  • Could you do a video on bouncing stems, particularly effects on bus tracks?

  • ok, i have made my first loop:-)- but how do I use parts of that loops for an intro and or utilize separate parts of that loop for break downs, intro sections and breaks? For example, if I wanted to use just the snare and the high hats as an intro, how do I do that? In general: How do I edit the loop I've created? thanks so much for your help.

  • is there any way to get CamelPhat ?! cos i don't have it x)

  • Hi. I did everything you said to do but when I multiply the auxiliary tracks, the instruments are not separate and just stay to one track no matter how many I open. Help?

  • Thanks!!

  • Is there any way to make the drums a visible loop so that you can add other beats to your song and so forth?

  • you have great teaching abilities and know-how. thanks alot.

  • Hey soundsLogical, GREAT video. My only suggestion is that rather than opening up 7-8 auxilliary tracks you don't need from the ultrabeat, open one and click the button that looks like two rings interlocked at the bottom of the channel. This makes it mono.

  • I think Logic is more "logical" after seeing this! :3 hehe, anyways, great tutorial!

  • learnin a lot over here

  • Nicee vid THnxx

  • All of your videos are really helpful. Thank you, sir!

  • I'm having trouble getting Ultrabeat to send a sample to an auxiliary. I'm not using the Full View function in Ultrabeat and am instead programming the beat in the piano roll. Is there any reason why it shouldn't send?

By the way, brilliant videos, they've helped immeasurably!

  • Oh, and you can press the little circle at the bottom of the track to switch to the mono busses.

  • I imagine by now you've realized you don't actually need to open 8 of the aux channels, you can just open one and reassign it to bus 17 or 18. If not...HUZZAH!

  • tut tut, tshut tshut :P

  • ur tuts are awesome man! :D

  • Really helps and really easy to understand and follow cheers :)

  • Amazing I never even knew you could do that.

  • what is a send and what is a bus?

  • @julianh100 A send basically forwards the audio to another channel, which is what is called a bus. If you send audio at 0db to a bus, it will be playing out of both the original channel and the bus (so it will be be double as loud).

You can send multiple channels to the same bus. This way, if you put an effect on the bus, it will be applied to all the audio on that bus. This technique is often used to apply the same effect to multiple audio tracks (v. useful if the effect is CPU intensive).

  • @soundsLogical lol its been a little while since i have seen this question. seems so stupid now. thanks for the advice. it went a long way. great job and keep making awesome vids.

  • @julianh100 a bus is what ya ride to school. ya dingus. but i dunno what a send is

  • i do not hear what the compressor is doing at all. what is it for/what does it do?

  • @julianh100 Compressors basically make the sound louder when it needs to be louder, and softer when it needs to be softer. Almost like limiting but not really. You're not suppose to hear it.

  • totally cool vids all of them are fantastic.. i have been using logic for 7 years now and really like to work with others as they bring new stuff to the table. and watching your vids help remind me of stuff i shouldn't forget ^^ even after all that time i still suk with drums :( and just watching theese vids help me :D

BIG thx nice work and killer tunes mate

    keep it up

  • Awesome tutorial. Thanks for explaining yourself so thoroughly, it really helps us noObs that are trying to learn. Cheers!

  • Great! Thanks Mate!

  • Thanks, ur uploads are very informative and professional : ) Thanks a lot for uploading!

  • Great stuff man! Really helpful.

  • I only gets chanel 17 on evry aux strip when I hit the+

  • yeah big up urself geezer nice work where can we check out ur beats?

    bless

  • why you choose different kinds of circuits in compressor , can you explain a little

  • Thanx your tutorials are always helpful and refreshing !

  • Thanks for the video, very useful.

  • i cant find the "plus sign" next to my ultrabeat to add up to 9 channels. Can u please help me??

  • @megatronfromda80s

I have the same problem, someone can help plz? thnx

  • @megatronfromda80s When u chose ultrabeat u need to click on 'multi output'

  • yeah nice and dirty

  • Great video, learned alot.

I wounder if I can and should mix other sounds in my ultrabeat like that?

  • Wow thanks again

    Great video man!

How about a slightly more in depth mixing video for us music nerds out here?hahaha

It would be very interesting to learn more of your technique as far as mixing various sounds like strings, and bass, different fx...all tht cool stuff ya know.

Anyway your videos are appreciated keep em commin

    Peace

  • Nice tutorial its helped but what do i do once its mixed down and i want to change the drum pattern for a different part of the track?

  • Very good with the teaching im looking to improve my mixes so any more videos to do with mixing would be really good

  • props

  • Great vid mate... you are very clear about what u are clicking on unlike a lot of others...

  • Hi - Great video, really helpful. If you have time, could I request a tutorial on how to Master the final song in Logic. i.e. What effects chain you use on the main output channel when you are ready for mixdown. Cheers

  • A very helpful video, thanks. Most of the time i find that i know what i want to do in my head but when it comes to the technical side i don't know how to pull it off. This helped a lot

  • I appreciate this man. Alot of useful advice.

  • Awesome. The beginning is all I needed. I was looking for ways to separate my kick and snare from the rest of the ultrabeat sounds. Thanks so much for the video!

  • im been trying mix my drums and it seems to be going into the red all the time

i noticed you had not moved the fader on the kick how come it wasn't going into the red? Did you have the level of the kick turned down on the ultra beat?

  • great :D awesome stuff :)

  • great job man

    keep it up!

  • I Love BEEF!:)

  • good stuff, ever try Logic's SubBass under Specialty for kicks? can also add that low end beef or punch

  • Cheers for the vids mate. Really good and useful. Keep them coming! Dave, if you have a Mac i would heavily recommend you moving to Logic for the reasons it is such good software and runs so smoothly on mac as it was designed for the platform!

  • really like your videos, i try to make the same sort of music, more sort of french touch sort of style though, but i love what you do.

i use cubase 5, and i've never used logic pro, is it alot better? what do you think?

    thanks,

    dave

  • Sweet! This answers a lot of questions for me. Now I gots the punch baby!

  • Excellent, very clear. Would like to hear some of your tunes.

  • I like your advice over frequency range and an individual's taste. I get worried about frequencies and need to remember to go by ears mainly. Thanks

  • why put reverb on send instead of bus? and whats that lovely little sound between 7:08 and 7:09?

    cheers

  • No, I realise that, hence I said "I don't mean to be rude". Sigh.

  • @soundsLogical good work mate on the video, hope to see more tutorials from you in the near future! thanks!

  • @pAAnda12music nobody's being rude to you, show soundsLogical some respect. He's doing all of us a favour here teaching us, you ungrateful little shit

  • No thank you for giving us all this help! xD

  • I bought it. Search google for Camel Audio.

  • There aren't any "dubstep plugins". You can make dubstep with any synthesizer, plugins etc. You just have to be creative. If you own Logic you have everything you need to make good music, except maybe you could with some extra drum samples.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't mean to be rude, but er... try searching google for drum samples.

  • No probs. I'm only a bloke though.Ha. I also use separate Kick/ Snare/ Hi Hat as different lanes on the arrange using 'New Track with same channel assignment' etc. This saves using multiple instances of Ultrabeat. Thanks again for the sound tips. Marmite on toast rather than a beer : )

  • Thanks. Always great tuts.Also...You can just press the ' + ' at the left of the mixer , above the meter, to bring in a mono output, which you assign in the same way as when getting new tracks set up , instead of having to open so many stereo outputs. The ' +' on the parent Ultrabeat is for stereo output

  • A beer for this man! Woman? Person! That's a really handy tip, I like to keep my mixer tidy and those redundant stereo tracks are a pain. Cheers!

  • Is there any advantage over step inputting the drum pattern into Ultrabeat with the multioutputs like you did, over actually using a different channel for each element? I prefer to play my drums on pads, so have a channel for the kick, channel for the snare etc. This is just personal preference or am i losing out on anything?

  • No, no real advantage I suppose, except ease of programming drums. It also keeps your arrange page neat, but that's only really a concern for OCDers like me :)

  • Nice tutorial, just wondering if you keep almost all of the low frequency of your kick does that not interfere with the low frequency of the bass? because I've heard other producers cut all most all of the bass up to about 80hz from their kicks. how do you get around the interference, if there is any, cheers man keep up the tutorials their grear!

  • That depends. Some producers (often of bass heavy genres) like their kicks to sit above the bass in the frequency range, some prefer below. If you're having trouble with these two interacting, search youtube for tutorials on "Sidechaining" the kick and bass. There's loads of them.

In the end, the use of all these techniques come down to taste and the feel of the individual track. There's no single "right" way to do anything.

  • another great informative video, thanks!! keep them coming!

I was just wondering what the difference is if the reverb is on sends or the channel?

  • The only difference is that if you put the reverb on a bus, you can send multiple sounds to the same reverb unit. Since Space Designer is so resource-hungry, that's quite handy cos you don't want more than a few Space Designers on one project - unless you have a beast of a computer :D

  • Haha, no worries man, I find your videos really useful. Im doing A level music tech, so this keeps me one step ahead of the class :D And I really enjoy making Dubstep. Im getting a few of my own tunes together, I'll hook you up when they're all done if you're interested :D

  • Yea man of course! I might start putting some of my tunes up here, although I rarely finish them and it's even rarer when I'm happy with them.

It would be cool to make a little scene where people put their tunes up on youtube and explain how they got certain sounds. I think we'd all learn a lot that way.

  • I also find it really hard to finish my tunes. unfortunately school tunes take over personal ones, and I look forward to hearing your stuff. When I finally get my own mac, ill be more focused.

I think that would be a great idea, for viewers to put their tunes up :D we could see how people do thing differently, when aiming for the same result.

  • Yippie! I've been waiting for this. Thanks man. :D

  • Cheers Man, this was really helpfull :D

  • Wow, that must be my fastest comment ever! Cheers dude, glad you liked it. Bit long, but ah well, I couldn't be bothered to re-record it.
