  • I can hum this! I've been practising since I was six. My Rondo Allegro Vivacci is only foiled by my neighbours who constantly beg me to stop.

  • Mozart's music suits the human voice.

  • The cadenza at about 3 mins reminds me of Dennis Brain's but I cannot find his recording to check it!

At the time Brain's was the definitive recording of this, and the other Mozart horn concerti.

  • There will never be another.

The Tuba threat was not an idle one, as these guys were friends with Gerard Hoffnung and Swann wrote "Two Moods For Tuba" for him.

  • "Tutti" gets me every time, no matter how many times I hear it!!

And also the cadenza section at the end. Very very clever.

  • So this is what 'Armstrong and Miller' were doing a parody of!

  • F&S comic pieces are beautifully polished little gems. Something went out of English popular culture after the 60s - it was intelligence!

  • Hope to be doing this for my Grade 7 singing. I'm excited by scared as hell :L

  • @DifferentGirl3 good luck, its a funny song, and I wish you luck for whenever that is.

  • Tutti

  • Excellent singing and playing. Very clever.

  • The shot of the two of them at 1:00 is outstanding! I can't listen to the horn concerto and not sing along, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It's not a solemn piece, so if I sit there smiling, ready to see if the horn soloist is worthy of the words, who's to know?

  • @MsSoundguy It's like listening to the William Tell Overture without thinking about the Lone Ranger...

  • haha!

  • Have they been an influence on Armstrong & Miller do ya think?

  • @shoppinfrenzipookie Massively!

  • Tutti.

  • This is a great parody.

  • This is even funnier on video of their NY run. Swann is rocking nerviously on the piano bench while Flanders makes his way thru the cadenza. My favorite tho, is the Gnu song.

  • @Operafilli I'm a Gnu, how do you do?

  • At 3:03 I could swear Flanders WAS a horn.

    Brilliant!

  • Wasn't this on "At the Drop of ANOTHER Hat?"

  • It was.

  • And that album's jacket is depicted further on in the clip (3:19 to be precise).

  • My Horn teacher played it to me a few years ago, when I was learning the Concerto for a grade exam. I can't hear it now without thinking of Flanders & Swann's wonderful take on it :)

And I agree with Angustein, A & M's parodies are definitely meant affectionately - I would have said they're almost a tribute rather than a parody. Certainly they introduced a lot of people to F & S who would otherwise never have heard of them so they aren't exactly doing them a disservice, are they? :)

  • Oh glorious...thank you so much for posting...

  • great patter song

  • I think that it is a reverential parody and that they are probably quite the fan of these chaps. I reckon most modern watchers of comedy have no idea who Flanders and Swann are.

This is a brilliant song, my favourite F&S.

  • Rubbish, it's a very affectionate parody and has probably made more people aware of the originals.

  • @barpypardlo i suggest you write to the daily telegraph to complain forthwith!

  • I heard this on the radio probably 10 years ago and I haven't been able to find it until now. Thanks for posting this! :)

  • Thanks a lot!! It was great!!!

  • Thanks
