Did you know; You can find "Laughing Sally" at the Beach & Board walk in Santa Cruz...The horses that were in the Carousel in Fun Land were found, redone and you(r) kids can ride them at Yerba Buena Carousel, on 4th Street...
I remember Playland. I visited in the late 60's, but by then, it was in a pretty serious state of decline. What I remember most is Laughing Sal and the Funhouse. I lost a ton of pocket change riding inside the spinnning barrell! Good, clean fun. (well, mostly clean, anyway)
As a little girl from the suburbs, Playland at the Beach was really scary. It had tough children, worn crazy buildings, and frightening rides. We loved going there!
I used to go to Playland in the 50's. Laughing Sally used to be over the entrance laughing that crazy laugh that used to creep me out! She now resides below the restaurant at the cliffhouse. She laughs if ya give her money now! It still creeps me out!
Thanks for the visit. I used to love going on the merry-go-round (even as a teenager), and the old wooden slides (you sat on a potato sack) and wooden wheel that swirled you off by gravity in the fun house, were a remainder of another time. I've been in France now since 1965, so was gone when they went their way.

I was fortunate enough to have had a chance to play at Playland before it was torn down in 1972. What a cool and creepy place!
