I was kinda hoping to see Red Rock West on here. Very underrated movie and a really great noir in it's own right. I remember seeing it at a screening with Double Indemnity, good times.
Eric was clear this was only a "neo-noir" show, which meant nixing modern films set in that period. Would be great to see you do a follow-up show on modern noir films set in the '30s and '40s, like L.A. Confidential and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
another good show i just finished watching one of the films talked about on this show night moves with gene hack-man pretty good film take it easy guys look forward to the next show
I think Eric always gets to shine. Good to see Jeff will still appear. Good input from everyone in this episode. The table is a good idea: creates a more energized focused discussion. Harper's screenplay was by William Goldman. Congrats to Mike on the birth of his son.

Great segment! Mr. Cohen gets to shine and I like the fact that his opinion is taken with some degree of weight (for once). Well, maybe its just because I often find myself agreeing with him. Also, great to see Jeff back with the group,.....Sure you like the pussy, but can you appreciate the character development? :D :D Edwin, I love you man but we just never seem to agree on anything. You are like a doppelganger, who somehow has logic but seems to always miss (my) point of view.
Other great movies that were film noirs in a modern setting: Blade Runner, The Last Seduction and Blue Velvet
(O and I kinda like Body Heat back in the day, thought now I might think it was a little too slick perhaps) Harper is great, but the first? Haven't there always been film noir type stories (Kiss Me Deadly, In a Lonely Place, Touch of Evil come to mind)
just finished the square. i thought i had it figured out but i was way wrong. tho i didnt see it as noir at all but i see where you are coming from. the square isnt a must see but its a fine film
Another great episode as always. In my book, you guys easily replace Siskel and Ebert in criticism. I've always heard in the last 5 years that the era of the film critic is over. Those that say that should take a look at you guys
One of my favorite neo-noir films is David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY, which plays with the conventions of classic noir films and successfully fuses them with Lynch's own surrealistic spin... it's a thoroughly modern film, stylistically and thematically. Lynch has crafted other films with noir elements (Mulholland Drive for instance) but the style is most pronounced in this one, IMO.
@germkanoodle Ahhh, good to know! While I enjoy these thematic episodes, I must admit a slight preference for good old-fashioned auteur-centric film discussion!
oh, i thought you meant Knight Moves, with Christopher Lambert, about chess (it's good),...otherwise this was a good show. i agreed with all of you at various points

Man I just didn't dig Night Moves at all, it really felt dated and slow. The Long Goodbye however is the shit! Love that movie.

The reason Altman cast Gould in other movies is that he apologized publicly for doubting Altman's directing abilities. Sutherland never did.

Great show guys. I like the "Charlie Rose" set up too. But I also liked the "magic screen" thing you did during the Leone shows.
Congrats, Mike! Strider is a great name. Can we call him Telcontar?

@JohnGargo Heck I'd consider BLUE VELVET a neo noir as well. But I think we're saving those flicks for a David Lynch episode.
