doesn't use double bass and blast beat.
@brittisnow That's actually a case for hardware, sticks, etc. Back in the day almost all drummers used cases that doubled as thrones. The case would actually match the drumset too so it looked like part of the kit.
Good Lord, and some bands these day's say they can't play the stuff they used to because they are getting older. Joe is what in his 70's here!? legend! RIP
Thanks so much for puttin this up man!! Joe and all the jazz greats like him are the only path to building and keeping the most rock hard, solid, foundation for a lifetime!!!!
Absolute genius

I'm a Travis Barker fan, He's a good drummer. But he DOES NOT compare to old boys. Gadd, Morello, Blakey.
