WOW!! Finally! I remember playing this years ago at an arcade years ago, but nobody believed me! I never remembered the name of it until now! Brings back memories! Thanks for the video!! Now I have proof, Damn it!!! Lol!!
@vintagevideogamegeek - no those games are on actual DVD! You can play on your (ANY) dvd player with you remote. or on the computer with your mouse. it's not the best in the world, but at least you can move your cross hair on the screen before the guys shoot. so you have a moment to react, before the guys shoot at you..
8:13 I remember those ugly pants! They called them Jams. Even back then, I knew they were embarrassing as hell and there was no way I'd be caught wearing them.
Ha! I did, actually. Hell, I just did that to a friend of mine's 3 year old son the other day. Of course, she didn't remember that being the thing to do because she's in her mid-20s.
Great review! I had never heard of this one. I'm sure not seeing the machine in person really takes away from it. Even so, you can get this shipped to your house for $6.00 on eBay so I think I'm gonna take the chance. I mean, hell, it is a piece of history! Anyhow, I really like your reviews and have seen many, now another - I just don't comment much. Even so, fantastic job and keep up the good work!
there's a arcade in houston (called joysticks) it's a bar/arcade opens 1-2 times a month the game room and has old school arcades and they are all for sale and they have this one as well as many other old school arcade games.
@vintagevideogamegeek the bar is always open but the arcade opens the first saturday and last saturday of every month or something like that? I think it's mainly a showroom that sells and rent or repairs arcade games and on those saturdays everything is free to play.
I've never been to that place, but there's 2 other bars in Houston that have a bunch of old school arcades to play: Barcadia and Kung Fu Saloon. Kung Fu has free Skee Ball too.
I have been looking all over for this game because I use to play it as a kid back when there were still arcades everywhere! Damn this the the shit back then, brings back old times! :D
@sirfortiscue Yeah man! Check eBay for it. It usually goes for pretty cheap. You can even play it on your DVD player. I assume it would work on your computer as well.
I remember playing this at the Primmadonna casino in Prim Valley like 15 years ago. It brings back the memories. I wonder if they still have that game there?
The Tragic flaw of these Quicktime games, is the lack of choice. While traditionally Quicktimes have one Correct player response and Many incorrect moves, I have made a prototype game of the opposite. Yes it is true, I have made games that I have animated 4 correct outcomes and 1 bad for EVERY MOVE! Yes it does mean animating EVERY possibility but I say, Why not? I don't know which is the reason they haven't done it yet in Mainstream gaming. Perhaps they just haven't thought of it, or money.
@vintagevideogamegeek That is what my brother thinks. I tell ya, it bothers me when I see Quicktime events in games and you know it would be so much better if instead of a RANDOM button flying up on the screen or a flash, just simply Animate all possibilities looping connecting in a cycle that the player can either figure out with Trial and Error or get kicked out of. I hate those No-room-for-Error Quicktimes, they are more like simon-says and don't carry the Dragon's lair Quicktimes forward.
I hated this game so much as a kid. It took so many of my quarters because even though I couldn't stand it, I just HAD to beat it. Kind of like how the AVGN felt about the Karate Kid NES game. I never did beat the game either which makes me resent it even more
This DVD game could be played on your DVD player using the remote, and included a 3D version you could play with the red and blue glasses. The effect was o.k.(the larger the t.v., the better it was) and looked a little closer to the original "Hologram".(It wasn't a true Hologram, just reflected images). Still isn't as good as the arcade. Some of these are still for sale. The quarters I spent just buying time reversal cubes could have bought one of these games!
hey uploader!!! i think i might know from somewhere! your voice is so familiar! did u make any porn with hot looking girls? if so, hey, teach me ho to be a pimp like you please .........
If there were I don't know of any. There was a conversion kit for Time Traveler that turned it into a fighter, but it wasn't with real people. It was basically like a holographic Street Fighter game.
Camera Obscura my friend!! Very interesting. Surely one of the most incredibly ambituous games ever created - on the surface. Dig deeper though and it all starts smellin of dog dirt though!! Very funny.....that kung fu dude was hilarious!!
Cool find. I didn't even know they made a home version of this! When this came out, my friend's dad worked for a vending company - we went to this vending machine distributer place like every day to play this game for free because it was in their showroom. The employees must have hated us! LOL
Anyhow, it's cool that the whole game seems to be intact in it's original form. Though it looses something without that hologram effect.
Ok, before I start watching the video I feel the need to comment... How the heck did you pull off reviewing Time Traveller?!? That thing's gotta be impossible to film! Plus you never see those machines anymore. I guess I better watch and find out. :D
Very nicely done. I remember seeing one of those arcade machines a long time ago. I was still kid an the whole thing looked really whacked out to me. haha! Great video.
It was not Dyers best work, but, myself having been in the cast, I can say he was very passionate about it.
In my upload of the news report, there is a very quick excerpt of him discussing the project, but it is edited from a half-hour interview.
When I was listening to him being interviewed, he predicted interactive gaming environments replacing games and movies. Games like Sims and Second Life appear to be realizing his vision.
I remember when this showed up in the arcade. It wasn't there long and I think I tried it twice (Didn't make it far at all). The holograms were cool though.
I'm going to have to keep an eye out for this DVD. I don't really want to play it, but as was said, for nostalgic purposed only.
Hey great review. I remember this game growing up and it was amazing for it's time. I never knew that it was released on DVD. I love the Ren & Stimpy reference too.

Awesome look at the game man. I've only seen brief bits of it, and it's really interesting to see more. Got to love the crazy scenario's they set up haha.

Oh, for sure not! I, like you, loved this game when it came out. I actually didn't realize that it was out on DVD. I should try to find a copy! Great work on the video as always!
Well a lot went into making all those sorts of games. Certainly the best of them Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and this one took hours and hours and lots of man power to accomplish.
I never want to take that away from it.
But, it was designed for a very specific kind of experience and I don't think it translates as well as its predecessors to DVD.
But, it was a lot of fun to play in the Arcade, I remember it well.

Thanks for your input! Which character(s) did you play in the game?
Rick was certainly ahead of his time. I watched all the extras and was really impressed with him.
vintagevideogamegeek 2 years ago
@vintagevideogamegeek
I played:
The Blue Karateka (The one that kicks you in this video)
The shorter drug dealer (my line was "Hey man. I need some stuff")
The shorter lunatic
The shorter zombie
The one-armed lightning zombie/tree
The light blue squire who swings at you with a dagger
In the same scene, the 98 lb weakling in boxers.
I used to have all my scenes on youtube, but Digital Leisure filed a DMCA against me for posting them.
qabala 2 years ago
That's so cool that you played all those parts.
What the heck is wrong with Digital Leisure? Are they gonna take issue with this review as well?
vintagevideogamegeek 2 years ago
