@al3no0o0o0od a somewhat simple interpretation though is the past (spanish Tomas searching for fountain of youth) is Izzy's book. When he drinks the sap and turns into the flowers this is Tommy finishing her book, the present (surgeon Tommy trying to cure his wife) is real life, and the future (astronaut space bubble Tom trying to resurrect her) is also real (the tree in the bubble grew from the seed he planted on her grave 500 years ago, he found the key to immortality too late to save her.)

@al3no0o0o0od hahah okay or the future space bubble tom is also part of the book. it really is a personal interpretation kind of movie and whats really important is that its a symbolic thing, its the message and impression it gives you... for how confusing it is when you first watch it, it still manages to get its point across: death is part of life, accept it. death is the road to awe ;-D

My two cents: The past is Izzy's part of the story of the length that Tommy will go too to protect (save) her. The present is their actual fight against death, which Izzy comes to accept. The future is Tommy's part of the story about immortality, fear of death, and need to accept death as a part of life. Why? The movie ends in the present with Tommy saying goodbye to Izzy, which was his acceptance of the need for death. Facts and reality are difficult to see through the veil of love.

i love this movie so much and it makes you think about the eastern religions and the acceptance of death, whether it is what makes you truly live forever, or if it is something just to placate humans...However, this movie tried to do too much, and while it is great and so many ways and so unconventional and beautiful, there are too many inherent flaws for this movie ever to become a bladerunner type movie, although i do wish it could : /

@laura94140 what i think is the past is izzy's vision of tommy trying to cheat death, present is the present and the future is real ,tommy finally found the cure to the disease called death and went on to live for a long time and is afraid to die ,the tree died, in the final moments he realizes that by dying he will live forever with izzy

Or it reminds us that love transcends beyond death. To believe that the visionary minds who wrote and made this movie are but a product of random evolution would be a cruel joke indeed.

I believe there is something going on that Science still does not understand yet. I base this upon my own experiences with the supernatural that I won't share as they are my own personal experience not to be ridiculed by others. That something that is out there I think is captured in this movie beautifully.

@Tutamlik: I don't think that anyone could truely grasp the concept of this movie because it is simply so immense and all encompassing. I've had only tiny glimpses of this during spiritual journeys. We are simply not evolved enough as beings to understand. Death is the road to awe. We must live and die many times to achieve true enlightenment.

tom is a docotor who tries to find a cure against cancer, cause his wife izzy has cancer.

500 years in the back he is hispanic soldier(or something like this) who searches for the tree of eternal life, so he can safe spain.

in 1500 tom is in a sphere moving to the dead star xibalba, where his already dead wife should be reborn all three times are getting combinated in the storyline, i saw the movie and can say its beautiful and sad, my favourite

I love this movie so much. I would agree it is for more intellectual minds. There are some religious/spiritual things that i dont agree with. But is still an absolutely beautiful story of death and life and how we deal with each. The soundtrack was perfect for this movie
