@MasTriste Wow, I'm not sure how you can call Stockton a dirty player. Except that maybe you're bitter that this shot went down. He's a classy man, and a competitive athlete. Malone isn't dirty, either, but calling Stockton dirty is just... asinine.

I think the NBA as a whole is drifting away from traditional centers, though. There's honestly only two or three legit centers in the NBA right now. The NBA is getting smaller and quicker.

5:20. Malone BEAR HUGS Drexler, who is supposed to be on Stockton. Fucking cheaters. That's why you don't have any rings, and why Malone couldn't win with LA.
@emcitymisfit rockets were lucky that jordan left for baseball. that's the only reason hakeem has rings.
also, the sonics would have knocked off the rockets in 94 and 95 if they hadn't fucked up early. they owned houston back then. just owned them. that's the whole reason why the barkley trade happened.
@lakerfiend You're right about the Sonics owning us,but we still beat them, plain and simple.
As for Jordan, check the facts. Houston was the only team in the league with a winning record against MJ during those championship years, and the Bulls never had an answer for Olajuwon. It was a favorable matchup for us, and at the very least, we would have had a shot at winning those rings. Better than the craptacular Jazz.
@emcitymisfit "You're right about the Sonics owning us,but we still beat them, plain and simple."
No. The Rockets did not beat Seattle. Not the champinship (*) Rockets. Seattle owned them, as proven in the 96 playoffs. That's why Houston traded for Barkley.
The Rockets were real lucky to miss Seattle in 94 and 95.
@emcitymisfit How many times did the Rockets face the Dynasty Bulls in the Finals?
Are you asserting that the Orlando Magic and Knicks are the same level as those Bulls teams?
I know that Houston fans aren't the most logical or intelligent, but this is rather sad. Tell me, are you a ClutchFans poster? What an asylum/zoo that place is.
@sunshinebutmorerain I'm a Knicks fan and no way were the Knicks on the same level as the Bulls. Bulls had Jordan who was still at his prime (like he ever fell off), Pippen who could do just about everything from score to steal and rebound and block shots, and a super emerging 6th man in Toni Kukoc who could rest michael or pippen. No one was on the Bull's level, Jazz were the closest
@emcitymisfit 1997 or 98 Jazz>>>>1994&95 Rockets. Too bad about MJ, but the Jazz were the second best team overall that decade. And those Finals teams for Utah were scarier than either of the Houston title winning teams. They pushed the Bulls to their very limits, something no other team did in the Finals.
Malone was, IMO, second only to Michael that decade. Malone would have won 3-4 MVPs, been the league's scoring champ 7 times, and won back to back titles if not for MJ. Poor Karl.
@brettfavre4MVP drexler losing the ball in the final minutes to tie the game 98-98, is inexcusable, nobody is perfect, utah was too good that year, its so sad stockton and malone were the best duo, they went together like filet mignon and a baked potato. Malone is the Dan Marino for the NBA, his stats did not equate toa ring, he was a real great. David Robinson, Olajuwon are all greats, but malone showed it team wise and stats wise.
"Us"?!? You were on the team? No wonder you're so biased.
As far as Houston's record against Chi, keep in mind that Utah also had a very good record against the Bulls from Jordan's drafting onward; I think it was a winning record as well.
They also swept Chicago in the regular season of 98. Which kind of disproves the notion that regular season results dictate playoff W/Ls. But don't let cause and effect, or base logic get in your way.
@sunshinebutmorerain see, now you're not even being totally fair -- im not talking about drafting jordan, im talking about the 6 championship years. hakeem owned the bulls. hack a shaq doesnt work on hakeem, and any finals matchup would have been won by the rockets, especially in 94/95 when the rockets were at the top of their game.
@emcitymisfit "see, now you're not even being totally fair -- im not talking about drafting jordan, im talking about the 6 championship years"
As I said, the regular season is not the same as a Finals matchup. In the 98 season, Utah swept Chi. By your standard for Houston, that means that Utah should have easily beaten the Bulls in the Finals.
@emcitymisfit "hack a shaq doesnt work on hakeem, and any finals matchup would have been won by the rockets,"
So the 95 Rockets would beat the 96 Bulls? How about the 97 Rockets versus the 97 Bulls?
Further, beyond hypotheticals, the Sonics owned the mid-90s Rockets. Very lucky to miss them.
Championships require luck. Houston was very lucky, particularly in 95. For instance, both the Suns and Jazz -- AKA Houston's toughest opponents in those playoffs -- had key injuries when playing Houston.
@emcitymisfit "especially in 94/95 when the rockets were at the top of their game."
So the 95 Rockets, you assert, are better than any version of the Chicago Bulls?
It's arguable that Houston wasn't better than a healthy Utah (no starting Center for the playoffs) or Phoenix (Manning out, Barkley with a messed up knee for the last few games against Hou), let alone Chicago at their peak.
The Jazz came within 9 points of winning two championships over Chicago. They were easily Chi's toughest Finals matchup, so the idea that they were "crap" is pretty laughable. All but 3 games in two years came down to the final seconds between those two teams.
So if Utah was crap, so was Chicago. Pathetic "thinking".
And even moreso considering that statement is coming from a Rockets fan. By your own logic, the HOF Rockets=Beneath Shit.
Although I was an MJ fan at this time since I was in my mid-late teens, I always felt bad for Stockton and Malone, because had they not been cursed by having to play against the likes of Michael Jordan the Bulls, I'm 100% they would have won either one if not two of the times they reached the Finals back to back.
Stockton was a phenomenal player, and one of the BEST at his position, not only that, but his shooting was absolutely phenomenal, loved watching him and Malone as a duo.
It looked for sure like this series was going to Game 7 with the Rockets up by 14 with 6 minutes to play! The way the Jazz came back to break Houston's heart was sweet, after the Rockets had broke their hearts in 1994 and 1995!! To see Mario Ellie's face seconds after Stockton's shot is a picture worth a thousand words! I'm not a Jazz fan, nor a Rockets hater, but I love seeing a team get sweet revenge on another after getting their hearts ripped out a few times!
I'm not going to lie, I was a HUUUGE Rockets fan at this point in time and hated the Jazz, but they nasty. Stockton and Malone were skilled as hell. Made everything look easy.
why does it Seem to me like the Rockets Threw this game????at 338 the whole team gives him a open run to the basket with 22 seconds left??dam they got i dont know who on em wtf rockets ??
@Hoopfanify I don't know if you are agreeing or being sarcastic...but a push off, or an elbow "nudge" is not even in the same realm as physically lifting and carrying another player to another location (as malone did to drexler)
@tnc7685 Yea i was serious i was just pointing out that in the 90's there were alot of no calls weird huh? But you are right i never noticed it before but malone did indeed bear hug drexler
@tnc7685 Watch it closely. Malone didn't "bear hug him and carry him away." Look at Drexler's feet. They were pushing against Malone. And not only that, when the Jazz started into their motions, when Stockton broke away, Drexler went the opposite way of Stockton. Watch from 5:25 in the video.
that team of rockets was one of the best teams of 90's after that clyde drexler and akeem olajuwon, was retired!! love utah of the end of the 90's they deserved a ring, but karl malone couldn't handle the preassure of the bulls
Stockton and Malone are some who are among the best in nba in history to fail in winning a championship...and the only reason for them not winning one is Jordan...so I think they must be proud...at least they know even if they have not won one they are still hall of famers rather than have one but not remembered by even one fan or by record book.
So my good friend mikeyvp finally told me how he started dunking, he s shorter than me, he s only 5 6 but leaps over 9 inches higher! Apparently he used the program over at 50inch vertical[dot]com and gained over 15 inches in his vertical jump!
Utah Jazz vs Houston Rockets 1997 (Game 6 West Conf Finals)
@trancexprep84 I know... what happened after Stockton made that runner? The Rockets have the ball with the shot clock turned off... and suddenly the Jazz have the ball with 2.8 left?
I remember watching this game as a teenager and thinking it was the most amazing Jazz moment I ever witnessed! Nostalgia is like the best comfort food.
this was the moment of truth for Utah, they walked the walk, it was so sad to seem them lose to chicago, stockton had ice in his veins. that previous year, the glove made the winning layup for the sonics, utah almost won three straight. talk about not losing your composure for utah, utah understood the concept of team, and putting egos aside, houston pulled a portland trailblazer choke, drexler at least won two years before with the rockets.
utah played such a gr8 game, its so hard to win on the road, jerry sloan is a class act and hope deron williams and boozer can guide him, chicago had a lot of bullshit, and pippen isnt shit without jordan.
i miss the nba on nbc, nba on abc sucks, basketball is not the same without the glove, barkley, malone, stockton, drexler, fuck lebron and dwayne wade, im old school this is basketball at some of its best.
thanks man, this was one of the greatest shot in utah history, its ironic that paxon with the three in the 93 finals ruins it and in 97 stockton is the party pooper to charles barkley and company. absolutely wonderful shot, no matter how good the defense, that ball had arch and parabolic motion great stance by stockton, this was bittersweet, what the jazz had to sweat, its so sad that utah went to the 92 wcf, 94, 96, 97, 98 and came up short. they had 60+ wins several times
this was the best moment of my childhood. you can always argue about a moving screen and people always seem to find ways to argue against the Jazz, but when it comes don to the last few sconds of any team the refs always just let them play.
@kalloused utah deserved it, derek fishers idol is john stockton and fisher was a jazz for one season 2006-2007. this was a breath of relief. jazz should have won the finals, its a shame for stockton and malone, the best duo to never have a ring, its like dan marino not having a SB ring or Barry Bonds not having a World Series ring.
Because Drexler was trying to get out of the mioving screen by Malone, but Malone blocked him with his big body, preventing Drexler to come near Stockton!! Drexler's a SHOOTING guard, Malone's POWER forward, go figure!!!!!
After I saw this game I didn't feel bad of some of the calls the Jazz didn't get in the finals!! After this one, they shouldn't be complaining at calls, just play ball and let the refs handle it!!
You're absolutely right. Malone moved that screen for almost 3 seconds without the one of the refs even spotting it. It can be that the refs themselves were in such tension that they weren't lookin or they just wouldn't give these fouls at the last second (1998 MJ's last shot, if it even WERE a foul, which I doubt). Oh, well. It would've been great watchin Jordan's and Pippen's Bulls play the finals against Barkeyl's, Drexler's and Hakeem's Rockets b/c Houston had won 2 rings in MJ's absence....
observing malone again, its ridiculous how he managed to get away with that shit, i mean he was LITERALLY holding drexler and illegally succesfully made sure that he didnt get around him. But, yeah the refs were probably not paying attention.
I don't see the people complaining about Malone's "moving screen" also complaining about that phantom Ostertag foul on Barkley a minute earlier. Get over it.
Yep, it was a phantom foul on Ostertag, mooseclamps!! But it wasn't a complete phantom foul!! If you look closely, Barkley's clearly pushed off balance by Stockton!! The same kind of foul he made against the Bulls at the end of the 1st half of game 3 in the '98 finals after the Ron Haroer steal in the last seconds. The refs made a good foul call, but they just didn't call it on the right man!!
Ok, if you are watching CLOSELY, you will notice that Stockton was on Barkley's back side and a step or two away from him. Barkley fell to the ground toward John's direction. If you are trying to pin the foul to someone other than Ostertag, then it would might have been Hornacek.
the shot haunted the rockets for years after this. would have loved to see a rockets/bulls finals. even with the rockets age i still think rockets would have put up a good fight. would have been a great to see those two teams against each other in the finals.
ya it did the next season the rockets had almost the same team, but we barly made the playoffs and guess what we played the jazz in the first round. but clyde and hakeem just did not have ne more and malony lost his touch from 3pt range. matt that year his rookie year was just a product of the shorted 3pt shoot.
@thanhsao anybody that says Malone and Stockton are boring are just plain stupid and know nothing about what the game of basketball is all about...today there is NO loyalty from players to their franchise and fans...Malone and Stockton are great exemple especially Stockton who never wore any other uniform

No way Stockton is the best point guard ever! His credentials dont touch the Magic Man's. At best i'd put him 3rd all time among point guards, behind Magic and Oscar Robertson.
Ummm...Magic Johnson? 5 NBA titles, 3 MVP's, 3 Finals MVP's...probably the #2 player ever. Stockton better like being the #2 PG ever...because Magic is the GOAT

5:20. Malone BEAR HUGS Drexler, who is supposed to be on Stockton. Fucking cheaters. That's why you don't have any rings, and why Malone couldn't win with LA.
emcitymisfit 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit rockets were lucky that jordan left for baseball. that's the only reason hakeem has rings.
also, the sonics would have knocked off the rockets in 94 and 95 if they hadn't fucked up early. they owned houston back then. just owned them. that's the whole reason why the barkley trade happened.
lakerfiend 1 year ago
@lakerfiend You're right about the Sonics owning us,but we still beat them, plain and simple.
As for Jordan, check the facts. Houston was the only team in the league with a winning record against MJ during those championship years, and the Bulls never had an answer for Olajuwon. It was a favorable matchup for us, and at the very least, we would have had a shot at winning those rings. Better than the craptacular Jazz.
emcitymisfit 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit "You're right about the Sonics owning us,but we still beat them, plain and simple."
No. The Rockets did not beat Seattle. Not the champinship (*) Rockets. Seattle owned them, as proven in the 96 playoffs. That's why Houston traded for Barkley.
The Rockets were real lucky to miss Seattle in 94 and 95.

@sunshinebutmorerain oh. maybe we should have bear hugged them more. piss off. how many rings with "asterisks" do the jazz have?
emcitymisfit 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit How many times did the Rockets face the Dynasty Bulls in the Finals?
Are you asserting that the Orlando Magic and Knicks are the same level as those Bulls teams?
I know that Houston fans aren't the most logical or intelligent, but this is rather sad. Tell me, are you a ClutchFans poster? What an asylum/zoo that place is.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@sunshinebutmorerain I'm a Knicks fan and no way were the Knicks on the same level as the Bulls. Bulls had Jordan who was still at his prime (like he ever fell off), Pippen who could do just about everything from score to steal and rebound and block shots, and a super emerging 6th man in Toni Kukoc who could rest michael or pippen. No one was on the Bull's level, Jazz were the closest
karanparekh929 7 months ago
@emcitymisfit 1997 or 98 Jazz>>>>1994&95 Rockets. Too bad about MJ, but the Jazz were the second best team overall that decade. And those Finals teams for Utah were scarier than either of the Houston title winning teams. They pushed the Bulls to their very limits, something no other team did in the Finals.
Malone was, IMO, second only to Michael that decade. Malone would have won 3-4 MVPs, been the league's scoring champ 7 times, and won back to back titles if not for MJ. Poor Karl.
brettfavre4MVP 1 year ago 2
@brettfavre4MVP drexler losing the ball in the final minutes to tie the game 98-98, is inexcusable, nobody is perfect, utah was too good that year, its so sad stockton and malone were the best duo, they went together like filet mignon and a baked potato. Malone is the Dan Marino for the NBA, his stats did not equate toa ring, he was a real great. David Robinson, Olajuwon are all greats, but malone showed it team wise and stats wise.

karanparekh929 7 months ago
@emcitymisfit . "It was a favorable matchup for us"
But don't let cause and effect, or base logic get in your way.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@sunshinebutmorerain see, now you're not even being totally fair -- im not talking about drafting jordan, im talking about the 6 championship years. hakeem owned the bulls. hack a shaq doesnt work on hakeem, and any finals matchup would have been won by the rockets, especially in 94/95 when the rockets were at the top of their game.
emcitymisfit 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit "see, now you're not even being totally fair -- im not talking about drafting jordan, im talking about the 6 championship years"
As I said, the regular season is not the same as a Finals matchup. In the 98 season, Utah swept Chi. By your standard for Houston, that means that Utah should have easily beaten the Bulls in the Finals.
Oops.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit "hack a shaq doesnt work on hakeem, and any finals matchup would have been won by the rockets,"
So the 95 Rockets would beat the 96 Bulls? How about the 97 Rockets versus the 97 Bulls?
Further, beyond hypotheticals, the Sonics owned the mid-90s Rockets. Very lucky to miss them.
Championships require luck. Houston was very lucky, particularly in 95. For instance, both the Suns and Jazz -- AKA Houston's toughest opponents in those playoffs -- had key injuries when playing Houston.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit "especially in 94/95 when the rockets were at the top of their game."
So the 95 Rockets, you assert, are better than any version of the Chicago Bulls?
It's arguable that Houston wasn't better than a healthy Utah (no starting Center for the playoffs) or Phoenix (Manning out, Barkley with a messed up knee for the last few games against Hou), let alone Chicago at their peak.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@emcitymisfit "Better than the craptacular Jazz."

TrueSephiros 1 year ago
It looked for sure like this series was going to Game 7 with the Rockets up by 14 with 6 minutes to play! The way the Jazz came back to break Houston's heart was sweet, after the Rockets had broke their hearts in 1994 and 1995!! To see Mario Ellie's face seconds after Stockton's shot is a picture worth a thousand words! I'm not a Jazz fan, nor a Rockets hater, but I love seeing a team get sweet revenge on another after getting their hearts ripped out a few times!

Hoopfanify 1 year ago
@Hoopfanify I don't know if you are agreeing or being sarcastic...but a push off, or an elbow "nudge" is not even in the same realm as physically lifting and carrying another player to another location (as malone did to drexler)

@tnc7685 Watch it closely. Malone didn't "bear hug him and carry him away." Look at Drexler's feet. They were pushing against Malone. And not only that, when the Jazz started into their motions, when Stockton broke away, Drexler went the opposite way of Stockton. Watch from 5:25 in the video.

this was the moment of truth for Utah, they walked the walk, it was so sad to seem them lose to chicago, stockton had ice in his veins. that previous year, the glove made the winning layup for the sonics, utah almost won three straight. talk about not losing your composure for utah, utah understood the concept of team, and putting egos aside, houston pulled a portland trailblazer choke, drexler at least won two years before with the rockets.

thanks man, this was one of the greatest shot in utah history, its ironic that paxon with the three in the 93 finals ruins it and in 97 stockton is the party pooper to charles barkley and company. absolutely wonderful shot, no matter how good the defense, that ball had arch and parabolic motion great stance by stockton, this was bittersweet, what the jazz had to sweat, its so sad that utah went to the 92 wcf, 94, 96, 97, 98 and came up short. they had 60+ wins several times

Malone was moving, but where the hell was Drexler going? Nowhere near the ball, totally going the wrong way.
kkbieber365 2 years ago
Because Drexler was trying to get out of the mioving screen by Malone, but Malone blocked him with his big body, preventing Drexler to come near Stockton!! Drexler's a SHOOTING guard, Malone's POWER forward, go figure!!!!!
After I saw this game I didn't feel bad of some of the calls the Jazz didn't get in the finals!! After this one, they shouldn't be complaining at calls, just play ball and let the refs handle it!!
GREGNASTY 2 years ago
HUGE Moving screen by malone wtf
bashmo 2 years ago
You're absolutely right. Malone moved that screen for almost 3 seconds without the one of the refs even spotting it. It can be that the refs themselves were in such tension that they weren't lookin or they just wouldn't give these fouls at the last second (1998 MJ's last shot, if it even WERE a foul, which I doubt). Oh, well. It would've been great watchin Jordan's and Pippen's Bulls play the finals against Barkeyl's, Drexler's and Hakeem's Rockets b/c Houston had won 2 rings in MJ's absence....
GREGNASTY 2 years ago
observing malone again, its ridiculous how he managed to get away with that shit, i mean he was LITERALLY holding drexler and illegally succesfully made sure that he didnt get around him. But, yeah the refs were probably not paying attention.
bashmo 2 years ago
Epic. Stockton forever. Jazz forever.
BinkyTheDoormat628 2 years ago
I don't see the people complaining about Malone's "moving screen" also complaining about that phantom Ostertag foul on Barkley a minute earlier. Get over it.
mooseclamps 2 years ago
Yep, it was a phantom foul on Ostertag, mooseclamps!! But it wasn't a complete phantom foul!! If you look closely, Barkley's clearly pushed off balance by Stockton!! The same kind of foul he made against the Bulls at the end of the 1st half of game 3 in the '98 finals after the Ron Haroer steal in the last seconds. The refs made a good foul call, but they just didn't call it on the right man!!
GREGNASTY 2 years ago
Ok, if you are watching CLOSELY, you will notice that Stockton was on Barkley's back side and a step or two away from him. Barkley fell to the ground toward John's direction. If you are trying to pin the foul to someone other than Ostertag, then it would might have been Hornacek.
