It's the weirdest thing. The total views on this video had not changed in weeks. Then I searched on name of song and singer. I saw 604,974 in the little inset screen. When I pulled up dasinfogod's "Walk Away" to listen to it had gone back to 596,419. How about that?
In any case, dasinfogod, congratulations on another milestone. 100,000 in four months. I see 1 million coming up very soon. Many thanks again for sharing and posting this jewel!
The singing bus conductor (or driver as some have said)! He would sing to the bus' passengers while he was taking their bus fares (before he was discovered of course). The bus he used to be on was my regular bus when I was brought up (he was on it a few years before I was born otherwise I would have loved to have been on there with him).
It would be hard to pick a favourite song of his, but I think for me this must be it.
Taken from us too soon, but I will never forget his lovely voice.
@BlueEyedMeerkat Indeed . I still think of a woman I met briefly 30 years ago .Not a single day goes by that I don't have her in my head ..she's a living part of me that will only die when I do
@Recordbhoy That's so sad ..and I can imagine Matt's song here is all the more poignant ..Nothing hurts like love ..it can tear a 6ft man apart and crush him..why are we made this way ?
Voices like this is why I'm not ashamed to love this sort of music, would be embarrassing for some 18 year olds in this day and age. back then they could really sing! Not many performers are good live or "live"
Such beutiful memories when I hear this wonderful voice, my heart aches when i hear this song. SO sad he passed away so young like the other great voice Nat King Cole
Jimmy Saville, that indroduces this, has sadly died yesterday at 84. In Britain he was quite a character. Started his working life digging coal underground in Yorkshire, but got seriously injured by a stone fall or something, and had to do other things in life.
@truro007 You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but you probably wouldn't be all that shocked to know that others feel the same about Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Frankie Laine, and others.

Why on earth did Matt sing this song? "Why build a dream that cannot come true?"
The lyrics are so sad and...full of realism which's...I think, not like Matt Monro or any singers from the romantic 60's, but rather like the lyrics from modern pops, I'm sorry to say. The lyrics here are so far from the image of 60's I drew in mind, and furthermore, also sounds like the words from Korean parents cutting their own children's wings of pure imagination. ;_;
I love this music,,,i am only 18 years old when i started to sung this song,,being young filipino,,i love the old music,,which all of my friends laugh at me when i sing this song,,this is the best ever,,

im 30 by now.. i do remember when I was a kid my dad usually each Sunday play on that single and other old nostalgic ones. By that time I knew it by heart and singing it b4 the mirror (making the dog howled), holding a stuffed sock mimicking the mic :))
Son canciones tan románticas , nos enamoran , emocionan , nos hacen soñar , amar y siempre perdurarán en el tiempo . Matt Monro una de las mejores voces del mundo .
Saw & met Matt Munro in the 60's at Ceaser's Palace in Luton Beds, my sister used to look after the Stars needs so i got to meet many stars from England and the USA,,..
How lucky i was, i was only in my early teens but did not realise how big some would become,,.
Matt M, IZ and Teresa Teng the most beautiful voices to ever sing a song. Check out IZ (English and Hawaiian) and Teresa (English, Chinese, Japanese) on YouTube...you won't regret it, even if you don't understand the words.
i love Matt and love that song: a good version was also made by Brenda Lee if memory serves me correctlly............is Matt around to enjoy these praises?
I wonder if anyone here knows that this was not the original singer of the song. The original song, titles 'Warum, Nur Warum?' is in German and sung by Udo Jürgens. Both Matt Monro and Udo Jürgens competed at the 1964 Eurovision Song Contest (this is how matt monro knows this song). I think both are just equally great.
@eus478 It was, and he (Udo) sang it for a Eurovision song contest where Matt represented the UK. He heard this song, like it and asked lyricist Don Black to write English words. That's how "Walk Away" came to be
It is a beautiful song so perfect and love the video...it has a beautiful fragrance of real love ..a message from heart to heart...that has blossomed so flawlessly with dignity...

@sarahbisme1 Indeed, your mum's information is accurate. For more information about Mr. Monro, check out the six part documentary I posted called "The Man With the Golden Voice".
It is indeed true that Matt was a bus driver. My dad worked with him on the buses and they used to sing in the pubs together. A story my dad always told was that Matt borrowed a couple of quid off my dad and never paid him back!! My dad's voice was fantastic too.
@sarahbisme1 yes he was! my mam & dad love him too, imagine having a singing bus driver now lol? can't imagine half of them giving us a smile let alone a song!!!! xxx
@glenn1340 thanks for that glen it makes it more 'nomal' and 'humble' if t hat makes sense and glad my mum wasnt wrong lol she not known for her love of music in general lol
Hi there Paul, I found that interview with Scott Walker, very interesting, thanks. Wow, he has certainly changed over the last 45 years, but I guess we all have LOL !!!! While on his site I also watched him perform some of his old hits along with John Walker. Great to see these guys again after all this time. Thanks Paul, keep up with listening to these fabulous singers from yesteryear, their music will never fade away !!!! Cheers.
@paulthepill You are right paulthepill, I saw Scott Walker live on stage many years ago in NZ, great performance, (Walker Brothers show) but soon after having a few hits here in NZ, he just dissappeared from the spotlight & we never heard from him again. With a voice like he had I thought he would be around for some time, glad to hear from someone who appreciates good music & great talent, cheers.
@tinnsell thanks for your reply, if you are interested there is a 10 min. interview with scott on youtube which explains what happened. regards, paul.
voice so cool, so smooth. I heard his songs before but I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now. I guess I wasn't listening! I play his songs again and again and whenever I can.
Totally agree with you guys. I never let go a day when I don't play this song a couple of times, even before retiring in the middle of the night. I would listen untill I drop and go to sleep. I dedicate this song to my love Haslinda, she came into my life just like a dream. Then when I woke up she wanted to leave and I refused to let her off my dream till things turned ugly. Finally, she..........( part II...soon )
The original, written and performed by Udo Jurgens -who was consequently awarded the Eurovision award in 1966 -is still the best (if you don't mind the original German lyrics).

It is indeed true that Matt was a bus driver. My dad worked with him on the buses and they used to sing in the pubs together. A story my dad always told was that Matt borrowed a couple of quid off my dad and never paid him back!! My dad's voice was fantastic too.

Cheers.

@tinnsell how about scott walker, another great baritone ?

@paulthepill You are right paulthepill, I saw Scott Walker live on stage many years ago in NZ, great performance, (Walker Brothers show) but soon after having a few hits here in NZ, he just dissappeared from the spotlight & we never heard from him again. With a voice like he had I thought he would be around for some time, glad to hear from someone who appreciates good music & great talent, cheers.

voice so cool, so smooth.

That forest-green colour for a top became all the rage then, I know, my dear mother had one in that colour then.

A pesar de ser británico, Matt Monro ha gustado bastante en mi ciudad La Paz, Bolivia. Saludos desde las alturas.

The Cockney Sinatra was one of the best pop singers ever, and this 1964 release his biggest hit.

One of the Golden voice of his era, besides Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams

The original, written and performed by Udo Jurgens -who was consequently awarded the Eurovision award in 1966 -is still the best (if you don't mind the original German lyrics).
