The only reason we (the USA) are so interested in "helping" Myanmar is to get in and get our hooks into the country for thier oil.

Myanmar Oil and Gas topped export earnings with $2.16 billion from gas last year....and they've recently discovered some very lucrative offshore oil fields.

Myanmar has held off the rest of the world for long enough.. We aren't going to take it anymore.... .LET US IN!!!! Let's get our own country in order before we invade yet another country.

The Burmese military establishment is paranoid that some foreign influence will enter the country to take them out...that's its excuse for dragging their feet...people are continue to suffer and die mercilessly. Bur International relief organizations are still being told that they need a passport & visa to enter Burma to do their relief work. That is unbelievable...inhuman.

Im kind of amazed that you speak of national debt in a dismissive way. It has major implications. e.g. Britain had to sell its empire to the USA to help get them out of the war. USA financed European reconstruction plus interest. Only last year Britain payed off the debt. Brit troops deployed into Iraq may have helped get out of debt sooner. There are many other examples. Its like the Mafia running a protection racket
