There's a book I read entitled "Killing Bono". Is that where this band got the name inspiration from?

Yeah, that's the one. Authored by Neil McCormick.  I think the book title is different outside of the U.S./North America. I own the book and the title is simply "Killing Bono". "I was Bono's Doppelganger" was an alternative title elsewhere.
