This man had experienced more in his forty one years than I have in my thirty four. Indeed, more than I ever want to. However, this drove him to turn the most unenviable task into the most profound achievement of the C20th: Turning a colonial era slum into one of the most affluent, sophisticated and cosmoplitan socities on the face of the Earth today. Who has the guts to do this today in Jamaica or Haiti?
London kids lack male role models? Look no further than LKY! He's mine.

There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist
This knowledgeable woman, Top TV financial journalist , Maria Bartiromo host of CNBC's Closing Bell and top-rated The Wall Street Journal, was in Singapore to host CNBC's 9th Asia Business Leaders Awards. She exclaimed that "Coming to Singapore, I find this economy, so dynamic. 17 (17.9%) per cent economic growth in the first half of 2010, new areas of vibrancy whether it's tourism health, care, financial services. this kind of stuff turns me on."
@ttiiyy , I doubt that majority of Malays want Singapore to be part of Malaysia again but I do believe that within 25 years Singapore will beg to be part of Malaysia. In mext 25 years(assuming on rate it is moving) Malaysia will be fully developed and rich country and Singapore roles as transit for Malaysia raw materials will diminished. The reason Singapore is at today stage and status was because of M'sian Goods and Raw Materials. I love to see All SEA united under a Confederation of SEA.
@Pashtunlad I respect your opinion. But it's just like European Union. It's always good to talk about equality and union on papers. But in reality, human beings are just too greedy to carry out the idea. That's all.
@ttiiyy In that case then your assumption that the Malays want Singapore back is just as baseless or just an imigination spewed by your prejudiceness. I love Singapore & Malaysia Equally. I also understand the pain of being separated by human drawn borders. My homeland Afghanistan was stolen by th British and today part of our land make up half of Pakistan.
Yeap another wild dream indeed .If fact Spore did voice of joining Malaysia in the future but it was not well receive by the citizens.
Spore is lining herself towards that direction. Probably when Anwar take over PM, that can be if the terms of agreement is favourably on Spore side. Anwar anyway is often feature and admired in Spore local media. That small land is just doing.
that.
It is Spore knocking on the door and not welcum yet...never.
The Associated Press 16 Aug 2010 said tht Singapore regularly ranks near the top in expatriate quality of life surveys, and the govt expects the economy to grow as much as 15 % this year as trade, finance and tourism boom after the global downturn. Foreigners from developed countries are drawn to jobs in finance, shipping and at corporate regional headquarters

In the tiny red spot with no natural resources at all, Singapore can transform and developed into the most developed country and higher standard of living in Asia under the hand of Lee n PAP, I wonder what if Lee Kuan Yew is the Prime Minister take charge of whole Malaysia (ehem-just forget about the malay rights at this point of time), surely Malaysia / Singapore could become aSupernation as good as U.S? heheehe ..wild dream..
The Washington-based 2010 Gallup Poll conducted a global survey in 148 countries n discovered that Singapore remains No 1 immigration hot spot for the 2nd successive yr. That means our 4.8 mil would increase by 219% if everyone was allowed to move here.
This is a global world, people now know Singapore and its outstanding values and rankings in an educated world.
bagi melayu muslim anjing yg x suka cina, lebih baik kamu semua keluar malaysia, pergi duduk negara yg x ada cina.
1Malaysia=lancao aku.
Apa tu 1Malaysia? 1Malaysia tapi 2 tanah...1 tanah utk melayu muslim anjing; 1 tanah pula utk cina/india.
Apa tu 1Malaysia?
HELLO - this wendyneo have posted so many anti PAP videos mainly because she had been JAILED for disrespect of the judiciary . Moreover , she boasted on her sites that she had dual citizenship of AUSTRALIAN and SINGAPOREAN. Not only that , she even challenge the authority to catch her , so basically, she is going nuts. She thought she had champion for the rights of singaporean but actually she is the lacky of the opposition or you can call running DOG . She is a rambo , so cocky, arrogant, &suck
@darkgodnaar U gotta a mental problem? Looks like you're kept in the dark of how your country is now. The exchange rate betw Singapore's and yours tell a huge diff. It's just one problem for you..want us to tell you more?? and make you feel more of a fool?
Malaysia is in a class of their own. Even Japan, S korea, Taiwan xchange rate is below Sinpore. It is not the xchange rate that matters , it is the real value that matters. half million Sing dollar cannot buy a bungalow in Spore but half million Malaysian ringgit can buy a luxirous bungalow plus extra more .
Work harder before u can afford a bungalow. Now who is the real fool.
Hoo Hoo the higher u go the greater u fall and more expensive u will be. Work till u 65 now, then 85 in next ....Among the hundreds of Malaysian PR , onli a small number took Spore citizenship. The larger number want to live and remain in Malaysia.
Sporeans and Spore is a first world loser. Foreigners are waiting for big fat profit and retire at their homeland while Sporeans work and work till dead.Retire inside the grave.
@ilovecorn97 Exactly . In theory everyone knows that one makes an analysis and comparity with similar-sized objects and not between a big object and a small object. It would be considered a failed project.
AGREED...Peanuts with peanuts, apples with apples. So Spore should compare herself with Hong Kong, Qatar, UAE or Monaco...etc Spore are just peanut and should not size-up herself with the big Apples. Even with US, China, Indonesia, India or even Malaysia. There is a vast differences.
@unitorch SHAME'S ON YOU, the lazy people - Economists say tht there was a steep plunge in foreign investments into M'sia '09. The UNConference on Trade n Dev's World Investment Report 2010 released 29 July shows FDI fell by 80% 2009 from '08!. Foreign investments brought in RM4.4 bi L(S$1.9 bil) last yr, compared to RM23.4 bil in 2008. Investments have been steadily declining n M'sia has been lagging in the region, having lost out to Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam n the Phillipines last yr.
Investments have it "up" and "down". Investment fall this year and it will go up in the future. At the same time Malaysia is “doing well in FDI outflows”,
It is a breakeven reports. You just filter it to show the bad news.
Very similar tactics use by ur local media propaganda.
Did you know Malaysia local spending power is greater than Spore? Go and wash up ur egos and eat ur own shit.
Singapore was the largest investor in Malaysia for the first four months of 2010, with RM1.8 bil? (S$770 mil) worth of manufacturing-related investments, according to the Malaysian Investment Develoment Authority (MIDA).
Incidentally, Singapore was named the biggest investor in Indonesia, locking in US$1.6 billion in sectors like transportation, telecommunications and warehhousing in 2009 according to the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board.
Singapore emerged as the largest foreign investor in Malaysia in the first seven months of? the year, as warmer bilateral ties spurred faster growth, analysts said.
Data from the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority showed that Singapore investments totalled RM2.9 billion (S$1.2 billion) for the January to July period, far exceeding the RM2 billion.
What a big deal here? Malaysia has been the top two trading partners for both Singapore import and export trade.
And that alone translate into multi billions exchange of investments. For what Spore have , Malaysia have it too. Don't get too wash up with ur media propaganda.
EAT YOUR OWN SHIT. Don't behave like a frog living in a small pond.
@unitorch HahaAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! The facts and data are all there for you. You've got no facts at all to prove. N O N E , and you have to resort to calling names!
First world country for what? It is worth nothing to the true blue citizens. Well the Gini report otherwise. Malaysia and Spore have almost the same standard of living. Spore foreigners/executives lives in condos and luxury building while the ordinary Malaysians can afford bungalows and spacious living. Spore is just a first class pigeon hole home pack like sardines.
AWESOME!! ...Singapore's National 'day is on 9 August 2010 !! Aren't we happy AND PROUD being SINGAPOREANS.! The atmosphere is going to be so pulsating on the ground, and ONLY L O Y A L SINGAPOREANS FEEL IT! It's not the celebrations or partying but the mood of being together and showing others that we are one and SINGAPORE CAN COUNT ON US. Overseas Singaporeans, like my brother and his Singapore friends are gonna party too!! Wowee!!

Singapore transformed into a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY with such credibility that the US, China, India, Arab Emirates look to LKY and our govt for views on the region. They likened us to our ppl's hardwork and discipline. Count our blessings that this turned in Singapore's favour. We were practically 'left to die' but Singaporeans survived with our wit and grit.
.. to those green-eyed monsters' negative comments. We know where you're coming from.
Bullshit. Since when Spore were "left to die" or u invent ur own connotation? Spore was then the richest if u compare against all the 14 states of Malaya.
China, US, INDIA look to Spore views? U are only a snot. manage a tiny land while others handle massive population and big economies. So learn to shut up.
IF THEY DIE, U DIE TOO. IF U DIE, THEY DON.T.
Ur experiences is just a dot. First world? Sorry.
U are back to the third world status.1 in 4 of ur population are cheap labor.

U are one hell of a fella who were swayed by the news. Growing numbers of newsmaker reporting are loopsided, profit orientated institutions. I don.t entirely agree with all the news reporting
Remember u say "Spore were left to die". WHERE U GET THAT FROM?

@tristaar It's a dictatorship...and an arrogant one pretending like the big boss of South East Asia. The regime has abused the judiciary system again and again and again and the police is nothing more than legitimized thugs for the PAP. Singapore is a one party state dictatorship. Lee Kuan Yew the despot of SEA LOL.
Spore a first world peanut indeed. But think again...there were more bungalows and terrace house in the third world country than yours.Just take a look at your neighbor.
And most of the owners of condos and terrace house in Spore are owned by foreigners. Most of the local citizens live in the pigeon hole HDB home and loans that wiill take them at least 30yrs to settle.
PAP , I love you for all that you have done for singapore . The PAP have done singapore so proud that we have achieved with best airport, seaport, airliner (SIA) best police force , best equip army in ASIA, voted best judiciary, best education like 1st in olympiad competition, many country copying math teaching method, best medical in the world, so what the fuck do the oppostion still want to achieve ? HUMAN RIGHTS? MY FOOT! Dont just copy blindly from the westerners!!

LKY withdrawn from Federation Malaysia because Malaysia could not give equal rights to other races, they only gave special rights to Malays. Which cause lots of riots, I really appreciate how he develop Singapore.
No thanks for the birthday. The seperation was a stage. Firstly, to create problems with Malaya in order to get independance. Secondly, to lock up hundreds of political activist in jail.
Why? Because he want Singapore all by his own.
Others were denied to prove themselves. Any one of them could have done much better than what it is now.

My thoughts too. He felt that with the separation, Singaporeans who'd pinned all trust in him were left high and dry, and that he''d let us down.
Turns out this was a blessing n disguise...and what a RED DOT Singapore has turned out to be!
MMLee, Singaporeans are behind you all the way.

A thousand doubts and questions must have been raging through MM Lee's mind then...how to survive without a hinterland?.. How to create enough jobs for the population?...What was admirable was that the old guards rallied together and created a miracle in the face of extreme adversity

Oh, I get it.t..those who thumgnailed down and hid Singapore's achievements are anti-govt and anti-Singapore.
Well, the way I see it, we have all got to be responsible for ourselves and can't depend on handouts. Most Singaoreans are aware of the numerous help available, so for anyone plead ignorance is lame.
no free lunch (except for the poor n uneducated) , you've got to work for it yourself. Don't blame others for your own mishaps.
Question is: Did u take ur early education seriously?

As for my friends in Malaysia... lets not argue further. Malaysia and Singapore are really just too close as a pair of brothers. Our culture is the same, our food and our language... even our ties! We are just a mirror of each other, just some minor differences here and there. Lets learn to accept this and live in peace.

Singaporeans owe him a lot for what we have. Lets not be ingrates shall we. All forms of motivation theories state food and shelter as the primary attraction. And with food and shelter secured, the motivation for more and beyond increases. But Lee Kuan Yew has given us what is most important and this we should always be grateful of. No matter what detractors may say, he is truly our Guo Fu.

There is a university in the United Kingdom called the University of Dundee. It's in Scotland. I would very strongly urge Chinese students who're thinking of coming to the UK to undertake undergrad or postgraduate studies to NOT enrol at the University of Dundee. Many Chinese students at this university have been racially abused (either verbally, and in some cases physically.) Some lecturers at this university are very racist towards Chinese students and the city of Dundee is also VERY racist

In mext 25 years(assuming on rate it is moving) Malaysia will be fully developed and rich country and Singapore roles as transit for Malaysia raw materials will diminished.

No matter what detractors may say, he is truly our Guo Fu.

dustyfrappe, we are so proud of you for those words. I'm a Singaporean Chinese, and am also proud of our LKY. Thank God, we Singaporeans are so united together and that we select the govt by merit, competence, intelligence, honesty and integrity and impartiality.
We cannot allow any dumbo to lead us, just because he is of the same race. It will be our downfall.
That's how Singapore is a world class city in only 43 yrs.
