  • D'oh

  • This song was #1 when I was born...!

  • Everyone in Seymour hates him. >.>

  • Please spare a thought for the huge contribution Mick Ronson made to this song.

  • Fuck, I have like 3 years listening to it several times on the radio without knowing the name of it. My english was not very good, now I am able to recognize the lyrics and search for it. =)

  • Oh yeah, life goes on. Long after the thrill of livin is gone. <3

  • This song is an anthem of freedom, of youth, and of growing up for an entire generation. The message that it puts across is just so strong, that it cannot be ignored.

  • "hold on to sixteen as long as you can" love this song.

  • kind sounds like the boss at parts! awesome song

  • Mom: Son your going to fail

Son: Oh yea well life goes on

  • its funny how little views this has yet when it comes on the radio it seems EVERYONE knows the words to his songs

  • Life goes on,, even though the Rangers blew it again.

  • A song so great, he had to replace his band with clapping!

  • John was so cool he is an icon off freedom!

  • look, im 12 and i love this song, so it proves this song roxx

  • this song makes me proud to be a Hoosier. We were raised to love Mellencamp :)

  • Looks like parts of this video was made near Lake Eufulla, OK.

  • I listen to all of those songs with tons of punk chords and heavy metal riffs, and I just think: those songs will never reach the passion and complexity of a classic such as this.

  • Never gets old, even after all these years.

  • I was just in DC and this song came on the radio, then they followed it up with some stupid pop singer, I mean jeez, it's okay if you can't beat this song, but to not even try is just stupid.

  • .....those were the days........ one of the many great John Mellencamp songs that was part of the soundtrack of my youth.... thank you John your music is a blessing.......I held on to 16 as long as I could my man... :)

  • LOVE. THIS. SONG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song reminds me of Las Vegas

  • 45 people dont know what classics are

  • @AlexSheppard13 1 person has no creativity when it comes to YT comments.

  • LITTLE DITTIE BOUT HOMER AND MARGE!

  • 44 people are..........well.... dicks

  • just scored 2 of John's lps at a local vintage store. Scarecrow and American Fool. 2 bucks each. God bless the USA.

  • great song,

  • @accadoza as opposed to Lady Gaga and Britney Spears who are churning out classics album after album... of wait.

  • @Fridgemusa Obviously if you went out of your way to come listen to it.

  • Gotta put this one in the bank of best American songs of all time

  • coolvideo

  • alawys a good song

  • this is a real classy guy so meaning ful love him

  • damn, a song with meaning? something's wrong. i thought song's were supposed to be about sex and drugs. people these days..

  • @alwayzbored94 are you suggesting sex doesnt have meaning?

  • @Daycareable i'm suggesting that in a situation where you're partying and don't really love someone (which is the situation in nearly every modern song) , no, it doesn't have meaning.

  • @Daycareable sex can have no meaning, love on the other hand has a ton of meaning, people have sex like nothing, love on the other hand people dont do that any more,i can have sex for fun,but love thats harder my heart has many walls, and there is one man,and he has my heart all the way and he knows it,and he is the man that if he says jump i would say how high, there is only one other man, that has that say with me,they are so perfect.

  • one of my all time sentimental favorites! my first bf in college was named jack, and my name is, well... I LOVE JCM!!! Haven't heard the rip-offs of this song, and I hope I never do. Oh, yeah, life goes on..... Imma go find my LP and crank up the turntable!

  • @TheamazingLuke Then Kenny Chesney had to rip off the video to "J & D" for the clip to his hit "Young."

  • Jessica Simpson ruined this song a decade ago. What was JCM thinking when he let her sample his song? She urinated all over it.

  • @bucky468

he was thinking MONEY that's what.LOL he probably got paid a great deal to let her use it...

  • @SpinDoctor91 I'm sure he's kicking himself for doing it to regardless of how well BMG paid him. Have you heard JS's song where she used just the music (not lyrics) of "J & D"? It's beyond bad. It's totally unlistenable. It makes your ears bleed when you hear it. It led to today's musical wasteland.

  • @bucky468

yes i actually agree with you.i was just saying money makes people do alot of things.im sure John didn't want to do it im sure.but he probably looked at the money and just went ahead.lol just like when Miley Cyrus remade "Every Rose Has It's Thorns" she butchered a classic.but i haven't heard the Jessica version of this yet,i just read your comment and figured money would probably be the only reason John would let Jessica do this classic.

  • anyone have a link to download this song?

  • @CheaIncx For crying out loud buy his "Best of" or "Anthology" compilations. He's got more than just one good song you know. He's got several of them. The "American Fool" album has at least 4 or 5 songs that charted on pop or AOR radio. Buy the song at iTunes or Amazon (if you don't want to pay $1.29 for the song.)

  • @CheaIncx Try Mp3raid.com :D

They work well and they have this song

  • you guys...it's one of the all time greatest bridges. And ALL the online lyrics to the bridge are wrong. ha! you have to have the LP sleeves on this stuff or be a vocalist. :)

  • I seen this guy at Kansa city he is old now about 55 or 60 I did it know it was but he is cool.

  • I danced to this at my high school prom and you better believe i did the air drum solo in the middle of the dance floor for all to enjoy.

  • This is great! My Dad used to tease me and say John Cougar was the generic Billy Joel...I think John proved himself ! Thanks for all the great songs John. Haha Dad..I told you so.

  • It's amazing how these videos are so old, yet constantly get views and comments... that's really cool!

    Peace :-)

  • 43 people thought it said dis i like :)

  • AMERICA

  • this is what America is about period end of sentence.

  • LOVE U JOHN!

  • To all my leg warmer , acid washed jean, members only jacket wearing 80's babies out there!! This one is for you!

This song takes me back to Ida Rankin!

  • john cougar ruined his career by getting all political and shit.

  • There are 42 people who disliked this song ... How? this is such a classic, even my grandad likes it and he's 70!!!

  • This is really the only song I like by him. I think JCM is too depressing for me. I'm more of a rockabilly guy anyway.

  • @skatepunkzero hurts so good is an alrighty

  • @sonjamarie420 it was alright, from the 80s I prefer Iron Maiden, John Fogerty, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, The Ramones, Stray Cats and Guns N Roses

  • i dont care for the video, but the song is great!

  • I heard this song when I was little but I've always thought this song was a 90s song because it has the 90s vibe. Except for the drum parts in the middle (that is so 80s). Didn't know this was way back early 80s! Nice song.

  • fucking awesome song from era! Hell yeah JCM. Rock on!!!!!!

  • Why do you Americans say "off of"?

  • @grhsvo actually our grammer is specific to the person or group. americans don't say anything inparticular. the different cliques and groups do

  • ..gosh this song is over 20 yrs old and i cant get enough of the punch fist move in the end...LOL

    im geting old

  • Such a classic song: "Oh, yeah Life goes on; long after the thrill of living is gone"

  • this brings me back to my sophomore year in high school..sigh

  • the shady trees aren't shady at 1:03

  • SUCKIN' ON CHILI DOGS, UPSIDE THE TASTE FREEZE.

  • 00000000000 yeah remeber this song nice video

  • Holy crap this was made in 82! Born in 92 remember few songs growin up but how do i even kno about this!? but anyways i still like this for some strange unkown reason maybe because it truely is a great song

  • For Zoe and Tai... Jack and Diane.

  • wow 224 is the best he could ever rock he should sing this way

  • I lived through the 80's and I remember everybody said we were growing up in the dullest most boring decade but when you look back at it the 80's were the best diversity of music of all time but being born in 1969 my early exposure to music in my first 11 years was the 70's which i enjoy even to this day!!! the last five to ten years of music have been terrible foremost the rock music

  • @MrStrongarms agree with the diversity of music in 80's was also born in 69. like the 70 music but not really the 90's think this past ten years has cut the boundaries loose, i finally feel musically comfortable. just a personal opinion

  • Historically i like the 70's better than the 80's

  • I am so sick of being punched in the face by this man.....

  • @harponercam lol watch out for the windup

  • One of the better tracks to come out of the US in the 80's.

  • @eddieafcb That[s not saying a whole lot.

  • class song an evergreen 1 of my all time favourites, young love ahhh memories ,nice one John & thanks,,

  • Best JCM song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • our song forever no matter what J&F

  • "Jack & Diane" was the best song of 1982! It became JM's 1st #1 song in America and the best song to hear at his concerts. Especially, when he just let's the fans sing the song.

  • Because this is america for know and I can say whatever I want if you want to have government tell you what you can and cant do then move to russia or just let obama finish doing it here.

    Fire! The internet is failing!

    No

  • No, he's just the hetrosexual John Mellemcamp. Deal with it.

What are you, in third grade?

  • @54mor1544c man i feel sorry for u living with no taste for good music

  • woah guys, i seriously did not mean to say anything bad about john mellencamp, it was just a joke about how he sounds a lot like springsteen but just isn't as cool or manly. i didn't mean gay as a bad thing. i guess you guys think gay is bad...?

  • simpson made fun of this song but its a good song

  • yes i know this

  • its actually just john mellencamp

  • The recording company asked him to change his name to John Cougar, because mellencamp sounded too ethnic

  • chill out b its da 80s

  • 9185777364

  • best concert ever in my lifetime

  • 80's= amazing, i am the only person anywhere near my age who likes them and i'm 16.

  • haha, i know.

  • completely agree. im 19 and in the same boat. i would have given a lot to have spent my teen years in the 80s....

  • thats odd. why not the 60's or the 90's?

  • because the 80's are the shit :)

  • Don't judge an era by its music. I too am a big fan of 80s music, but I was a teen all through the 80s (graduated HS in 86 (and trust me, it was not all that it was cracked up to be). On the other hand, it was probably better than this past decade.

  • This coming decade will make the last decade look like the roaring 20s!

  • @KingsleyReinhardt again i have to say i was an 80's teen and never gelled with the music or the 90's this is one of the few songs i actually liked . just personal opinion i like the metal now more than i liked music then

  • Believe me it was a great era to be around both in lifestyle and music.

  • right behind ya bro

    I'm 15 hahaha

  • well, good to know that i at least have a handful of people my age who share my views on music haha. so who, in your guys' opinion, was/were the true king(s) of the 80's? i have my personal opinion but i'll wait and see what you guys think first.

  • Prince! For more mainstream rock though you can't go wrong with John Cougar or Tom Petty,,,

  • @bordr4life7 I big man of the 80's music aswell im bout 15, :D (dont comment back, this is my mates yt acc)

  • word.

  • Unfortunately, this is the only concert that I missed and had tickets to...just circumstances beyond my control...

  • Weird Al made a remake of this song for the simpsons not for any other reason it was supposed to be a joke get over it.

  • I am Econ501 Student at Umich and my Prof gives us this link!!!!

    Hello Classmate :)

  • elite silver wizard ur my best friend

almost all our friends like 80's music!!!

    O.o

    im 12

  • "went to taco bell, cuz it saved my soul!" haha.

  • Sorry, but the correct lyrics are "...Let the Bible belt come down and save my soul."

  • he definitely said "cuz", not "and". other than that, i believe you. that's just what i thought it said.

  • the 80's are so awsome im the only kid at my school that likes the 80's

    im 12

  • very nice song.

  • ooh yeah, life goes on

  • wierd al sucks ass

  • wierd als version is better though its a good melody.

  • The original version is always better...

  • Awesome classic song!! Let it rock, let it roll...

  • ... tryin' to do better, Johnny ...

  • GOOD SONG ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The song is not to long, its a good song, it's the hair and the cheese video, the girl is not bad though.

  • lol Pink Floyd has some long songs., not quite 20,30,40 minutes, but 6,7,8,9 etc. And, have you ever heard Lynyrd Skynyrd do "Free Bird" in concert? It lasts about 25 minutes....lol...4 isnt long.

  • @BoboGumdrop Echoes and Shine on You Crazy Diamond ;)

  • Exactly...lol now THOSE are long. :-)

  • Oh god, if you think this song is long, check out the songs I listen to. Have you heard of Progressive Rock? 20, 30, 40 minute songs, and there isn't one song under 4 minutes.

  • I like John's music but what's with the hair!!

  • @storastalandiheimi oh please the hair is so perfect

  • A Great Classic Rock Song that speacks to The Heart
