  • Next time I'm punching the clown, this video will come to mind. So thanks for nothing, CatThatHasNoName!

  • I love birds and clowns.

I like this video a lot with its music.

    Thanks for to share it.

  • Love CPt kangaroo some much talent!

  • Contagious Joy!

  • Next week he ordered a prostate massager... and boy were the Soccer Moms upset when he demonstrated how to use it on live tv in 1977! WHEW!

  • @Lindawatcher

    Now you're just getting silly.

  • @MsPandaRosa Nothing but the facts here mame!

  • @Lindawatcher

I guess I must have missed that episode ^_^

  • @MsPandaRosa Well you missed a CLASSIC for sure! It was almost equal to the time Merv Griffeth had Satan on his show! Truely out of this world!!

  • @Lindawatcher

    Saw that, wasn't really impressed.

  • @MsPandaRosa Wow! You ARE a tough customer to please! I remember that half-way through the rather bland interview, Satan got tired of it all and it was time to "Raise some hell"! He turned the first 5 rows of people into Jello instantly, made hot lava and brimstone flow down the aistles and to the center stage. Merv was visibly upset with him for stealing the show and tried to regain control= = but to no avail. Sounds from the netherworld filled the studio as hell itself open up.

  • @Lindawatcher

Compared to watching Lord Cthulhu rise up the week before and render the audience into complete gibbering idiots before they were devoured by gelatinous shuggoths, that was nothing.

Me, I prefer watching Mr. Dressup make paper flowers.

  • @MsPandaRosa LOL LOL Well yea, if you want to take the safe route in life!

  • @Lindawatcher

It does keep my insurance rates down.

  • @MsPandaRosa So will a good credit score ... unless Satan akes over the minds of the company you are dealing with... then there is NO winning!!

  • @Lindawatcher

    What do you mean "unless"?

  • He opened it up and it was a "pocket-pussy he had ordered! YEA!!!!!!

  • @Lindawatcher

    Well, really!

  • @MsPandaRosa YES! REALLY! Being an ugly clown, he could get no women... soo... this was as good as he could do!

  • @MsPandaRosa YES! and you should have seen the mothers- boy were they mad!!!!

  • It would have been bettter if he open it up and it was a sex toy! Now that would have been educational children's television......

  • so CUTE

  • I was once told that Bob Keishan was this Clown as well. That man had many talents, so why not this one?

  • this music sounds a merry go round

  • I loved the Town Clown!! I was also and still am afraid of clowns... but not THIS one!! My favorite one was when he found a penny and put it in his pocket, but his pocket had a hole in it, and he kept finding the same penny over and over.

  • Our town clown is our Mayor!!!

  • @Lindawatcher

Bet you're from Savannah, or so the local joke goes.

  • Anyone know the piece of music that was being played?

  • Wow, thank you so much for posting this...I had totally forgotten about the Town clown even though I remember watching Captain Kangaroo as a child...we even had a Town Clown ornament on our Christmas Tree and I have such a vivid memory of every night we would turn off the house lights and turn on the tree lights and before we went to bed I had to kiss the Town Clown goodnight, I was probably 3 or 4 years old...so strange the stuff you remember sometimes!

  • There were some great Clown Town bits, that much I remember.

  • DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING

  • You know the truly amazing thing about Captain Kangaroo? There entire cast consisted of just 5 people: Bob Keeshan (Capt. Kangaroo, The Town Clown), Hugh Brannum (Mr. Green Jeans, Mr. Bainter the Painter), Gus Allegretti (Dennis the painter and all the animal puppets), Debbie Weems (Baby Duck) and Jimmy Wall (Mr. Baxter).

    Now, THAT'S talent!!

  • @wsbtam only five people and no doubt they brought joy into at least five million lives - - now there's a model for all of us to follow!

  • He looks so happy bouncing around while playing his ring.

  • Just think, The Town Clown was listening to classical music and the children didn't even know they were getting a music lesson in decent music. I remember The Town Clown now. He never spoke.

  • LOVED this as a kid! What memories this brings back! *smile*

  • Stupid Video... wasting my time..

  • @milkgatasmilk fuck off

  • I was afraid of this f@cker, hahaha.

I DON'T FEAR YOU ANYMORE CLOWN!

  • @MetallicaGoshenGreg

Hey, the Town Clown is one of the Good Guys! I do not know what clown it was that upset you, but our TC worked for Captain Kangaroo, and the Captain never steered us wrong even 40 years later. You can always trust the Captain, and anyone the Captain recommends.

  • did the town clown have a name

  • @zymmyiscool

Don't recall one. He was just known as The Town Clown. Works for me.

  • @zymmyiscool George Bush!

  • Thanks for that info on the song for the town clown drumming!!

  • Dwnlad this in awesome quality now just Search Google 'TheNewsBuzz"

  • Nice one sir

  • I wonder if Keeshan was ever honored or recognized for his work as a mime.

  • OMG! This was a show I watched a lot as a child. This brings back a lot of memories! I feel old now! LOL

  • Bob Keeshan was the Town Clown. He got his TV showbiz start as Clarabell the Clown on Howdy Doody Show. BTW Clarabelle did not talk until the final episode of Howdy and the town clown never did..

  • I had forgotten about the drum skit. The Town Clown was always a favorite part of Captain Kangaroo growing up. This really cheers me up.

  • My favorite Town Clown is when he is playing an oil drum like a real drum and pounds it right into the ground until it is buried and he is then just drumming a pile of dirt....

  • @dagwoodacid

I remember that! Tune was "Workin' in a Coal Mine" and I always think of the Town Clown when it comes on the radio.

  • I loved Captain Kangaroo but I don't remember The Town Clown at all.

  • I remember watching the Town Clown!!! Captain Kangaroo and Sesame Street were my favorite morning shows as a kid!! Thanks for posting this!!! you've brought back great memories! Any full episodes from the 1970's ??

  • The Town Clown freaked me out as a kid...

  • Coulrophobia!!!

  • Yes...this song is titled "The Firebell Polka", and this segment originally aired on the series "Mister Mayor" during the 1964-1965 season.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song used in this?

  • @catlover28

Hey, the Town Clown's one of the good guys!

  • I completely forgot about the town clown until I saw this. I think I remember that he never spoke. Am I right?

  • This makes me smile everytime I watch this.

  • Long before Andy Kaufman did his 'Mighty Mouse' routine... There was the Town Clown. Beautiful! Thanks.

  • that's exactly what i was i was thinking. i'll bet andy was inpired by this bit. he love childrens tv programs.

  • Thank you so much for posting this.....wow, did it take me back!!!

  • This completely made my day. I was born in 1966 and grew up on Captain K-- and have often wished I could revisit his shows that I remember so fondly. This was an incredible treat. Many thanks indeed for sharing it.

  • Wow! Isn;t that bizarre how just the chirping of those birds brings back childhood memories? Probably how I categorized birds.. from his great show.

  • Bob Keeshan was the original Clarabell on Howdy Doody.

  • The Town Clown was always Captain Kangaroo. I understand Bob Keeshan started off in showbiz as a clown.

  • I LOVED The Town Clown!!!!!

  • I am SO sentimental! I was crying with joy when I saw this! Thank you! When I saw him pull the hoop out of the paper, I was thinking, "I think I've seen this!" When he picked up the radio, & carried it to the other barrel, I thought, "OKAY! I now KNOW I've seen this!" Thanks again! Please keep posting those classic moments!

  • The only other kids hosts/performers..who were

able to get kids to apprciate music on their kids tv

    shows..were? Mr.Leonard Bernstein on CBS TV's"Young People's

    Concerts" and Mr.Chubby Jackson.

  • omg i remember all these characters it all just came back to me ...all of it ....(i was an everyday watcher) !!!!

  • This brings back such great memories. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Mr.Keeshan first performed"The Fireball Polka"as

    "Captain Kangaroo"on The CBS Kids TV Special;

"Captain Kangaroo At Carnegie Hall"in November,1962.

  • The make up and the costume of "The Town Clown"

was patterned after Mr.Keeshan's character of"Corney The

    Clown"from"Time For Fun!".

  • Captain Kangaroo was able to cultivate in his audience an appreciation for music. He had a magic for getting kids to love classical, showtunes and folk music without knowing they were learning. He just used simple entertainment to introduce enjoyable music without talking down to kids or making a chore of it. He was a genius.

  • This is SO brilliant! No screeching, no preaching, just pure absolute joy. I wish we could see more of these. LOL Captain!

  • The song is titled "The Firebell Polka".

  • Thanks!

  • When i saw this as a kid,i thiught, wow! That's the neat house ever!

  • One of my favorite Town Clowns! Anybody know what the music is he's clanging along to? I hear it on the radio sometimes and never remember to catch the name. Of course I can't ever hear it without thinking of the TC with his hoop & spoon, and how he's certainly having such a good time playing along!

  • One of the most wonderful moments of my childhood! Thanks for bringing it back.

There was also one where he was trying to take a nap, but could not find the right pillow. Is this available?

  • I remember that one, included one part where he was using a cushion with a train on it, every time he lay his head on it it would blow its whistle--WOOOO-WOOOO. Pretty silly.

  • Does anyone happen to have a "Town Clown" sketch when in he finds a coin while sweeping and repeatedly looses it through a hole in his pocket?

  • Wonderful! Thank you for this clip! Does anyone know what song this is?

  • This is so hilarious! I always thought Town Clown looked like a lot of my grandmother's friends with that hairdo and all that face paint!

  • "The Town Clown'was first seen on

    "Mr.Mayor"Saturday mornings on CBS TV

    in the mid 1960's.

    After "Mr.Mayor'went off the air..the

    character was seen on"Captain Kangaroo".

    Mr.Keeshan played"The Town Clown".
