Maybe it's just an indication of his style, or maybe it was a very clever tie-in later on in the show... but there are some very familiar melodies and phrasing, like the main riff from his re-imagined "All Along The Watchtower." Bear, if you read this comments... was it your idea to feature the song "All Along the Watchtower," or was it someone like Ron D. Moore?
After leaving my cello in it's case for nearly 4 years (I played for 14 years), your music got me to start over again. And I'm thinking of renting a violin, just out of curiosity. You're a wonderful musician, and I wish you the very best for your future!
I was comparing the re-imagined BSG to the 1978 version and.. the music. All the music just adds a whole new dimension to the whole experience of the show. Thank you Mr. McCreary.
Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this .. I am not kidding I literally bought a violin to learn this but would love to play it on the piano :)
It's hard to explain to my friends that my favorite contemporary composer is the one who wrote the soundtrack to a show about spaceships, and that said show is actually really good also..."Battlestar Galactica" carries such a nerd stigma for something that is so well written and acted...and scored.
A seemingly simple composition, like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, but with an underlying depth and life of something by Bach. I was surprised to see how young Bear was when he did the BSG scores! That's a lot of imagination and talent you usually expect to see in more seasoned composers. There were things about the new BSG I didn't like and did, but the music score definitely took the show to another level. Imagine Star Wars if it didn't have John Williams giving the story that epic quality...
You know, I don't know why they didn't end the series with this song or with "The Shape of Things to Come." It was a complete joke that they ended the series with jimi's all along the watch tower.... What a shame.
I want to learn this song.....so that I can play it at my father's funeral, when the time come. Call that morbid, but this song is so unfathomably touching, it can not be put into words.
This is my favourite song hes made. I nearly cried the first time I heard this though Ive no idea why. Its Epic, gentle and etheral all at the same time.
Its nice to know theres someone out there who can still make music so moving.
I'm so excited to see a channel for you on YouTube! BSG on its own was an amazing series; your music multiplied that tenfold. I'll be crossing my fingers to see The Shape of Things To Come soon and/or a live version of Capricoperatica.
Love it! I was waiting for Bear to upload this one. I re-transcribed this song back to a quartet and it'll be played at my upcoming wedding by a quartet. Can't wait to hear it in person!
Wonderful score. The orchestral original is one of my favourite pieces of music of all time. I think when I play this I will use the sustain pedal a bit more though.
When I first heard the orchestral version of this, tears spilled down my face. So moving, so beautiful, and yet so interesting musically. With "The Shape of Things to Come," and other master works, you have created for BSG music that soars into the galaxy.
Now, when will we get to hear a symphony here in this country?
Love this one, Bear. One of my favorites. Thanks for posting-I've been having trouble with the arrangement, and it really helps to see hands on keys doing it right! Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
I've always thought that this song defines the whole season 1, the best season of the series. When I was watching the part 12, I thought "wow, this is so amazing and innovative, I've never seen anything like it"
It was incredibly emotional, especially when Boomer was shot.

I've cried for music before, but I've never been driven to tears from a piano solo before...until now.

Battlestar Galactica was %50 acting and VFX, and %50 Bear McCreary's awesome scores. Without him, it was considered just a show.
But now, it is a legend.
