  • I have my Hammond 44 for a month or so, now...and am LOVING it. Wonderful insrument. Just took it to the Garden State Harmonica Festival in New Jersey where I dueted with a couple of my chromatic playing friends. Mine had a flat C - I managed to have it opened up and its reeds tuned by one of our whiz harmonica repair/tuning guys. I'm learning the breath changes - different from a chromatic but working on it. Only wish I could achieve the mellow sound Chris gets here - MY kind of music. :)

  • I need to find out if this is the 44 or 44 HP? Am about to order one and LOVE this particular sound. What do you have it plugged into if I might ask? Have been listening to many clips of both models - think I've narrowed it down to the 44 and just can't tell by the vid if this is the basic model or the 'brighter' HP?

  • Man, I'd love to hear that through a wah-pedal...to simulate what harmonica players do with their cupped hands.

  • I won my first Ebay auction about 15 years ago ( wow! has it been that long?)- a red metal Hohner Melodica for $13. That thing could fool the best listener if it was sent through some effects. They are great for thickening up a mix or a solo.

My latest reed wonder came when I looked on 'Spellsaver' for a mispelled accordion. Sure enough I lucked out- got an ultra rare 'T Shape' accordion for $34 plus another $30 to have it shipped ( poor guy spent $42 according to the invoice). I'll post soon.

  • I just bought one a month ago, and I must say, it is worth every cent! The sound cannot be compared with a $30 melodica. :)

  • this sound exactly as my daughter €20 instrument, only the player is better! hehehe! wasted money

  • Que lindo!

  • I don't understand why the guys with the guitar is mooving so...? I tested this melodion It's realy great, i need to get one now, I want to check the sound with Overdrive and ther effects haha!

  • This melodion sounds really nice.

  • Haa Chris always get's the cool toys!

  • Its worth it.Its a high quality Instrument. You cant compare that to cheap stuff.

  • Cool!

  • the best!!!!!!!

  • the best always costs a little more--it's worth it.

  • Well no, cause the sound is just the same as my €30 Belcanto. It might go out of tune after one year but I can buy a truckload of those things for the price the Melodion 44 is going for.

  • well, no the sound isn't the same-but happy trails anyway.

    peace!

  • @srmqzq haha boom roasted... but quite honestly.. i just bought a $30 pink melodica.. and i think it sounds pretty great especially coming with a hard case that was pink.. the deal was great. With the increase in price of a melodica or melodion, does it come down to sound quality, or can it come down to the ability to more easily play the notes? Because as a begginer it is hard to play bottom chords with an overlaying sound on top. Is easier to produce louder chords on an expensive one?

  • @srmqzq Thank you! I've been looking for playing just like yours since I became fascinated with Suzuki's melodion at SPAH this past summer. They didn't have the 44 there but I saw the brochure. Since I play piano/keyboards and chromatic harmonicas this seems a natural for me, but I've been sorely disappointed with the sound of melodicas before. I can assure anyone here that the sound is most assuredly not 'the same', although I still buy Hohner CX-12 chromatics and love them. I'M convinced. :)

  • Haha, I just found Belcantos going for 18EUR new, but I'm just ordered a Hohner student melodica for around the same price.

The sound quality is definitely not the same.

  • or retune it

  • @awesomewelles90

you tell me how to tune a belcanto melodica, all the reeds concist of one large piece of chromed metal

  • google it

  • @HammondB200 - that's WHY this is so different. I've had mine opened up...it has individual bronze phosphor reeds - we compared them to a cross between a chromatic harmonica and an accordion. The electronics are all in the end cap. It's wonderfully designed inside as well as out...nothing remotely similar to cheap melodicas. Sure, you can buy plenty of them for the cost of this - but you're not getting anything remotely the same as this instrument, or the same sound...Apples to oranges.

  • €500 right?

    Too freakin expensive

  • it's $550 now...still too fking expensive :)

  • @HammondB200 and IMightBeJesus69 Priced any high-end or good chromatic harmonicas lately? Take a look at the costs of a Sirius, Fabulous or Gregoire Maret Chromatic (Suzuki) or a Meisterklasse (Hohner). The 44 is also a free-reed instrument.
