Analogue or Digital, these are all just 'tools.' The output is not determined by them but the artist himself/herself, hell, I've seen a portrait being done using tons of rubik's cubes.

Beautiful art. :3 But really? A debate over pencil and paper vs. tablets? Pencil and paper will always be part of my artistic roots, and while I love it, my preferred medium is digital through a tablet. Is it really necessary to debate over which is better? A tablet is just another tool, and instead of paint or charcoal, pixels are just another medium. It is an artist's own skills that decide if it's 'easy' or not. A tool is only as great as the one holding it.

Well, portraiture is my forte - I though. And I just bought a wacom tablet, but waiting for it to arrive. But don't think I will ever be as good as this!! Although quite proud of some of the paintings of my kids and grandkids!

Tablets make it really easy to make art.With a tablet u need less talent to make a drawing

If u think of painters licke:C. Close,L. da Vinci,I. Ajwazowski they never have use a tablet but still their names will never be forgotten

Pencil and paper are the begining, they are the basics

Its maybe stupid to b scared of technology and not use it but its more stupid to think that digital artist are WAY beyond pencil & paper.

There's something missing when I draw using only a tablet, I prefer to do a sketch first and then paint on the scanned image.

absolutely beautiful! i have a tablet but it's so incredibly hard to draw anything realistic, i guess it has everything to do with the program you're using and just plain talent! your drawing is beautiful, keep working :) i'd love to see it colored, because that is where i have the most problems! <3 love it!

Pencils and tablets both have their advantages and disadvantages, it just depends on the person. Its like trying to debate which is better: oil or acrylic? Its just your own personal taste.

technology be amazing as always, pen and paper has something it doesn't. availability no matter what. if you have no electricity you have no power. the greatest artist that will ever be known used handmade materials and created an illusion sans the technological.

I may writing this very comment with my own wacom tablet, but i have a #2 and a a sketchpad right next to it. and it will always be what taught me how to create on the tablet

Any comments about "you should try pencil and paper instead", you're obviously "old school" and you probably just don't know how to use the technology. With a Cintiq, wacom pen tablet, even just a mouse, the potential results and power you have as a digital artist are WAY beyond pencil and paper now, which are severely limited. It's interesting that someone who said something "prodigital" was also flagged as "spam". It just shows how scared people are of technology.

@YellingYaz program isnt really important as long as it has some few basic things, if theres a pencil tool, a tool good for shading, and an eraser, it'll work. Pencil and paper is the worst program in the world but people do some amazing things with it XD. It's all about mastering light to sculpt form.

@Bidon45 Hard work and dedication is better, IMO. Besides, it's the easiest way to do things. People have to practice and train for anything, but most start out with the basic paper and pencil. Switching to technology can be even harder.

This is nice, I found a great Youtube channel for Artrage speed painting.... Jorge Lopez Lorenzana. I am surprised more people are not using this program. I find it very natural and organic.

Using art rage demo I see.. The commercial version is just 25 dollars more and you get layers and the ability to control the texture (or if you are technical, bump mapping) after you've painted.. You also get to do things like capture a part of your picture as a palette to select colors from.

He's definitely using a graphics tablet (what you were referring to as a pen). That would have been impossible with a mouse. You can tell for sure because of the pressure sensitivity.
