You have to try and see. Everyone's body is different. You can hurt yourself if you over stretch. If you don't stretch enough for your sport, purpose, etc. than you will not get the desired results.
This specific exercise you can do 3-6 times a week. If you do more each day you should do 3 days a week and if you stretch very light, you can stretch 6 days a week.

stretch at least once a day. I like to stretch twice a day and in two months I was able to do full splits./
