The car they needed to compare the NSX with was the 328GTS/GTB, its target. This Testarossa is between '86 to '91, two mirror car with 390BHP. The 328 had 270BHP and about the same in performance as to this early NSX. In this comparison they used the Testarossa (a heavy car) since the acceleration of the NSX is close up but there's a point when the Testarossa will leave it in the dust. 328 and NSX are very similar in acceleration but the 328 feels old next to it. I owned the three of them.
This comparison is BS The Testarossa was a vehicle that was fazed out in 1996 and was developed in 1980. A better comparison would have been a Ferrari 360 Modena which was in production between the years 99-05 same as NSX.
@Discofreestyle The fact is the Testarossa was still developed in the 80's and looking at the video again it's not a Testa TR which was quicker meaning this car in the video was probably a late 80's model. A F335 or a 360 which where design and marketed in the same era would have been a better comparison it's what I'm trying to get at since it would be kinda dumb to compare a F430 to NSX even a type R.
@cerebraldamage i think the video was made in early 90s, the 355 wasn't around until 94, meaning in 91/92 the Testarossa was the comparable car from Ferrari.
Regardless, it's pretty clear they are not trying to hide anything. At 2.44 they show a list of all the cars they have timed. I'm positive if the 355 were in production when they made this video it would be on here.
@Discofreestyle the improved testarossa the 512TR came out about 1992, so that would narrow this video down to likely between 90-92. The Ferrari 348tb (shown in the drag race times list) would have been a more likely rival for the NSX since they came out at the same time and were more similar in concept.
Am proud owner of Subie Imprezza RS; GC8; Original body shape of Ralley car. In storage, cuz $, but will put a worthy engine in this lite GC8 (Well under 3,000 lb). U.K. guys have been getting LOW 3sec 0-60mph, way long a go. Now I just drive a Forester XT 13.8sec Quarter 5.3sec 0-60mph and 1.3sec 0-30mph (most ferrais were doing 1.9 @ that time).-Car&Driver Archieve - I am just glad that I am not that guy next door, who knows price of everything, but value of nothing. Future goal NSX & MR2s
@benzbubblecat Did you notice at the launch, that the back end of ferrari swerved a bit side to side, due to rotational engine torque? That instablility caused some what of peg leg tire marks and poor launch. That's why I love transverse M.R. so much, like MR2s. It always shifts equal weight to BOTH rear tires at acceleration(useful in powering out of corner?). That's why NSX beats Modena on the track. If Volvo can mount their INLINE-6 sideways, you can easily mount v8 or Even v10 sideways.
@sainttuber i agree, however i think Ferraris reasoning was to concentrate the mass along the longitudinal axis of the car, to improve overall dynamics, simplify damping etc.
i personally like the NSX more, since i prefer handling over pretty much everything. it's fairly easy to squeeze more power out of a car, but it's very difficult to make it handle perfectly.
@immelman29 For some reason, I seem to be alone, even among the knowns, when it comes to this issue. Longitudinal weight dist. doesn't really matter, in this case cuz, the engine top(remember V shape) jutts out toward outside anyways, especally at top, where center of gravity matters the MOST. So the Lambo have figured this out finally, and put narrower V-engine in the Gallardo than Marci, for better handeling. There REALLY are such hush hush in this business, on few things like this.
@sainttuber You really think you know something there don't you. Go do a bit more reading and see if the bullshit you just typed can be found anywhere else.
@hunghuge12 Humbled is I. Cuz I pointed out EXACTLY where to verfy the numbers & figures, Yet you claim there's nowhere else you can find this. R U blind, or just a nasty fucking retard? No U only come across as world class asshole, cuz you are OVERLY essentric and intelligent. After all, you disproved every one of my statement by providing facts and details of your own!!!!! Tell you what, I got a hobby that's a lot more suitable for beings like you. You need to collect some barbie dolls.
I have a NSX and it does have a way nicer interior than that ferrari and the handling is far supior. I do like the ferraris back end better but that about it.
i think this was one of Tsuchiya's first appearances on this show..

@bbirdman1981 Sounds like a loosing argument. NSX also had better engineers. But only people of SUBSTANCE and not flash would know that.
