for what my opinion is worth, i think this aircraft needs to be preserved or restored. due to how little is really left from this part of history i believe you need to hold on to every single item you can, from every side.
I as well enjoyed watching this.My Grandfather piloted a Halifax out of the 429th Bison squadron and donated alot to the static display here in Canada.I am moved by the photos and memoirs he left me when he passed.RAF was a huge part of why we have are freedom today and why we should never forget those men that sacrificed so much for what we have today.Thank you for sharing this video.
My Great Uncle and his fellow crew mates of 77 Squadron ( six Canadians and one Scott) were shot down in their Halifax Bomber, while returning from a Bombing Raid, over DusselDorf Germany. All seven were KIA. Them and so many others like them, paid the Ultimate sacrifice, so we could be free. A Sacrifice that should always be Remembered. The true meaning of the word " Hero". I have a tribute video on my channel, for my Great Uncle and his fellow crew mates, called " the Last flight of....."
The original plan was to restore it... that is why they did the turret and one engine - then they changed their mind. It is perfectly possible to retore aircraft with a lot more damage than that - some of the rebuilds that have been done have been amazing, but the RAF museum has a slightly odd policy. The problem is that the aircraft must be 'original' - and they decided too much metalwork around the cockpit floor would need to be replaced.
well thanks for the comment,it is nice to hear feed back on this aircraft,im. personaly are pleased that it has not been restored as it makes a good exibit,as it is nice to see a diffrent exibit to norm, but in saying that i cant ever remember seing on fly in a air show.
@NoCheeseAndNoSocks An aircraft "restoration" often means building a new one, incorporating a few parts from the original and the new aircraft receiving the old one's identity, something that's currently happening to a Hawker Hurricane that smashed into the ground in 1940!
Perhaps though, when working on the aircraft after it was first recovered, they could have got some people to make plans & take measurements so that they could build a brand new replica. One day, perhaps!
an excellent piece of journalism! really enjoyed watching this and the information given. shame she was too badly damaged. we could do with seeing one returned to the air. same with the lancs, lincolns and blenheims

The indication that the aircraft crashed in a Norwegian fjord is incorrect.
Airplane emergency landing on a lake called Håcklingen near the Swedish border.
The crew went on foot to Medstugan in Sweden, after which they were sent to internment camps in Falun, Sweden.
I wooden barrels four of the men at the museum and they told the whole story for my newspaper, which wrote about the incident.
I remember Dave Perry and Ron Wilson, Ron was gunner at the aircraft.
