I understand the silver plating process quite well. Acid is not used. The instruments are degreased in a number of processes and the then goes through an alkalitic bath, then rinsed in distilled water. Then it is copper ''struck'' in copper-cyanide and silver-stuck in a low yield silver-cyanide bath. It is then plated in a full-strength silver cyanide bath. After it is plated the instrument is rinsed, dried and then brightly polished and cleaned again. Thanks for your interest.
@TheHatTuba Oh yeah. That was a much bigger project then this one. I have a JW York 6/4 project that is similar to that one in the works presently. I hope to complete it this summer. It should be a real beauty when the plating is completed.
Yup, the sound is pretty poor. I had not originally planned on posting this stuff on YT but it just worked out that way. The sound at the time did not seem as important (live and learn). Thanks for the kind words and feedback. Much appreciated.
Thanks for doing this series! I enjoyed watching it. One thing I'd suggest is a wireless lavalier microphone that feeds into your camera. It'd really help hear you more clearly, especially when the torch is going!
I am pleased you enjoyed the videos. It was a fun process and a real education learning how to edit the videos using iMovie and posting on YouTube. I will try to do more in the future.
@DCOberloh I think I met itsabundy in a tavern in South Seattle. He was leaning in a corner, ciggie in the side of his mouth and drool dripping off his chin..

Nice video series! Kind of anti-climactic though. I was hoping for a final overview and before and after...

And that is why Mr Oberloh is the best. Dont believe me? Check his restoration of a Holton 345 titled rebirth of a holton 345 or something
