  • @SanDhampir oh no, i know that he aint a rapist. im just saying therapist spells put the rapist :P

  • That stupid music makes me want to kick the walls...

  • Therapist = The rapist?

  • @kaylaluvesyhu HE'S NOT RAPIST! he's just saying that he cares about her b/c its clear that her family is too self-centred to even notice her

  • i wish he was my therapist too, not in the "i love you" way but in the reassurance. professionals have to be so far from the situation that affection seems to disappear

  • did the therapist say i love you? o.O

  • There are just some people who should not be parents.

  • Everytime I heard "You look better!" I felt worse.

  • Intrestly enough casey would be a cute couple with that guy kinda would remind me of alice and the ceshire cat

  • LOL, I love how the dad asks "Does it matter where we sit?" And the shrink is like, "Probably." I think he did that just to mess with the dad's head.

  • ACTING!!

  • This is so freakin depressing

  • OMG i can't believe im crying.....

  • See? Even now, it's still all about her. The mom saw her daughter after a long time and all she can think about is her own efforts picking a dumb blouse. So conceited.

  • The therapist is the priest from The Exorcist

  • @MsTracyb73 Thought so i just couldn't put my finger on it

  • @MsTracyb73 seriously!!?

  • Yeah, usually the cliche, 60's-80's thing is for the male doctor to be a super perv. But this guy's awesome. I love the psychiatrist!! :)

  • The Quality is fucking lame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gayle acts like she didnt get pregnant for attention, it was bad attention but she got attention none the less. Kacey is not doing this for attention.

  • @jusheather08 On the contrare. I do think Kacey began this for attention. She felt that losing weight would help bring her more attention from her mother specifically. Its why they had the mom as a former dancer who even said herself that Kacey could stand to lose a few pounds, comparing her to her days as a dancer, when she also dieted. Unfortunately it started a lot more innocent than it ended up. This is often what happens.

  • @Dopestarslove yeah she did, it was all for attention. her mom and dad didnt pay attention to her what so ever. she made the dance team and her parents told her straight to her face that she would never be a good dancer. and when gale got pregnant, its like casey didnt excist anymore.

  • @he3rtbrok3n Exactly. Its sort of an expose' on what its like to be the child that doesnt get enough attention and love from their parents. And it shows just what kind of damage it can lead to. Really sad,but too common to overlook.

  • I want to put the dad's head in a blender.

  • I think the psychiatrist is adorable, he's so dedicated and cares SO much. He obviously didn't mean it in an inappropriate way, he just cares about her. I think it's sweet, I wish psychiatrists these days were allowed to be less callous and more personal (obviously not TOO personal, but you know what I mean).

  • @Katchess , yes I agree. It's just you have to be so politically correct now, and there are films that were made in the 70s and 80s that couldn't be made the same way today because of it. I don't think he meant it in a creepy way, it was a way for him to let her know that she is loved and to give her the will to live.

  • The therapist is really creepy

  • what's the title of a book to the film? the same? and who is the auther?

    plz, somebody tell me! thanx

  • @Rayon18able

It's The Best Little Girl in the World by Steven Levenkron. The book is much better than the movie.

  • @withbloodredtears thank you! i am going to buy it and read :)

  • Isn't the doctor from The Exorcist?

  • Are eating disorders a way to get attention? Thats what the family meeting suggested...

  • @onebodaciousbabe Way I see it, there are as many triggers to disorders as there are human begings on the planet. Casey's is combined peer pressure/neglect. Another person's reason could be peer pressure alone, while another girl's trigger is family related (an abusive father always calling her "Chunky", or "You and your fat ass" or "You fat bitch").

  • @onebodaciousbabe in a way it could be a cry for help

  • in the book I LOVE kacey's psychiatrist. he's written in a way that's caring but not at all creepy.

  • the mom´s so bland, its like she has no feelings hehe never an expression

  • god, her mum is such an idiot, "I spent the whole afternoon picking that blouse out" well wtf, the parents only appreciate themselves and what they do, there is absolutely no relation person to person, just a stupid approach to something that is deadly serious.

  • God, that father is stupid.

  • this movie is the one which better explain the problem of anorexia.

  • I cried at this part in the book and the movie. So sad.

  • That hole family is soo screwed up!!

  • "are you trying to say..... that... I'M the cause of all this?" uh.. duh!

  • @charmedsigma don'tr forget her mother who "Thinks she knows Best" and her stupid older sister who does stupid things.

  • 1:02 She looks like EFFY from SKINS.

  • Well said

  • though that's really an unprofessional thing to say. a psychiatrist is not supposed to tell his patients he loves them.

  • i feel the same way as her...

  • I think Casey's doctor is about the nicest doctor there is. :) Why can't there be more people like him, sweet, kind, and passionate about helping people?

  • @starrbeatlesqueen Because in reality, people only become doctors for the money. They don't give a shit about the patient. As long as the checks clear they'll "be there for you", but after that they kick you out.

  • @ohthatweirdgirl Well, I'm about to become a doctor, and I have come home and cried my eyes out for patients. Of course there are doctors who don't give a damn, but most REALLY want to help, especially when they choose such an emotional specialization as EDs. Some doctors even forget themselves over helping others... It sounds like you have made bad experiences with doctors. BUT: Don't let that stop you from seeking help!! - Sorry for any mistakes, English isn't my mother tongue...

  • it's really really sad that her friend died. her only friend in the hospital. that is so sad :'( so so sad :'(

  • "Nobody's blaiming you."

    well I am!

  • did the girl die in the book?

  • nah she didnt die

  • @dinergirlx No she didn't die in the book. There's a 2nd book called Kessa by Steven Levenkron - it's all about Francessca's recovery. That's her name in the book, not Kacey. In the 1st book Francessca gives herself the name Kessa. She chants the name in her head over & over whilst exercising & starving herself, to remind herself who she wants to become It was all about destroying the "weak Francessca" & replacing her with the "super strong, skinny beautiful popular Kessa"etc.

  • It would have been appropriate for the therapist to say I love you if it were a woman. Not sure why she is seeing a male in the first place.

  • my therapist says he loves me and he is not the least bit a pedophile

  • I didn't say he was a pedophile.lol. I just think it may be inappropriate for a girl that age that's all.

  • i wish my therapist was that awesome, at least this guy seems like he actually gives a shit about her...

  • @iCANFEELYOUHERE yeah...I don't think my therapist even remembers my name...

  • @xAdamxHoneyx

Wow, you need help, or someone to pay some attention to you. It's your life, so live it like you want to live it, and forget everyone that brings you down.

  • this is nothing like the book. the name are not even right. don't get me wrong this movie is good. but NOTHING like the book.

  • the book was awsome

  • i know right

  • What? He therapist told her he lovs her? Isn't that inappropriate? Even if he meant it in a friend kind of way?

  • I dont see what was so bad about the I love you.

I think it would help her to feel needed in the world.. will to live.

  • Gail is very self-absorbed but she raises a good point. That the parents took for granted that Casey was such a good kid and as a result they neglected her in a lot of ways and didn't give her the attention and love she needed. That's why the therapist told her he loved her, because she probably hasn't been told that often enough, and he wanted to give her the will to live. Her parents still need work, which is what the family therapy session was all about.

  • how old is the girl with ana ment to be

  • 17, they say so in the first or second part

  • gee i hate that therapist! idk sch a creepo

  • In the book the sister's name is Suzanna and she doesn't live at home, and Casey is Francesca.

  • poetry ...

I, too, read this book, a long time ago, but doesn't she go by "Kessa" in it because she's pretending and wants to be someone else, so to speak? From what I remember, it was a really good book. I was in early adolescence when I read it. Now, I'm a mature, full-grown woman. Wait, I'm mature? Okay, scratch the mature part, I'm just full-grown. (LOL)

    Regards,

    B. =)

  • "I'm here.I love you."-therapist,then holds casey's hand on the pillow.

    PEEEDOOO!!!!

that moment was the creepiest scene of this movie.

  • Gail is such a freakin attention seeker "LETS START WITH ME". Doesn't she REALIZE that her sister needs help? Doesn't she care?

  • This is where the idea of 'The Intervention" by A&E TV was born :-)))) Just love late 80's early 90's B movies.

  • Why the hell would he tell her he loved her? One thing is trying to show that you do actually care, but... He's only seen her a few times, he's her therapist for gods sake! He couldnt love her, he doesnt her well enough for that. He should've said "I care about you".

  • if you read the book he is actually with her for a very long time before all of this

  • "Does it matter where we sit?"

    "Probably."

LOL. That almost makes up for the "I love you."

  • they should have ask a real psycholigist what you can/cant say to your patients before making this movie..lol 'i love you' for a moment i thought he had a plan or something what a creep

  • Everytime i sneeze, i get into trouble haha

  • boundaries... therapists do not act like that...or at least they are not supposed to. He is crossing boundaries. Plus, they cannot touch you unless they get your permission. Before I left for the hospital, my therapist asked, "Would you like a hug?" etc. I guess this is Hollywood though.

  • Plus this was the 80's before people became uptight about things like that too.

  • That therapist creeps me right the f*ck out.

  • HEYY!!! he is a great actor, so shut the fuck up...

jason miller is the best! there needs to be more people like him in this world! I LOVE JASON MILLER! HE IS MY VERY FAVORITE ACTOR! MY VERY FAVORITE!!!

  • The girl that plays Cassie is a wonderful actress:)

  • she is a terrific and dedicated young actor

  • who?

  • main girl

  • i think she's good

i know real people who act like her

  • he does say 'i love you'! err, conflict of interests i think. lol

  • did the psychiatrist just tell kacey he loves her ?

  • It most certainly sounds like that

  • @VanessaDipasquale I knew all along there was something wrong with that guy :D

  • Ugh, the mother makes me SO ANGRY.

    She's a fucking emotionless robot.

  • WHERE ARE HER PARENTS? o_O

  • this is so sad, but so real

  • I hope you never will be.

  • Its the most painful thing being that thin. You dont understand.

  • its okay to b thin but too thin is depressing. Imagin passing out everytime you wanted to go outside :(

  • at least i would be thin

  • This end part mademe cry

    :(

  • lol thats weird i swear the psychiatrist just said "i love you" what a perv honestly.

  • he didnt mean it in a pervy way, he just wanted her to know he's there for he, he loves her like a friend, or a daughter

  • hahaha <3

  • Throughout the movie, i can relate to the character of Casey. My family is always fighting. My sister is always getting into trouble and i'm always on the sidelines; looking in. My mother never told me she loved me or that she was proud. She was always yelling at my sister, complaining to me about her, etc. To control all of this i turned to extreme dieting and other unhealthy methods.

As relation to Casey, in Casey's eyes, having the shrink say i love u is warming.

  • "I was hopeing you'd be wear that new blouse I bought you!" is a cover to the mother's real concern. The mother doesn't know what else to say...

  • you look better - that is always such a bad comment, people should never comment on an anorexic looking better or healthier, it literally translates to you look fatter!!

  • Exactly, that's what my family did to me so many times, my father actually triggered my ED with his noncessant comments about my and my sister's looks. I have sometimes asked myself if he was a pedophile, he is just obsessed about other person's looks it's creepy, touching my ankles and stuff when I was younger, comparing my knees, parts of body to my parents'...

  • kissing me on the neck-, alhough I have told him NUMEROUS times not to, I tell them to stop commenting on my looks, it hurts so much :,,(((

  • jennifer jason leigh was so pretty here and in fast times at ridgemont high

  • thats so unprofessional, the therapist saying "i love you"

  • *sighs* i know its unprofessional, but what if the therapist is the only person who's ever said that to you?

  • At least the dad let his guard down... eben just foe a little while. The mums so cold and uptight, gaaaaah!

  • they ARE uptight!!

  • Ah, family therapy... sitting there in silence whilst my blustering father tried to convince two psychiatrists that my brother and were raised in a loving, nurturing and supportive family. >:(

  • pneumothorax, i couldn't describe it better.

  • I hate them but I want them and i hate wanting them...

    Wow thats deep!

  • Can you spell Dysfunctional?

  • Is anyone else feeling the massive awkwardness hovering in that room?

  • Wow Mom. Is the blouse really an issue at this point?

  • "oh, you look... better"

NOT a good thing to say to your daughter in treatment.

    helloooo.

  • i hate those words!!

  • wow, what a lovely case of arrhythmia she has there.

  • hehe, ya.

  • He played the priest in The Exorcist.

  • lol i thought it was dimmy :) i guess being a priest was too much not that i blame him ^_^ lol

  • i feel like her therapist telling her he loves her is just a bit out of line lol.

  • its so sweet what her dad says.

  • the sister still creeps me out. shes mad scary, especially the happy new year to a happy family part.

  • the guy creeps me out

  • Aw. Her therapist is so sweet. "i love you. i'm here for you."

  • "Aw. Her therapist is so sweet. "i love you. i'm here for you."

Could you imagine the potential lawsuits if a therapist were to say that today?

  • Yeah, today, that would be a BIG lawsuit... but you know, I think it might have really been beneficial for her, as her own family never tells her "I love you" and gives her real comfort and encouragement. They're all really selfish and emotionally abusive (her father, directly, her mother in a passive-agressive kind of way.) I think she needed to hear that someone loves her.

  • i agree..It is a little strange though. But whatever it takes to keep her alive.

  • They aren't allowed. The doctor said so in part seven, I think.

  • Yeah that psychologist IS really unprofessional. It creeps me out, how he is. Especially towards an anorexic, who's afraid of growing up and being by men.

  • This girl in getting on me mad.

  • the psychologist is SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!! what kind of psychologist speaks to their patients like that? holds their hands? sits at the side of their bed waiting for them to wake up?? --> unprofessional!!

  • i thought it was sweet...casey never recieved that kind of "act of caring" b4. In that case i think she needed it.

  • why the hell does she keep runnin away!!!

she know that she aint got enought strength to cross the street

  • so true, thats what i said in the scene way back when she tried to steal stuff and run away out of that store.

  • she runs aways b/c shes scared of getting well, she's scared of returning to her old self, growing up, getting her period back. the whole idea of getting "fat" again scares the hell out of her. I understand why she ran away.

  • How old is Casey's sister?

  • I THINK GALES 24

  • Who plays Casey in this movie?

  • Jennifer Jason Leigh.

She played in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" as Phoebe Cates best friend.

  • the dad is not a dumb asshole, he doesn't realise what he is doing, each person reacts differently in this situation its not that they do it on purpose it is just the way that they are because they love theyre children and do not know how to deal with it.

  • the dad did say this is new to him

  • it is in the 80's. People were just crawling out of their shells from denial of anorexia nervosa. Karen Carpenter's death opened the eyes of the world to disoder. So people like Casey's folks didn't know how to respond...

  • the dad is such a fucking dumb asshole!! he makes EVERYTHING about him.

  • she's an excellent actress =]

  • i know its just a movie, but its definitely weird for a therapist to say they love their patient..

  • Yes,a bit odd,but I think it was needed, considering what kind of family life she came from. Not the most loving..

  • agreed

  • Well I actually don't think it's weird that he tells her he loves her, her family won't tell her, I think that's what she really needed: To know that atleast some1 loves her <.<

    Lol

  • totally!! same thing happened to me with my therapist cutting me off. that was two years ago and i'm still completely fucked up.

  • please!!!!!

my therapist cut me off as soon as the insurance changed ... w/o a word

    totally no love there

  • It's a much better movie if you imagine him yelling "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU, CASEY!!! THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!"

  • LMAO XD

  • lmfgdao I KNOW RIGHT! Dami, why you do this? hahahaha I needed the laugh at this point in the movie.

  • That's a terrible thing to say.

    But i laughed ^^

  • It's legal in Michigan, at least.

    16+ baby, yeahhh!

  • This is an awesome movie.

  • You made it all this way, you sure you think it's shitty?
