Australians are not racist. I am Half English and half Bermudan.I was on holiday there for 2 weeks after I got out of the Royal Marines. It was a great place very diverse foods and people. I'm from Manchester, England and loved it there. Great beer, fine women nice weather, what a great place! Aussies are great but that accent is as bas as many people think of Mancunian accents lol!
Check out an interview with the Director and Co-Writer of this film, Nicole McCuaig. This interview took place on June 24th, 2011. recordings.talkshoe.com/TC-97250/TS-502680.mp3 RWSWJ.
No, she says "My younger brother was only about 16 and he had a rather scary experience walking down George Street one day and one of these negroes must have escaped somehow, and he was running for his life..."
The Australian accent takes a bit of getting used to. :-)
this is back then where every western society were racist to blacks, especially Asian too. Canada back in the past did horrible too. it's good that today society we all races get along though. but racism is still exist in the world.
@Hperman09 Canada also had the same experience with white US racism as Australia had. US troops on Canadian soil lost no time in telling Canadian troops and women how they should treat US Blacks. US Blacks were shocked to discover Canadian men treated them fair and deep concerns over them dancing with or dating white women was from white Americans. White US troops also told others how to treat blacks in Europe. Many fights started because of US racism.
@Hperman09 Small fights, like when a US officer in Europe got his face knocked in after he tried to give a Canadian soldier hell for dancing with a black women who just happened to be Josephine Baker to large fights of 1000 like in New Zealand known as the battle of Manners street that started after Americans tried to prevent New Zealand natives from entering a club and New Zealand soldiers didn’t agree.
@1Dougy85 here the fights weren't small it got to he point where people rioted at the treatment of the black soldiers, people were killed in these riots.
didn't know our polticans where this racist esspicaly prime minister curtin jesus christ he was a leader of the free world but he limited freedom by saying we want whites not blacks in my oppionon if world war 2 didn't happen in the 40s and happened today we would welcome African americans with open arms its kind of funney that its called the white Australia policy i guess the people who made that didn't think about the aborigenals
@Australian123Gamer, with my travels in the us navy.... I really love perth and fremantle over sydney.... Saw no signs of racism but knew how the history went with the aberigainese(hope I spelled it right).... But dont know they didnt welcome us back then, glad things changed.... looking forward to taking my wife to all the places i have been and Australia is my first stop!!!!
its aborigines but good try should come down to Melbourne in summer great place but.............can get extremely hot the Australian people like the African Americans but the Ministers where concerned this would invade their White Australian Policy damm bastards
@Australian123Gamer bro it wasn't just curtin, all the prime ministers of Australia up until the 60s were full advocates of the w.a.p, it's just the society they grew up in and so it was just the way they thought. The people who made the w.a.p. did think about the aboriginals.. they didn't want them to be a part of society. :(
0:57 I had the privilage to talk to a 92 year old American soldier who is white who recalls Brisbane at the time. He was about 25 years old and married at the time, but his soldiers shagged with as many Aussie Sheilas as they could get their dicks into. Can you blame them?
Australia is like any place where indigenous people were untouched by the modern world. As soon as new comers arrived, they died from little things like the common cold, because they had no resistance.
It's only when they started dying they weren't able to live along side each other, and there was no institutionalized genocide of any kind.
The settlers fought back, but to kill an aboriginal without a cause like self defense, got you hanged.
To add, I am not saying they were treated as well as we would like today, but things had moved ahead since the UK colonized America etc. They actually were instructed to befriend the natives, and share food etc.
They didn't accept them as civilized people, that's true. On the other hand they were often attacked like animals, and many tribes were cannibals, so...
The worst blot is Tasmania. They were dying and they brought into a camp, so that they die like good Christians, lovely, huh.
The stolen generation is a term coined for the program that attempted to help aboriginals into mainstream society, which in many ways was successful.
Nowadays, there are many aboriginals using their education to good use, however there is also pain attributed to the fact that the children were taken from their families and placed in foster homes.
The same rules apply to white children in impoverished circumstances. Those are the rules.
This is PRICELESS! I'm a white Aussie, and I %100 agree with Dr MLK Jr, "...that all men will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character..." He IS one of the GREATEST men of the 20th Century. God rest his soul.
This is a great documentary. We colonials saw this racism first hand. I don't think you experienced it in the States. The white Americans were definitely racist when they were away from the States. I was in Vietnam and saw this first hand. There was a lot of anti-black solodiers racism from the white soldiers. When I went to the US, I never saw any racism there. It seems to only come out in overseas situations.
Well, I have a Great Aunt aunty who (apparently), shagged an African-American soldier during WW2. I say -"Half your bloody luck, you lucky b*tch!"! Wish I had the opportunity!!
OMG. Now that I didn't know that Curtain hated the Blacks and yet he was a Labour man. Wonder how he feels now since Mr Rudd said sorry to the Indigenous people? My family arrived here in 1974 (I'm 40) and we were about the last families to come here under the White Australian Policy. I'm an irish catholic from belfast and we too were discrimated because we were simply Catholics. Thats why I sympathize with these Afro American soldiers
well compared to lots and lots of years ago, australians are generally nicer to the indigenous people of australia...i mean at least our police men dont kick the babies heads around anymore...
Damn! If I think to all the sorrow that black people have suffered, and they are still living, such as discrimination, I realise that the coluor of skin is only a way to give pain to diffent people. Of course there are also black horrible people which are criminal, but I'm sure that the most part of them is loyal to the country. God bless US!!!
I don't think you need to worry about the racism in the USA- look at all the horrible racism that goes on there against the aborinal australians. Worry about that first before you worry about anywhere else. I must say I don't get the australain worship of black americans? I guess its because they arent "your blacks" and thats why? just like people here dont mind aborginal Australians because there arent any here. And no I am NOT a racist before you all go shouting and pulling that card.
I can't believe, what this senile old bitch just said,1:04 thank god people like her are dying off.
