Well it looks like the ones who fell were people that were sitting in the lift bucket without any kind of restraint harness on. The people in the ride looked like for better or worse they survived. But there's a reason for safety standards when it comes to manlifts.

Looking at the cranes I think they were attempting to either hold the walkway/cradle still and/or help down the riders, but fils. Maybe the holding wires on the ride failed & just dropped. Does somewhat put you off.

The crane was there to get the people off. The ride was jammed and could not come down. but somehow the ride got free and fell killing one of the guys in the bucket crane. 3 seriously injured.
They had to include tragic music in this didnt they because like a time like this they need that background music.
