If this were true, he should be suing the TSA (which will help all of us) instead of laughing. However, I do believe that these images can be stored, inverted to 3D image, circulated online and printed. It's a shame that most people believe whateve the government tell them.

i would just argue b/c it gives everyone a false sense of security so that they don't ever demand real security. in other words, the hijacking of the airport security market by the state (no pun intended) will prevent the arising for FAR better security which could actually keep people safe. When market actors are actually disciplined by profit and loss they tend to be a much more concerned about actually serving the consumer.

This is ridiculous. Security procedures are not done better by the private market. The US privatized airport security and the result was predictable- airlines cut costs by cutting corners and hiring less experienced workers. Security has become weaker.

This is predictable because hijacking is very rare, but security is expensive. The profit motive suggests that you should pay as little as possible, cross your fingers, and hope.

If we had airliners with private security competing....and a customer had a free choice between airlines....and some airlines had more disasters (ie, less effective security) than others, the customer wouldn't patronize the safer airliners??? this means for the money they saved in lax security those dangerous airliners WOULD GO BANKRUPT.

This is not the case.

As if often true about economics, a little knowledge can be very dangerous. If you are going to have opinions about the functioning of a free market versus government provision of services, you should learn a bit about the bounds in which the free market operates.

That would require airplanes to be attacked enough that you could see one airline to be attacked successfully more or less often than others. But airlines are not attacked frequently enough to provide that information.

Free markets require consumer information to avoid disfunction. This information is not present in this context.

Private security firms could agree to a maximum as well as a minimum effectiveness level in order to reduce costs and increase profit. I think Nash's equilibrium principle in game theory covers this. So private enterprise does not necessarily guarantee the most effective security because profit is the most important motivation, not effectiveness.
