Pit bulls aren't meant to be gaurd dogs. They are too fond of humans. You'll hear stories about pit bulls that were trained to be, but failed because they just wagged their tail and rolled over for the people breaking in.

German shepherd dogs are much better as gaurds, and both are great family dogs.

Here's another example of irresponsible pitbull owners giving the whole breed a bad name. These dogs really good, smart dogs that would rather be nice, play with kids, and protect its owner/property if necessary. But with this training, it will attack anyone or anything and probably end up getting taken away, and put down. Not even the dog's fault. I guess a mean, tough, dog helps makes up for what the scared, insecure owner lacks.
