Outstanding playing and demo! Thank you for hitting a few samples of clean. Most demos go from overdrive to high gain! I'm going to order one soon! Thanks!
Barry, I am interested in getting both the california and the british to use in front of the clean channel of my amp which unfortunately has no effects loop.
Given the always on speaker simulator do you think it's a good plan? Also how do they accept other pedals in front of them? And how do they respond to the volume/tone controls of the guitar?
Am I better off with getting a plexi-pedal for the british sounds?

Does using the pedal through an amp take away from its sound? I was really thinking of getting one because its perfect for the sound I want, but if I can't use it through an amp then I can't really use it.
Sounds pretty close, other than the clipping. Was that due to your levels being too high, or does the pedal clip like that regardless (all the popping spiky noises)?
you said '' No amp. Straight to the computer. Hence the name 'Sans' Amp. Sans means 'without' .....so this kindof padel is not good for us use with amp !? thankyou
@TwitchyThePirate These pedals sound best when you plug them into the return of your effects loop. It bypasses the amplifier's preamp and runs straight to the amp's speakers.
So it is meant to be used without an amp, but there arn't any bad effects if you do? thats what I'm wondering? I would like something that sounds sort of rectifierish.
How do you think these pedal ( california and british) would sound directly into active PA speakers like Mackie srm450 or QSC or JBL . Ive read on reviews that tech21 should be use with flat response speaker ( Full range PA speakers) i was thinking of a active ( powered ) speakers . would these work well ??? im only playing live in my room , im not recording and wont hook it up to my computer .
any idea how good or bad it would be with PA speaekers ??? thx
Great demo dude ! .. finally someone who has a clue how demo a pedal on youtube and can play the guitar .. most of the "demo's" found on youtube are so poorly recorded and played it's a joke !
Thanks for the excellant demo of these pedals!! I just bought this one a couple of months ago for recording my Santana style songs and it is excellant!! Your video sold me!!
I've been watching all your demos of these pedals, they're all amazing. I was just wondering, which pedal would you reccomend for emulating a metal sound? This one seems the best, but I'd like to know your thoughts :)
Most of the chunk is thanks to a good 4x12 with good speakers. I have a hardwire TL-2 and that thing gives enough bass to rattle all the wine glasses. I have the bass at 3 o'clock. If you want more bass, add a MXR 10 band eq after the TL-2. The MXR adds so much headroom it feels like I'm running it in stereo.
It's true that generally good speakers are important, however I believe in this instance he's recording it direct. I've heard some of the Tech 21 Character pedals direct and not direct, and I prefer them direct.
pretty sure that guy stole my beanie... lost one that looks just like it.
DigginTheGraves 6 months ago
for you what tech 21 character series is the best for metal?
COBbassmaster 8 months ago
@COBbassmaster Probably the US Steel, though you can get a good Mesa Rectifier hi-gain sound out of this. All depends on the type of metal.

Is it possible to get perfect clean tones from the California Character Series pedal?
In the video, the cleaner settings you showed always seemed to have a little bit of "grit"...
Can you go even cleaner with this pedal (dialing down the "Drive" knob)?
VeiledByDeath 1 year ago
@VeiledByDeath Dial back the character and the drive and it should take most of the grit out.

Has anyone tried this through an actual amp? Yes, I know it's a SansAmp. But still. I thought it was supposed to be able to do both.

ok demo but show it through tube amp.

This pedal is designed to be used WITHOUT an amp. The whole point of a sansamp pedal is to go directly into the mixer/soundcard.

What's your sound/audio card ? or Pre-amp ? Whats the setup ? Only the pedal and logic ? Sound is amazing if theres another device.
Thanx man i waiting for your answer.

I highly doubt it otherwise no one would fork out the money for a rectifier if you could get the same chunk with simply a pedal..
