I think him belaboring the pen was a reference to the hipster pda folks who swear by the space pen. I think he was just saying his writes and fits in his pocket and therefore is good enough.
I recently found Gtdagenda and I think it fits perfectly with GTD. It has goals, projects and tasks, contexts, next actions, checklists, schedules and a simple calendar.

Very helpful! One thing I'm curious about - what do you do with the tasks you finish? Do you have another place you dump them when they're checked off or do they disappear into the round file?

For PC's, AbstractSpoon's ToDo List is free and portable. I use it on my USB flash drive and it works very well.

If you finnish something you usually throw it away or put it into file for future reference.
