In the 1800's it was considered proper to refer to it as "Soccer" and this even precedes casually calling it "Football" by almost 18 years. I say casually, because formally it should be "Association Football". "Soccer" comes from English school boys shorting the word "Association" and adding an -er to the end, calling it "Asoccer Football", then "Soccer Football", then just football". Quit blaming us, you started it.
