its not the same technique as a scanner darkly, first of all they actually employed artists to re-draw over every frame in the movie - as is the commenter radamarinka.
and also this video just looks as if youve opened it as a filmstrip in photoshop and applied the 'cutout' filter.
anyways.... just pointing that out. however. nirvana is my favourite band and i at least enjoyed that.
I am currently rotoscoping by hand over video footage, which is drawing directly on every individual frame independently. This footage was not hand animated, it was manipulated using filters to appear rotoscoped, maybe I'm just old fashioned or doing it the long way, but this is not true animation, just glorified video. Scanner Darkly was hand animated, granted they had advanced software and a team of many.
Arr83uk did you use some sort of automation in Photoshop like actions or something?? Does anyone know the name of the Mac software for rotoscoping or is there a script or something like that to do it?
well if someone can tell me what i can use to rotoscope, id happily do this video again, i used adobe photoshop and did it frame by frame, which is in my books pretty much rotoscoping... but if anyone of you guys knows a prog that will let me do it, let me know cheers for the comments you guys
i hear its a program called rotoshop that they used, a mix of rotoscoping and photoshop, but like you say its not available for us peasants lol, theres a program for the Mac that can do it, but they aint released it for the PC yet... YET
It is called Rotoshop, but I think that the guy who made it is holding out on its release until after his movies stop making money. He's also developed an animation program for the NDS that he also will not be releasing to the general public. I'm also not crazy about how it looks all the time: sometimes they lose important shapes and shading, and it feels too computerized. The animated piece on our channel (animated insomnia) was done with AE and photoshop, 6 & 7 respectively.
This isn't ROTOSCOPING.

since flat black films (a scanner darkly) doesn't share their software, you're on to what's about the only way to do it.

Well, it's definately not as good as 'A Scanner Darkly', but it's a nice try.

i agree, definitely not rot, some crappy borisfx cartooner plug or something.
moshun 4 years ago
i call bullshit on this bro. thats not rotoscoping, its a solarize or paint effect in the editting program.
and if you did waste your time actually colouring this, you could have come to the same result with a mouse click.
sorry not intending to be a hater, it does look nice and i have never seen this foot age before so cheers.
