  • So nice to hear these song. My mother used to sing them to me, when I was a child.

  • OMG! Love this man! To watch him play it's as if his fingers float over the keys. But the sound is so beautiful and phrasing so right!

  • Hahaha xD the crowd have no idea which songs he's playing :P some of them were simple songs for kids :D Victor Borge, you're were the man!

  • Beautiful and marvellous

    TRIBUTE TO DENMARK

  • Han gør en dansker glad:) genkendte dog kun "har du penge så kan du få" og "hist hvor vejen slå en bugt" samt "elverhøj"

  • @MuteHelperComments er der ikke også det var en lørdag aften? :)

  • @Esbenbanan og ole lukøje

  • I NEED to know the name of piece at 4:00 to 4:10. Listening to this I found it so powerful I wrote a whole song around it. watch?v=aoO_Vt9WDGc

  • @11NicoMalo11

    Friedrich Kuhlau - Elverhøj

  • My favorite Victor Borge gag is when he solemnly announced that he was going to play the Danish national anthem. He then played two notes on the piano - plink plonk - turned to the audience and said, apologetically: "it's a very small country!" I've been trying to find that clip. Can anybody direct me?

  • Victor Borge was brilliant! I'm really proud to be a Dane in times like these, and his music really touches me, even though I'm young. And he may have moved to America, but I think a part of him always belonged to Denmark. He expresses that by playing these songs so beautifully!

  • "Hist, hvor vejen slår en bugt" by H.C. Andersen is the first one :)

  • How can anyone 'dislike' this...Ahh well, the world is full of wonderous variety! Still can't fathom people who would go to the effort to click 'dislike'...However, glad to see they're out numbered by around 99%...:-)

  • @Wolfie99 young people nowadays... well, I'm one of them, but my dad's about 70 so he introduced this guy to me when I was... 5? Most kids after my generation have forgotten a lot of good things; and that worries me a lot.

  • @Mazzmarach I too was introduced to this guy by my dad too, he's 64 in a month and I thank him deeply for introducing me to this kind of music young because it turned me to playing the piano when I was young, and i've been playing ever since :) not that i'm that old now, only nearly 21 but music like this is timeless and with victor's touch...it is pure beautiful and an honour to listen to. Take care, Adam.

  • The song @ 7:17; which song is that?

  • @MrDiggity1986 it is ,,Drømmebilleder"

  • Go Australia!!

  • He certainly had a wonderful touch when playing :)

  • I met him several times in Denmark - and i loved him - as a person. He even borrowed my digital piano once in a hotel room at the Phoenix Copenhagen Hotel to practice. I still have the digital piano!

  • Amazing....how cool....:-)

  • STOP THAT DAMN COUGHING! There's nothing more annoying then tons of people coughing all the way through these lovely children songs!

  • Even though he is clearly old his music is sooo young.

  • Som dansker udenlands er dette smukt at høre

  • Who needs lyrics when Victor Borge is playing?

    Sublime!

  • one of my favorite mentors...awesome....

  • Beautiful...blow in my mind.

    I love old maestri...

  • Love his comedy, LOVE his serious playing! There is no one like him.

  • Comedy and tenderness. No one could do it better, then or since.

Woe to be human, joy to be light-hearted until the end. Looking into his eyes they still betrayed the spirit of a the inner child he nourished all the way to the end.

We all should be so lucky to be so in tune with life.

    Bravo Boerge.

  • Joker he was and such a grand man. Truly one of a kind. Passion in these tunes he played. Fine fine man :)

  • He was one of the great Danish artists alongside Carl Nielsen, H.C. Andersen, Karen Blixen and others. He makes me very proud, although I must admit his jokes were sometimes awful (-:

  • 7:14-7:52: et udsnit af "Drømmebilleder" af H. C. Lumbye

  • He and will always be THE guiding light of Danish culture, musik, comedy, ellegance, pinache, and true gentlemen showmanship. There will be no other. By the Grace of the Gods we have had his talents and grace before us; the Victor Borge. So proud of a fellow countryman. So proud to be Danish. Med kaerlig hilsen.

  • @QP300 3:58 - 4:15 Også fra Elverhøj, men ikke ouverturen

  • Proud to be Danish c",)

  • Victor Borge really was a genius, both musically and as a comedian. A rare combination and it is such a shame that he is not more revered than he is nowadays.

  • I Miss!

  • What a beautiful rendition of I Danmark er Jeg Født... (In Denmark I Was Born)

  • @kimiwersen Hvor høre du den? (Where do You hear that?)

  • What a genious this man was.....you Danes have every right to be proud of this beautiful human being. He is sorely missed in this world.

He was such a brilliant comedian that the fact that he was also a concert pianist of the highest caliber gets overlooked sometimes. What an amazing touch he has and gorgeous tone he draws from his Bosendorfer. Thanks so much for posting. :)

  • @cobaltsls

    We Are :D

  • Is there a cd of this?

  • wonderful

  • Børge Rosenbaum - der findes ikke en bedre repræsentant for Dannevang end dig.

  • I love Victor Borge so much. His humor, his amazing talent, and his wonderful personality are amazing to behold. I wish I could've met him =)

  • So awesome! I've grown up with almost all of these folksongs and it's a joy to watch what is usually just simple tunes made into several small masterpieces and then put into one single piece. Brilliant!

  • geniaal !

  • Victor Borge makes me proud to be a Dane!

  • "I hope the other two engines are all right; otherwise we may stay up here all night."

  • This is classical material...I love it...

  • Victor Borge....GENIUS

  • That is the most loveable and gentle softspoken piano-language, - i have ever heard!

  • Does anyone know the song at 7:15?

I love that one but have totally forgotten it's name..

  • The name is Dream Pictures. In danish (Drømmebilleder) It is composed by the danish composer Hans Christian Lumbye.

  • the funniest man in the world is he's title and he's DANISH!!!!! Denmark is the coolest country iin the world!!

  • @Quantum1mind

If you don't like it dear, don't watch it ;)

  • Listen "Zugrim" I was not talking about the show. It was funny.I was talking about the snide comment made by rasmusklump2.

  • So loving your country is arrogant now? Would you happen to be American? That would be ironic.

  • Wasn't he more Danish-American since he lived most his life in America? Since his major career was i the US.

  • @MrValhalal no his dream was to do stand up comedy in U.S.A in some big theatre cant remember the name of it... but he was there and every1 loved and his humor and he got sponsored so that is the REASON why he stayed in america

  • I don't think he thought in those terms himself.

  • @MrValhalal no, he loved Denmark all his life he had custom-made a copy of the little mermaid is at his grave in the U.S. while half of the ash is in his family tomb in Copenhagen. Each year he traveled to Denmark and stayed at Hotel D'Angleterre. he bought even planning a manor in Denmark

  • I'm glad that other people who swear at Youtube watch Victor Borge.

  • This Makes my Danish heart proud. This man was so faboulus !! He was too big for Denmark , so fortunately he went to USA to make it big. But these songs remind me about my chilhood. My mother use to sing these tunes for me a lot. But here they are masterful bent together in this lovely medley. This man makes me proud to be Danish.

  • @Dionysosable

My friend, he escaped from Denmark to USA over Russia. His name was Börje Rosenbaum and he was jewish and afraid of the Germans

  • @Dionysosable You also have Lauritz Melchior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Dionysosable | It was due to the Nazi occupation of Denmark that Victor Borge fled Denmark. In one of Victor Borge's last interviews with the Danish newspaper, Berlingske Tiende, Dec. 10, 2000. Mr. Borge was asked if he felt like a refugee? No, not at all, answered Mr. Borge, there wasn't anything to flee from. I fled from nazism, but that's not there any more. Nazism will likely return, as it is so easy to become a NAZI. It doesn't require any skills.

  • @Dionysosable As a native USAnian, I used to watch him when I was a student. I liked his music, and his jokes and sense of humor were HILARIOUS. He will be missed.

  • Being Danish, I should know this, but even though I recognize the beautiful tune 7:14 - 7:50, I simply can'r remember the name of it.

Can anyone help me out, please ??

  • Problem solved, it is a part of H.C. Lumbye's "Drømmebilleder" (Dream-pictures / Traumbilder)

  • Yayyy! Another person who recognises Lumbye. Sadly he really doesn't seem to be played here in the UK.

  • I attended this wonderful concert at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, BC.

In all the years Victor Borge performed, he never once failed to mention something about his beloved homeland; Denmark.

  • he is a beautifull pianist, i wish i had gotten teh cahnce to see him in concert, but i dont think he ever came to montreal

  • somebody needs to transcribe this. What is the tune name at approx 6:07??

  • It's a part of Kuhlau's "Elverhøj". If you search for "olsen banden ser rødt" on youtube, you will find the probably most famous scene in danish film history, in which they play it.

  • Thanks so much for the information. Now to find some piano music

  • he makes you laugh your heart out without cracking malicious or green jokes...the best comedians do that...

  • My Dad's lineage is 500 years in and around Torslev. Mother around 400 years in and around Brovst. Sorry if I have misspelled the places. I love to hear the Danish accent.

  • The Man makes me proud to be a dane. He is a world class humorist. Long may he be remembered.

  • Danish comedian foremost... thereafter brilliant entertainer.

We all miss him, when he's out "of town"

  • Ahem... Care to elaborate that? ;-) Nah, I'm just kidding - we'll see who get's it right on june 6!

  • yeah i was kidding too. hell i'm from Skåne so i'd rather be Danish. got the tickets already so yes we will see who's right soon enough. you're missing half the team though so....

  • He's still the greatest entertainer.

  • Fantastic to hear him play "for real". He has this introvert playing that makes me melt..

  • Da han spillede "den lille ole med paraplyen" -- der er kun et ord for det: SMUKT! Er også glad for "marken er majet".

  • "Marken er mejet" (rigtig stavemåde) -- 6:45 (den lille ole med paraplyen)

  • Or 6:44 too

  • So a beauteousness from 4:31 or from 6:04

  • this man was a pure genius

  • It's amazing to me how he could be so silly and irreverant one moment, and profound or sad the next and joyous the next. It is the rare talent who can bring a tear of laughter to your eyes one minute and a tear of sadness the next and then break the spell with silliness all over again. Love it!.

  • Ahh was nice to hear som very great melodies from the danish song treasure.

  • can anyone name the song that begins aound 3:58?

  • I wish I could.

I've been trying to figure that song out myself.

  • I'm not entirely sure, because it's such a short bit, but it could be "Se nu stiger solen af havets skød"

  • I Agree with Torben, it sounds like a line from "Se nu stiger solen af havets skød"

  • jeg kan huske de sange fra da jeg var lille. :)

  • I'm fairly certain that he had an IQ of 220.

  • One of the best is his appearance at the White House during the Eisenhower administration. Cue it up for raucous laughter.

  • Comment removed

  • hehe i knew em all he played:-) its werry old Danish songs:-)

  • Thank you adamgadk! Whay a wonderful gift from you to us.

  • haha one of the songs goes like this:

    Up in Norway,

    There lived 3 ogers,

    Oger-Dad and Oger-mom

and little ollebolle, Ops! said oger-dad, Ops! said oger-mom,

    but little ollebolle

    dident say a thing!

thats one kindergarten classic, with absolutely no sense ín it! :D

  • Well, that is actually just af gibberish text to the tune of "Marken er mejet", which is a Danish harvest song from the Randers region.

  • yeah I know, but for me, it has always been "Oppe i Norge" that was the "real" one :P

  • when he plays the old danish songs, he looks like he's dreaming way back when he sang them with his mom and dad or something.. :)

  • wow, 8 years to the day is when he dies

R.I.P, there has been no one quite like victor, they dont make em like this anymore

    such a big shame

  • no no one like Børge, his real first name

  • I cried when VB died. I remember as a kid, whenever he came on television, it was an event not to miss. Here, it's so great to see him as an elderly man, yet so dextrous and hitting every note without error. He was a great pianist.

  • very nice play

  • What are the names of the songs?

  • The first one is called "Højt fra træets grønne top" Translation: "High from the tree's green top" ;) It really makes no sense at all xD

  • Wrong, the first one is actually "Hist hvor vejen slår en bugt" :P It means something like "Where the road bends".

  • Lyrics by Hans Christian Andersen

"Jeg er havren" Lyrics by Jeppe Aaklaer.

Actually the lyrics are better than the music - that´s VB's point.

  • SO, so perfect!!

He died at the age of 91 not 90 like MrRobertZ said ;-)

The 23. of December its been 8 years since he died.

  • perfect

  • All piano players amaze me and Victor is one awesome musician. And, of course he makes me laugh for days after I've heard him.

  • After hearing this no one can claim that VB is using comedy to make up for some musical inadequacies. That filled my heart with joy, and I'm not even Danish!

  • lolz. Who said he was using comedy cause he couldn't really play the piano? wow. They've obviously not done their math if you look at any of his performances you can clearly see that he's a gifted Musician. He's simply brilliant, you can tell those people to sod off.

  • you are so right! it takes a brilliant pianist to pull these things off, and he does it flawlessly!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic at a piano, and just a fantastic human. R.I.P Victor Borge

The world got a, little less funnier, when you past away :(.

  • FANTASTIC!

  • He died at 90.

    Far too young.

  • Thanks for posting this!

    He's wonderful!

  • the world needs more people like him

  • Simply perfect!

  • makes me wanna crack open a bottle tuborg and pour a glass of snaps (aquavit)

  • Fills my danish heart with joy:)

  • Han er ret så fantastisk.

  • Brilliant and extremely funny....we've lost a great talent.

  • oh man what a great pianist he was, a comedian too its a shame he died

  • don't forget! he's a great singer too.. he was singing opera~ lol not seriously but still his voice is amazing~!

  • Well Played.

Nice to hear those melodies again.

  • hist hvor vejen slår en bugt

på nørregade der bor en bager....

    var en lørdag aften - a classic:P

    Jeg er havren

    Den lille ole

    Oppe i Norge

    and a few more:)

  • do you know the name of the song at around 5:20-5:30?

  • "jeg er havren jeg har bjælder på"

"i am the oat plant, i wear jingle bells"

  • I think I hear Battle Hymn of the Republic in there. In Danish this song would be called something like General Napoleon or Vagn skal hjem til Danmark, if I'm not mistaken.

  • I love Jeg er havren!

  • Yay! Hist hvor vejen slår en bugt! :D

  • Absolutely graceful. Look at his control over the piano keys, simply amazing for a man of his age. Anyone know the year of this performance and location?

  • It was from 1992, Minneapolis I think.

  • Børge Rosenbaum...du gør én stolt af at være dansk!!

  • My dad was a big fan of this man, so i have seen alot of movies of his shows and that kind of stuff

  • Sorry to say, But Victor Borge died December 2000.

  • I saw him in person way back in the 70's. It's so nice to see that he is still around and performing. He is delightful

  • Well Cebrownf, he isnt. He is dead /:

  • funny

  • Der bor en bager?!?!!??1

  • "she eats a lot" LOOL

  • not only is he a wonderful comedian but a vibrant pianist. Victor Borge is the man!
